The Montreal is the same coat (it seems) as the Montreaux which I own and love. For this reason, I am returning it. It runs small. So I had to get a large in both styles. In a large the Montreal ( my native city!) is quite long, so seems silly to have to long coats. The fleece in color and upper body is very soft and warm, cuffs are perfect. Wish it had a slightly larger chest so the medium would fit as it does it most brands. I am small in chest size. I tried both medium and large and as in the Montreaux, ended up with the large. Both sizes had a great zipper, no problem. Order larger and enjoy and beautiful warm soft coat!

Large too small for a tall person

I'm a 6'2" female so clothes shopping is forever a challenge. Marmot has been one of the brands that has long enough sleeves, but not this jacket. Both the Montreal and Montreaux have too short sleeves for me (by about 2 inches). The waist is not too high though (doesn't look disproportionate, like an imperial waist). It's not a bad coat, just not tall enough for me. (I own 3 other Marmot jackets in Large and the sleeves long enough) Also, hate the fleece lining, I would be afraid that once I'd get sweaty it would stay wet. Sorry to return.

I wanted to write a review of this coat bc of the fit. It is def a slim fit but that’s what makes it flattering. I tried 3 different coats the north face arctic ll parka, Patagonia down with it parka, and this one, and ended up keeping this one and returning the rest. The other reviews complained about it being small in the shoulders and I thought the shoulders are cut perfectly and I have broad shoulders. I think that is what makes this coat fairly flattering for a puffer. It was the most flattering of all the coats I tried, which is hard when u have a 600-700 fill down coat. The chest is small in this coat. I’m usually a size medium with a DD chest so I’m busty, and I ordered a med and it barely fits me. I kept it tho bc I’m a little heavy right now and am prob pushing it my ordering a Med anyways so I know as soon as I go back to my normal weight it will fit just right. The chest area could def be a little roomier tho. I love the super soft fleece on the inside and inside the pockets. I wish it was all over the inside and not just the top half of the coat but it is so cozy. And this coat is really light weight which is nice, even tho it’s lightweight it is still really warm. My only complaints about this coat are that the chest is so small and the material is really thin. It makes the coat light weight but it seems like it will catch on stuff and snag really easily. I’ve been wearing this coat in Michigan in December for about a month and I really like it but am scared of it ripping.

This would otherwise be a great coat but the zipper broke within two months of normal wear (to work and home- not heavy activity). Marmot was unresponsive to my complaint. Too costly an investment to be brought down by a simple zipper!

I bought this jacket for my Mom for Christmas and she absolutely loves it. The fit is great and she says it is super warm. Great choice for a down coat.

I tried both a Med (usual size) which was perfect except a bit tight in the chest if wanted to wear a sweater. So I tried the large but the sleeves were so long they almost covered my hands. The coat was super light, high quality and really warm so I wanted to love it, but finally decided to return both. Giving it 4 stars because if you're the right body type, you'll probably be happy with it.

Bought this coat in a size L. My north face of similar style is a large and has room to spare. This coat came in a large and I couldn't drive Or sit down because it's to tight. I returned it for an XL and it swims on me and I need another 50 or more pounds to fill it... What now?

It’s a warm coat for cold winters. I was nervous about sizing as other reviews said it runs small, but I find it true to size. I ordered a medium and it fits fine even with layers underneath. It’s on the bulky size but it does the trick for commuting in cold temps.

This year alone, I have purchased five of these coats; three of the Montreal Coats and two of the Montreaux Coats (longer version). I am a 64-year-old teacher who walks and hikes daily in the NH outdoors. It is currently 0 degrees with a wind-chill of -20 below. This is the warmest coat that I have owned. Prior to teaching for 23 years; I was a soft goods buyer and manager for several ski shops in NH and Vail, Co. Thus, I know a quality product when I wear one! I am 5 feet, 100 pounds and the XS fits me perfectly. I bought my daughter a Medium who is 5feet 2 inches with a bust of 36. If you are larger up top you may want to size up. But, otherwise this is a fitted coat; not bulky! I love, love, love these coats!

