Alpinist Jacket

Up in the alpine hiding from bad weather isn't an option—you need to be prepared to face it head on, which is when the Marmot Alpinist Women's Jacket comes in handy. It's the burliest hard shell in Marmot's line, designed to stand up the serious rain, wind, sleet and snow that pounds you when there's nowhere else to go. The nylon fabric is laminated to a three-layer (i.e. extra rugged) waterproof and breathable Gore-Tex Pro membrane, all the seams are fully taped, and each and every zipper is water-resistant to keep you dry when you're spending long, exposed hours in weather that makes most people curl up under the bed and tell themselves the monsters are all in their imagination.

Marmot cut the Alpinist slightly roomier than the athletic-fitting Speed Light to accommodate fleecy or downy layers, making it a more versatile cold-weather shell and included a DriClime-lined chin guard to keep your face cozy. A helmet-compatible laminate-brimmed Gale Force hood with an easy ERG adjustment system keeps the weather from sneaking in around your face, and underarm zips help you vent heat when the sun sticks its head out from behind the storm clouds. The Alpinist has pack-compatible hand pockets, too, along with Marmot's Angel-Wing ergonomic movement that makes for awesome climbing, hiking, skiing, and backpacking, no matter the weather.

Odd fit

Medium and Large

Got this jacket for my wife. She usually wears a medium, but some cuts require a large, so I ordered both planning on returning one. The medium was very snug around her hips, but fine everywhere else. The large fit her hips, but would have fit someone with arms 6 inches longer and very large chest. The cut is just weird and neither jacket fit well enough to keep. The construction seemed excellent. Wish we could have kept one... Runs small in the lower half of the jacket, but very roomy in shoulders and chest, and sleeves are long. if you're slender and on the lanky side, this jacket will likely fit fine. If you're curvy, keep looking.

Something odd about the fit

Would have loved to keep this jacket - great quality BUT the cut is odd - I understand the extra room up top for layers but it iseemed very snug in the hips. It would not fit over my ski pants with a base layer. I am not a big person but I do have hips :) I also tend to wear layers so that could be at issue. I would say to give it a try as these are usually true to size.

I have been all the hunt all winter for a new shell and finally found the prefect one! I love all the pockets including the ski pass pocket on the arm. I have yet to put this through the ringer as ski season ended right before i found this jacket but i did some initial testing of it and i'm very impressed. The fabric is slightly crinkly as most shells are but still relatively quite. Fits perfectly with my insulation jacket and my Marmot Sirona Hooded Fleece Jacket under.

I was really excited to get this jacket but so disappointed when it came. I typically wear a medium in jackets, I am 5'5" and very busty but have a pretty small frame. I have challenges with jackets, shirts, ect fitting snuggly in the chest area. This jacket fit great in that area and the torso but the sleeves and shoulders were huge. The sleeves were extremely long and shoulders very big and boxy. The width of the sleeves were really large as well. Overall the jacket seems like very good quality, excellent pockets, and great helmet compatible hood but the sizing was way off. I even had 2 friends (who dont have the busty problem) try it on and they felt the same way. Unfortuanately i had to send it back. Backcountry has an easy return policy and is already processing my return. I ended up going with a Mammut jacket and I love it.

great coat, bad fit

Familiarity:

Fit:

this coat had everything i was looking for in a hardshell down to the color, and the men's version had great reviews, but the fit on the womens coat is made for a man; big shoulders, small waist. Even though I wanted to keep sine it had all the features I liked, I had to return since the fit is useless. I cant get another layer on, let alone barely zip up the coat, and hiking would be very uncomfortable. Sorry marmot, next time have a girl design girls clothing
