    A wintertime luxury.

The walk from your home to the corner café was a pleasant experience when the leaves were dressed in their full fall colors, but now that that the leaves are buried beneath a foot of snow and frost covers every car windshield along the street, you're going to want to wear the Marmot Women's Montreaux Down Coat to keep that walk enjoyable. The Montreaux's hydrophobic down fill retains insulating properties when you encounter light snow flurries—or spill a bottle of water down the front of the jacket—and a DWR finish repels everything from light precipitation to accidental coffee spills. The hood is equipped with a detachable faux-fur ruff for additional warmth during those brisk winter mornings, while a fleece-lined torso does its part to keep your core warm until you get a hot cup of coffee in your belly.

Warm, cozy, beautiful color, great price

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: XS
    • Height: 5'2"
    • Weight: 118lbs

Bought this after wearing my Marmot long component jacket in the city - and being cold in sub-30 degree weather. This jacket is so toasty warm. I'm relaxed and comfy in arctic temperatures. Perfect. The Midnight blue color is beautiful.
I am a size 0 and typically wear an XS. Was worried about the previous reviews. But XS fit me well with a base layer and a wool or cashmere sweater. You don't need much more.

The only issue for me is that for twice the price - you can get more stylish jackets, but I'm too cheap for that. This is a great functional jacket for long walks in the middle of winter.

    Beautiful Coat

    • Size Bought: Medium and Large
    • Height: 5'4"
    • Weight: 142lbs

I love the quality and design of the coat. The hood is a perfect size which is very different from most coats I have tried and rejected for the reason of a too big hood, Unfortunately I find it will be too warm for my destination and with regret have had to return it,

    Holy Glob this is Warm

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Medium
    • Height: 5'8"
    • Weight: 140lbs

This was a gift for my mom, but I tried it on to test it out and it was so warm! It was perfect fit for her. She is about 5'8 and a M and it wasn't too long or too short. The inside is all fleecy and it has a perfect about of fill down. I kind of just stole my mom jacket, but oh well.

    Size up, then enjoy!

    • Fit: Runs small
    • Size Bought: Large
    • Height: 5'7"
    • Weight: 135lbs

This is a warm and beautiful coat. But please size up! I’m 5’7, small framed, weigh 135 lbs, and am a 32dd. So I ordered a medium, my usual size. In fact I almost ordered a small, which works for a lot of coats of different brands I’ve worn. Well, the medium was too small across the entire abdominal and chest area, which utterly surprised me! I should have read the reviews. So I called Backcountry and their customer service was outstanding. In less than 5 minutes they had a size large ordered for me with a free return label in my inbox. 2 days later the size Large arrived. It fits perfectly, and is cozy and warm.

The coat hits right at my knee. The arms aren’t as fitted as my old Patagonia, but they’re nicely puffy and warm, so I’m happy. And btw, this is duck down, not goose down, though it’s not so clear on the website!

    Super warm jacket

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Medium
    • Height: 5'9"
    • Weight: 140lbs

I live in Minnesota and needed a nice looking, more importantly, warm coat. This jacket is so warm! The length is good, it goes to right above my knees. I do wish the sleeves were a bit longer, I have long arms, but the sleeves are just an inch too short. I am a small in tops but I always get a medium in jackets for the length and for layering. The hood is snug, but I like that I can walk outside with just the hood and my ears are warm. It is currently blizzarding outside and I went for a walk with this jacket. The fur around the hood kept the snow out of my face and I was warm with just a t-shirt on underneath. WIN!

    Great Coat

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: Runs small

I live in rural Iowa and cannot stand cold, so a warm winter coat is a must. It was time to replace a 6+ year old LL Bean parka and this hit all the boxes-knee length, high down fill, fleece lined, etc.
Read the reviews on sizing and ordered both an XS and S. Normally an XS would only be a little big on my petite 5’4” frame, but this time it fits VERY well if not a little snug. The S was better in the shoulders and chest but far too big everywhere else. So it does run small as others have noted.
I’ve worn it once so far on a fairly cold afternoon and was almost too warm. Excited to put it to the test during a winter storm this weekend!
Overall very happy with the purchase, the only reason for the 4 starts is the sizing-there was a pretty substantial difference between the XS and S, more than usual for just the next size up. Otherwise perfect. I’ll update this review if there are any snags, but I don’t expect that to happen!

    Runs small on top

    • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
    • Fit: Runs small
    • Size Bought: xxl
    • Height: 5'6"
    • Weight: 175lbs

This fits too small on top and it's a bit longer than expected. I also don't see this keeping me very warm.

