Better than other base layers

Best purchase I’ve made in awhile. Great for cold days. My only suggestion for improvement for the next version is to make the front like underwear for ease of relief.

Extra warmth, right where you need it!

These tights are the answer for cold weather Ski Patrol Shifts! My current bibs are great, but when the temperature dips below zero, there are two areas that need a little extra, and that is exactly where these tights make up that difference!

Premium quality.

These are really nice quality: I’m tall and a 32 waist. The medium fit me well. These seem to be very warm but not overly warm. They wick well too!

Solid Added Warmth

I’m 5’7” so the waist is a bit high on me and it’s relatively narrow and not very flexible. I’m thin so not a problem. They are warmer than my standard merino 3/4 tights I wear for skiing. First day I used them it was 14 degrees F when we got on the chairlift and the first two chairlifts we sat on slabs of ice. Definitely a good addition to my base layer quiver.

Recommended, but could be warmer.

I got these to go under shell pants as I needed more insulation for really cold days. They aren't quite as warm as I'd hoped for, and I could use 2 more inches over the calf. Compared to several previous pairs of insulated ski pants, these plus the shell pant felt colder, especially when compressed like sitting on a cold chairlift. However they are very well made, fit well & slide well over a pair of Hot Chillys boot tops (which are longer), and deliver targeted added insulation. The tag says "credit card pocket", but it eludes me. I'm also not sure who's going to want to drop their ski pants to fish around in their long underwear when paying the tab, but that's me. Tomorrow starts out at -20F wind chill, so I'm going up to the full weight Capelene under these. For context I'm a 100 day a year skier in Vermont

3/4 insulated layer

Awesome product, fits well and still haven’t tested it on the mountain, but expect the best performance as with any Marmot products!

Just right

My ski pants arent enough during thise really old days on the mountain. Using these over a pair of the lightweight baselayer pants provides enough warmth without too much bulk.

Variant Boot Top Tight

I teach skiing at Crested Butte, CO. When you’re outside for hours at a time on the mountain layering is a way of life. The Variant Boot Top Tight is absolutely the best layering piece I’ve ever purchased. It excelled all my expectations. I plan to buy another one.

Focused warmth and good mobility.

This is a really smart piece to add critical warmth in areas where you need it. I’ve used it for resort skiing and ski touring in 30+ degree weather and very good results. Be sure to wear knee high socks to cover the skin below these knickers. Lower sucks result in a bit of a draft between skin and outer shell. I really like the efficiency of the non stretch insulation in conjunction with elastic tights. They are well made.
