    What breeze?

Wind can ruffle your feathers, but it won't blow you into a tizzy when you're wearing the Marmot Women's ROM Softshell Jacket. Marmot made the soft and stretchy shell from a combination of Gore-Tex's WindStopper shell material and Marmot's M2 softshell to stop a stiff breeze in its tracks, so you'll stay comfortable whether you're bouldering, hiking, or walking across campus on an impossibly beautiful but breezy and brisk spring day. The hood offers a hit of coif protection from either the wind or gentle drizzle, so you can stay looking fly even when you're braving squally spring days.

Reaching high above you for a hold or turning cartwheels across the quad is effortless due to the built-in stretch and articulation of the ROM's Angel-Wing Movement. Zippered hand, chest, and internal pockets won't let your gear come tumbling out when you get upside down, and the hook-and-loop cuffs and elastic drawcord hem make sure drafts stay at arm's length when you're on the trail, wrestling pebbles, or heading across campus to an end-of-semester shindig.

    Everything I wanted

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: medium
    • Height: 5'11"
    • Weight: 145lbs

I purchased this jacket for X-country skiing. I wore it with just a wool base layer and it was perfect. It was 30 degrees and snowed for the entire time I was out (3 hours) and I was not wet at all inside. The hood was great to pop on to keep the snow off my hat. I was dry and not overly warm. That said, It is not insulated, so not warm if you are not moving. In that case you would need more layers, but still a great water resistant shell.

    Thin jacket, runs small

    • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
    • Fit: Runs small

I wanted a lightweight jacket that would provide some waterproof/windproof protection and a little bit of insulation over base layers while out and about in the frigid Rockies. It is way too thin for that (unless you are doing something very active, in which case it would be great). It is the thickness of a stretchy raincoat. Really, no thicker than a t-shirt. If that is what you are after, then it is probably a great jacket. I did not test the water/windproof nature of the fabric; I put it right back in the box, because the jacket was too small, especially over any kind of base layer.

I am 5'6", 180lbs, and I ordered a L, but I am not even sure that an XL would work for me in the way that I would want to wear this jacket. I am a woman with wide shoulders, though, so that always impacts fit for me.

    Comfortable and Great Fit

    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Small
    • Height: 5'4"
    • Weight: 120lbs

This jacket was a gift for my girlfriend who says:
"This is the perfect softshell. The women's specific fit is great, and it works well as a layer. It is a good mid-weight for a softshell and I am loving it so far"

    Purchased for XC Skiing...Perfect!

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size

I used this jacket for cross country skiing this winter. I tried on both a small and a medium. If you plan to use for skiing (wearing base layer + medium weight fleece), I recommend sizing up. For general wear, it seems true to size. This jacket performed well. I wasn't too cold or too hot while skiing, and the hood fits well over a knit hat for those snowy outings.