    Runs REALLY small in chest

    • Fit: Runs small

This coat is beautiful, warm, and functional. I ordered both the XS and S to compare sizes. I thought maybe I could wear the XS ( my normal size) despite other reviewers saying it runs small. No way. Even with just a T-shirt underneath, it was so tight across my flat chest (32AA with a small frame.) I don't know many adult women who could wear the XS. The small fit me just a tad big, but that's okay as I can layer under it if I need to. I'm 5'4, 110 pounds with a long torso ,and this coat hits at the knee. I wish it were a tad shorter, but I guess it will just keep more of me warm through Montana winters. I'm always cold, but I'm nice and toasty in this! I have a feeling I'll be wearing this coat for years.

    PERFECT winter jacket!

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Size Bought: M

This jacket is very very warm in cold, windy conditions. It honestly feels like you're wearing a (cute?) sleeping bag. Runs true to size, but if you're in between sizes I'd recommend going up so you can layer or wear sweaters underneath. Also love that the fur comes off the hood.

Previously had the jacket for 8 years, and I finally realized it was time for a new one- this is great quality !

    Marmot More-treaux please

    • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Small
    • Height: 5'6"
    • Weight: 100lbs

I bought this jacket as a gift for my sister who is planning a trip to Norway this coming Decemeber (2018). The width/height is accurate and true to an industry standard. The fur hood lining is quality and doesn't have that standard "gritty" texture. the hood is large enough to wear over hats and the jacket is just above knee length. The interior is lined with a soft polyester and seems like it will hold up well to potential sweat.

    Bring it, winter!

    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Medium
    • Height: 5'6"
    • Weight: 141lbs

Originally purchased a large based on the reviews, but was swimming in it. Exchanged for a medium and found it to be true to size, with enough room to layer underneath. Purchased the Port Royal which is matte IRL and not as shiny as the pictures would indicate. Very warm and cozy!

Very happy with my new coat!

    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Medium
    • Height: 5'3"
    • Weight: 139lbs

I was worried about the size after reading reviews. It fits perfectly! There is also enough room to layer. I wouldn’t say it runs small. I haven’t gotten a chance to use it yet since it’s summer, but I’m impressed with the quality, fit, and feel. Excellent bang for your buck.

    I LOVE this coat!

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: Runs large
    • Size Bought: Large
    • Height: 5'9"
    • Weight: 160lbs

So warm and soft. The warmth is always evenly distributed too. I bought a large based on other reviews that the product runs small because I would normally wear a medium but of course its way too big. Its okay though, I still love the coat.

    Warm and Happy Customer

    • Size Bought: Large
    • Height: 5'8"
    • Weight: 135lbs

I purchased the coat as a late season gift for my wife. She was particularly drawn to the exta length of this model, below the knees, and as recommended in earlier reviews, we purchased a next larger size, a Large which fits fine. Warm and light weight. Marmot and Backcountry are a winning combination.

Ahhhhhh, this coat is my go-to for our winter trips to Telluride Colorado. It is perfect for those chilly 25 degree (or below) days and 0 to -12 degree frigid nights. I love the length, color, & shape. Length keeps my knees and thighs toasty warm. Purchased in the Midnight Navy color to go with jeans and brown boots...but i also really love the 'Royal Red' color! Both are so rich; fabulous colors for winter time. I like to wear it open during the day and zipped up at night. Even zipped up fully it still gives me that hour-glass shape even with a bunch of layers on underneath. Some puffy's can have you lookin like a sack of potatoes....not this one! Plus the hood is a major, MAJOR, benefit for those snowy winter nights. I've flipped it up on many occasions. Love, Love, Love this coat!

    Killer jacket!!

    • Height: 6'0"
    • Weight: 190lbs

the loft stays in all the right places, I got one for my girl and she loves it. keeps her super warm, would definitely recommend to anyone looking for something warm.

I am around 5'5 and weigh around 150. I wear a large in shirts . I have a Aeropostale winter jacket in extra large. I was wondering which size you would recommend?

I am 5'3" and weigh around 160 lbs and somewhat busty and the Large works for me. As people have indicated, the coat is a bit more "fitted" in the chest area. Hope this helps. Good luck!

    Unanswered Question

I am 5'5", about 105 lbs, with (approximately) 32" bust and 25" waist. However, I have pretty broad shoulders and slightly longer arms which have made me size up from an XS to a S in the past. Would a S or an XS in this coat likely fit me better?

