    Lifetime warranty!? Excellent!

I was at Backcountry looking for something else, and noticed the Marmot rainpants I'd bought awhile ago (Oct 2018). The first picture was from Jan 2019, after realizing my crotch was soaked after a short bike ride to the store. If I can add a second photo, you'll see that the inner waterproof layer has disintegrated, not only in the crotch, but on the butt and along the legs too. They've been my daily winter outer layer, and it's not an exaggeration to say I've put them on close to 200 times. They're pretty useless as far as raingear now, and I really hate the thought of paying $250 (wild-ass guess) for a pair of rain pants that will hold up for years. I'd be delighted if Marmot said, "Oh, we had one batch that all just fell apart, and you happen to have bought one of them. Sorry, here's a replacement". Just sent a note to warranty@backcountry.com, and will follow up here with their response.

    Good enough for cool days.

    Familiarity:I've used it several times

These pants are fine for rainy conditions when it is not hot outside. They are not Goretex so don't expect them to breath well. I use them on backpacking trips when I need a rain protection and hopefully the weather is not hot or I will bake in them.

    Perfect, If They Fit

As others have mentioned, these bibs will only fit a small percentage of people. I’m 5’-11”, 165lbs, and the medium bibs just happen to fit me. I have a narrow waist (28), and the pants are almost too tight around the butt when crouched. However, the fit is great for me - I use the pants for touring, resort skiing, and ice climbing, and have a full range of motion. The material is bulletproof, and I really appreciate the sleek profile without baggy pockets. The full length zippers are crucial when dumping heat, and the elastic shoulder straps are nice and sturdy when cranking uphill. Try them on first!

    Thanks for your review Justin!

    Good gift, good fit

Familiarity:I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

Gave these as a gift and the feedback was that they fit well and did the job. He uses them in the PNW and paddling around on a kayak and fishing on the sound. Overall good pant for the price.

These worked for the first few times I wore them. Then it started taking on water like a sinking ship. It also does not breath at all. This product completely let me down. I contacted Marmot twice and they never replied back to me. Terrible company.

These are lightweight, pack small, and keep your dry. Yes, they're baggy, but that's necessary to slip these on when needed over your other clothes to keep your dry.

We just relocated to the Pacific North West last year and I wanted to find some light weight rain pants. These fit the bill perfectly and would buy again.

    Battletested

I used these going up the Olympic Coast in December about a year and a half ago. It rained most of the time during a 5 day period and I was able to stay dry from the rain with the exception of normal sweating from hiking. Cheap and reliable and you should be able to control sweat by eliminating layers. I'm using these again in Iceland next week!

These pants are perfect for the hiker/backpacker, commuter, outdoor worker, etc... A bombproof shell to ward off any precipitation you might encounter in the outdoors. The precip material (same as they use in their jacket) also breathes super well, so these are excellent if you are doing something active. They are lightweight and pack down nicely so you can stash them in your pack, pannier, car and are never caught with a dreaded case of wet pants! Living in Oregon, we know rain gear. These will quickly become one of your favorite pieces of gear and at under $100 these are a steal.

That's funny. I just saw your comment after writing mine. I lived in WA for a few years and used these 50 miles up the Olympic coast in December....rained practically the whole time --__-- But hey, these helped a ton!

I'm around you're height/weight, what size did you get?

I recently purchased these pants, and immediately had a chance to use them during a rainy Wilderness First Aid Course. I was lying on the ground, covered in leaves, sliding down hills...all in the rain. My legs never once got wet, and the pants stayed comfortable the whole time. I would have been soaked without them, and they pack down in a pocket, so they'll be great to take backpacking.

    Raincouver

Bought this for my son-in-law who bikes to work a lot in the rain. He said it was lightweight, true to size, blocked out the rain, and the only downfall was that it was slightly all around baggy.

    Size Boughtsm reg sm short

although i didn't get to use these, Im glad I had them, I wish I had gotten to use them. Quality looks good and the small reg fit me great. I have a 30 in inseam and waist. The shorts were a bit too short and i could see water just running into my shoes if it were to rain. The regulars covered the tops of my shoes.

My son took these on a 7 day backpack trip. He said they pack light and came in handy on a rainy day. Great pants

These pants are so easy to bring along on any adventure. I got caught in a few storms throughout the world and these kept me comfortable and dry. They pack down to about the size of a small cup and are super light. I use them for my motorcycle on rainy days as well and they work amazing! I am a size 31 or 32 waist with a 32 inseam and the mediums fit me perfectly. High quality material just like you would expect from Marmot

    Great review George!

PreCip pants along with a light rain jacket basically live in the bottom of my pack for hiking / backpacking in variable / inclement weather. Relatively light, comfortable and quick to throw on over pants, and have worked well on keeping me dry and warm while continuing to hike.

The PreCip pants so far have been working like a charm. Haven't been able to test in a downpour, but they held up nicely in a decent rain. Bought the Large Short and they fit great

I was a little nervous ordering medium/short instead of regular, but when the pants arrived, the length and fit were perfect; fit comfortably over my 31"/30" Levi's jeans. I ordered with a Minimalist jacket, but it unfortunately stopped raining in SF the day before my order arrived, so I put on the pants and jacket and stood under the shower for five minutes to test. Bone dry. Thanks Marmot and Backcountry for yet another win.

I really like it a lot, it's light, blocks water, and the wind very well as advertised. However, it's very thin and tears easily. if you encounter sharp stuff be careful. I already made a hole at the bottom of the pants when I used it for the first time. I would like to patch the hole. I contacted the customer service at Marmot if there is any patch kit or something but no response from them so far

I used an adhesive goretex patch on a jacket- still working after many years

    Great price for these pants

Familiarity:I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
    Fit:True to size

Bought these as a gift, here is what they had to say: These Marmot pants are very light weight and compress really well for backpacking. These waterproof pants zip up 12 inches to allow for ease of removing your boots. I have used these in a down pour and they kept me comfortably dry. Also, these pants are true to size. Buy them.

Xl or xxl? I have a 39-40 inch waist and a 34-36 inseam depending on how things are cut. 6'3" tall. I don't want them tight but I don't want them overly baggy either. Which size would be the best?

Eric, I believe they will be too long for your inseam at 6.3. I have the xl. i m 6.7. the pant cuff just about touch the ground at my heel. my waist is 36. i wear them over other pants when it rains. it is a comfortable fit.. not binding...a bit on the looser side. probably if you are stuck on these pants, you would fit the xl waist... its elasticized and string tightened/loosened.

Are these stowable into any of the pockets?

Hey Brian, While these are very light and can roll up/squish down pretty well, a stowable pocket is not part of the design.

I do see a front pocket, so what gives? wrong picture?

I actually own a pair of these and they do in fact have two front zip pockets as well as the back zip pocket.
