Don't get drenched or let off a stench.

Protect yourself from precipitation while releasing your perspiration in the breathable, waterproof Marmot Women's PreCip Jacket. The PreCip is 43% more breathable than last year and offers solid 10K-rated waterproof protection. Throw on this comfortable shell when heading out on the trail in wet weather, and its microporous NanoPro membrane with microscopic, densely-packed pores and a DWR (durable water repellent) finish will go to work keeping rain drops out while letting perspiration through. The DriClime mesh chin guard prevents moisture buildup from your warm, moist breath and dripping sweat—moving it quickly away from your skin and drying quickly. Fully taped seams ensure rain doesn't sneak through the cracks, and you can batten down against the elements by pulling in the hood, hem, and cuffs. When you start getting steamy huffing up a hill, unzip the underarm vents to let cool air in and pent-up heat escape.

    Perfect for my needs

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: M
    • Height: 5'4"
    • Weight: 135lbs

I didn't get the chance to wear this in a rainstorm but in light warm rain it was perfect. It's nicely lightweight so I wasn't too hot and the extra long pit zips really helped regulate the temperature/moisture levels. The fit has room for layering but doesn't look baggy alone. It fit nicely in my little backpack-purse when I didn't need it, which was super convenient in the indecisive fall weather.

    Great Rain Jacket

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Medium
    • Height: 5'4"
    • Weight: 120lbs

After 4 soggy days hiking a section of the AT in June, I am really pleased with this jacket. The velcro on the hat helped keep the hood out of my face while still providing rain protection. While the jacket gets wet inside due to perspiration, the pit zips and releasing the wrist velcro helped to vent the jacket when the rain ebbed. It dries quickly once the rain stops, too. Very lightweight in my backpack and works well as a windbreaker. Love the longer length in back for backpacking. Mediums usually fit me a bit loosely, and this jacket fit like a medium should. I am 5'4", 120 lbs., and the Medium was perfect.

    My favorite Rain Jacket

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Small
    • Height: 5'5"
    • Weight: 130lbs

I had the precip for so long, from the time I was 12. I definitely didn't take good enough care of it as a teenager, like washing it in waterproofing agents, and it wets out now ten years later. I recently got the chance to demo out a brand new one from this year on a rafting trip. I brought it as a normal rain jacket, and as a protective layer for going through rapids and holy COW did it do the job. Even in the intense heat of the Yampa River it still felt breathable. Obviously not something you can keep on for too long if it's not raining, but why would you need to?
The adjustable wrist straps allow for maximum water proofing. The seems are all sealed so you won't be getting any leaks. It's a flattering fit for a rain jacket as well. it packs down very light so it's easy to take on day trips and shove in your purse.

    Too hot

    • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Medium
    • Height: 5'4"
    • Weight: 150lbs

The waterproof material makes the jacket not very breathable and makes me sweat so much it feels like the jacket is leaking. I returned the item because I was looking for something more light weight and breathable.

    Perfect rain jacket

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Large
    • Height: 5'7"
    • Weight: 160lbs

Exactly what I was looking for. Light weight and waterproof with a hood . I Can layer underneath In cooler weather. Folds up small for travel.

    Perfect for Spring!

Spring in Salt Lake means 50-60 degrees and a combination of rain, snow, and sun, and sometimes all three on the same day. I found the Marmot PreCip to be perfect for this type of weather! As you can see in my photo in the sky on the left it is raining, and on the right it is sunny. I started off my hike in windy overcast weather, which the PreCip protected me from the wind, then it lightly rained/snowed half way through for about 30 minutes which then the PreCip kept me dry, and by the end of my hike the sun was fully out and i was able to pack down the jacket and stuff it in my bag! Lastly, I love how simple this jacket is, making it great for wearing to work and around town while still being technical enough to keep protected on the trail!

    Perfect for Spring!

Would you recommend this jacket for lightweight hiking

I just used this jacket to run R2R2R in the Grand Canyon. It was snowing when we started. The snow turned to rain for most of the day. It kept me dry, yet was still very breathable. Perfect jacket. I highly recommend it.

    Unanswered Question

    Hi Cher,

There is no added insulation in this jacket to help keep warm- but it is a great rain layer! I would recommend you stick with the Summerset softshell jacket you are looking at, and bring extra layers for when it cools down

How true to fit is this? I would normally order a M (5"3' and 135lbs) but I am planning the AT thru hike next year and need mid layers or a fleece to fit underneath it. Would you recommend going up a size or is there enough room for a fleece jacket?

I purchased this jacket a few years ago and still love it but I want to waterproof it again. What product would you recommend using? Would NIKWAX TX. Direct Wash-In work?

    Hey Bry,

That is exactly what I would suggest you use to snap your jacket back to life.

Does this jacket zip from the bottom as well as from the top? Is it lightweight and packable or heavier? Is it roomy enough to layer under? Thanks!

Hey! This is a great option to layer and it does only offer the one way zip option. It's also a VERY lightweight jacket with a great waterproof tech called NanoPro DWR, that really gives you a great waterproof rating and even greater breathability.

    Hope that helps!