    Unanswered Question

I'm 5'3", 125lbs. Which size? I usually wear size S/4-6 clothes. From the size chart it looks like I should be a medium, but several of the reviews have much larger women than me loving the medium. Any suggestions?

Is the fur on the hood real?

Hey Christina! Thanks for the question. We are in the means of getting this item updated with he Faux Fur info. Let me know if you have any more questions, feel free to reach out!lsteelman@backcountry.com

I've read through many reviews on sizing for this jacket. I tried the Montreal on in the medium and it was a bit snug, but large felt too roomy. Not sure how sizing compares on these two jackets what would you recommend for size, I'm 5'7, 145 lbs.

sizing - I tried on a small in the montreal and it fit a little snug, but still fit. Tthe medium felt too big. based on reviewers here, it appears the montreaux runs smaller. i'm 5'10", 135#. what size do you recommend?

Hey Sarah, I've tried both in a Medium and found them pretty similar in fit (minus the Montreaux being significantly longer, obviously)... if you were on the fence with the other jacket, I'd suggest ordering both and returning whichever doesn't fit. I'd be happy to make sure you get a free return label to send back the one you don't want-- feel free to reach out. :)

    Unanswered Question

im 5'7 and about 135 lbs, i ordered a medium but the arms are alittle long and hit me mid palm. should i exchange for the small or stick with the medium?

What temperatures is this coat good for? Is it sufficient for New Englad winters (for someone who is very cold) or do I need Canada Goose? I am new to the area.

How durable is the outer fabric? Can it with stand snow shoeing in the woods and bramble with two Bernese Mountain Dogs?

I'm 5'11" and 140 lbs. with broad shoulders and 38-31-38 What size would you recommend?

Hi Anne, I wouldn't know for sure but I can tell you that for me, it fit true to size. I am 5'3 and under 100 pounds, the extra small fits me great. It is down to my knees due to my small size but it keeps me WARM! If I want to wear a thick sweatshirt underneath, it can get a little tight in the underarm area. The jacket is so warm, I wouldn't dare layer it but if that is something you think you may do then I'd take into consideration the snug fit under the arms

How do I adjust the hood on this coat?

The fur zips right off and the hood itself has hidden velcro attachments. In fact, they are so well hidden and constructed that until I saw your question and looked at my coat, I never noticed the hood can be adjusted. I've had this jacket for 2 years!

At 5'11," 135 lbs, I ordered a size Large to get the longer sleeves. The coat, however, was way too roomy, and it's going back. Love the coat, otherwise. Any one know what the difference is, sleeve-length-wise, between the Medium and the Large?

I am buying this for my boyfriend's mom for Christmas. I'd say she is 5'5" or so. Her bust makes her look larger than she is. I'd call her mid-weight for a typical American 55 year old. My family doesn't have a bust issue so I don't know how to guess size for her. She asked for an XL. I (5'8"/145) have a M in an older style. Do you think that XL will be appropriate for her? It looks like some people say this runs a little small . . . what is exchange policy if I buy now and deal with size after Christmas??
    Thank you, friends!

    (Posting under my husbands acct.)

In my opinion this coat only runs a tad small in the upper shoulders for taller bigger shouldered ppl. I'm 5'7" athletic/slender build 130lbs. I could wear a small but sleeves would be too short. Medium fits me best. XL seems like way too much coat for 5'5"?? This is a long length coat...I'd think the shorter thigh length Montreal would be more appealing to ppl on the shorter side.

    Unanswered Question

Just got this coat for my mom. How do you adjust the hood? How are the elastic cords secured once you pulled them tighter?
Steel gray is a great color. The coat is beautiful and appears to be warm but theres no way of knowing until she wears it in a polar vortex. Ill be sure to write a review once its worn. Til then, just need to solve the mystery hood issue. Thanks Backcountry. Youre the best

I am ordering for my wife. She is 5'8" 135-140, fairly long arms. Probably a 34C bust. Overall slim to athletic build. Trying to decide between a Medium or Large. We live in Colorado. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Posting from my husbands profile 😉....I'm 5'7" (longer arms)130lbs slender build. I wear a medium in this jacket. The Large is too bulky around the middle. The jacket fits really nice but I would prefer another 1/2 inch in the sleeves and a hair more space in the shoulders... I find that's typical w my build.

What size would you choose for a person who is 5' 7 and 190 lbs?

Based on those measurements alone, it would be really difficult to guess your size! Check out our size guide here - others have said that this jacket runs a little small, so if you are right in between sizes or want to layer up underneath, then I'd size up!
