    Limitless adventures ahead.

Skinny rims are great for the disciplined roadie, but when your riding privileges a sense of adventure, it's hard to limit yourself to pristine pavement. The Mavic Aksium Allroad Clincher Disc Wheelset is for those of us who prefer keeping the options open to explore beyond the beaten path and dive down the side roads, regardless of what they're paved with—or if they're paved at all. The wide rims that are ready to take on lofty tires up to 62mm, so the Aksium Allroad Wheelset can run low tire pressure that takes away the sting on chattery, barely-graded gravel, dirt fire roads, and whatever else you encounter on multi-surface rides.

The Aksium Allroad is crafted from Mavic's proprietary S6000 aluminum, which boasts more strength than other go-to alloys like 6065, helping you stay solid on the ride regardless of where it may take you. The rugged alloy hoops are laced up with straight-pull spokes that offer more strength for better tensioning than J-bend options to keep your wheel feeling stiff and supportive when the road ahead is anything but. Optimizing weight and stiffness, Mavic's engineers opt for 24 both front and rear, dialing in the brake torque distribution with a disc-friendly lacing pattern.

The rear rim centers around Mavic's new Instant Drive 360 QRM Auto hub, which represents a drastic departure from tradition. The engagement mechanism replaces the usual pawl system with the dual-ratcheting rings formally found only on designer hubs anchoring custom hand-builts. The design involves two rings that press together laterally. One face of the ring's teeth are sloped, so they ramp off of each other while freewheeling; the other face isn't, so the rings engage with pedal input. The design cuts the engagement angle down to just nine-degrees, a number we might expect to see on a mountain bike hub, and are pleasantly surprised to find on this gravel ride.

    • Adventures await down any road with these resilient hoops
    • Generous internal width lets you float on up to 62mm tires
    • Instant Drive 360 hub provides 9-degree engagement
    • Alloy construction is strong and resilient on- or off-road
    • Straight pull spokes boost strength for better tensioning
    • Rim profile and lacing pattern optimized for disc braking
    • Thru-axles increase drive stiffness and brake responsiveness

    Solid wheel, poor freehub design

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

This is a gravel bike wheel, it should be designed to take short bursts of high wattage from steep hills and going over rough terrain. I use these on a commuter bike and have put less than 1500 miles on it, mostly urban cycling. I stripped out one of the cogs and now it just spins in place because the freehub body is aluminum and can frustratingly only be replaced by another aluminum freehub body. Since I don't want to replace my freehub body every year, I'll be replacing the rear wheel.

The wheels have a 2 year warranty from Mavic. Did you send them back for warranty claim? Also, Competitive Cyclist says that if I have a problem with the freehub, that I can contact them and they will take care of me. Did you try this? What was the result?

    Unanswered Question

I purchased a used set of these, so am unsure of model year if it makes a difference. FWIW the wheels look exactly as pictured above, including rim tape markings. My question is, can I convert rear hub to QR? If it helps, SN of rear wheel is CR73460166. If so, what converter kit do I need?

Can you convert the front wheel to 15x100? Can you get an XD driver for the rear? Thanks...

You can absolutely convert these to 15x100. Under item number MAV00J2, you'll find several different end cap adapters. The correct variant for these particular wheels is 'Front, Road, 15mm (Aksium Allroad & Ksyrium 6 Bolt/CL).

The correct XD driver can be found under item number MAV00I1.