Love This Coat

I could not be happier with this coat. It is super warm and great quality. This one is one of my very favorite long puffy’s that I tried on. I am 5’5” 115 and usually wear a small and this in a small is perfect. I usually wear TNF and I am very happy I went with this for something new!

Like many other reviews have said, this coat is made very small at the shoulders and bust. It simply is not a coat for women with much shape. Hard to believe--and very disappointing--that a quality company like Marmot makes such a poorly sized coat. Sending it back.

Marmot Montreal Jacket

I bought this jacket and the North Face Metropolis planning on only keeping one of them. I went with the TNF because of the fit, this jacket runs much smaller, so it didn't quite work.

Is this coat really warm enough for around 0°F? It feels too light to be super warm.

Considering the down is 700 fill if you have a great baselayer underneath it will keep your upper body warm at that temp. I would recommend using it around 15-20 at the most!

>Rating:

I am 5.7" and about 125 pounds, any recommended size? I'm not sure if I should take a small or a medium. Thanks!

I think something around a small will work great!

What is the material inside the pockets? Also, does this coat have the wrist protection with thumb holes?

Does this coat have a two way zipper?

It does have a two-way zipper! I don't know if you are still interested considering you asked two years ago but hey, the jacket is still around!

Does anyone think the black looks very chocolate brown?

I have this jacket -The black is definitely black. The fur on the hood tones down the darkness of the jacket in my opinion.

For me, the jacket was VERY chocolate. In fact, you could even compare the lining on the inside, which was black and the coat was chocolate brown. How long ago did you get yours?

Yes, Sarah the black looks like a chocolate brown and sometimes a dark grey in certain lighting. It is a unique color....definitely not black, but I still love it!

My wife is busty and hippy- very hourglass shaped. She's generally a 14 or 16, but these brands are hard. Do you think the XXL would fit her?

FYI - I actually just tried this jacket on today. I'm usually a solid Medium. I do like my clothes a bit on the loose side. So I tried the large on and found it a little constricting in the chest area especially. I'm 5-5 and 135 lbs. I'd say this runs small. I decided not to buy it...

I'm 5'8" and 140-145 lbs. I have pretty broad shoulders (swimmer shoulders) and am debating between a medium and large. What would you suggest?

I am the same height as you and about 5 lbs heavier. I tried both the M and L in a store. The M was very fitted, with only a t shirt on and the shoulders were tight when I put my arms forward. The sleeves were also too short. The L is what I went with and would suggest for you as well.

Thank you for your help!

I ordered the Large around November 17th and found it to be too big for me. I am flat chested and athletic build, so the fit look suited me better. I separately ordered a Medium and will need to return my large jacket soon.

>Rating:

Is it packable?

It doesn't pack down really small like many lightweight down coats do. This is a heavier weight coat, and while it will compress somewhat like any down coat will, it's not going to fit in your pocket or small bag.

>Rating:

does this have a two way zipper?

Yes it does - easier to see that lower zipper in some pictures than others, but definitely there!

>Rating:

DOES IT PACK DOWN SMALL

Not really. It is meant to be worn as a causal coat for work or social outings in really cold temps. Just my opinion from trying to stuff the jacket into a shopping bag I had nearby: The hood is not packable at all because of the fur and the body of the jacket is slightly compressible.

>Rating:

What is the center back length in a medium?

34 inches

>Rating:

Does this jacket have wrist protectors (inserts for your hands) at the end of the sleeves? It is hard to tell from the picture?

If you're talking about the kind that covers your palm and a hole for the thumb, no it doesn't. It just has a fleece cuff (not elasticized) that comes right up to the inside of the down exterior material.

>Rating:

On another site it says that the down leaks all over the back. Has this been a problem for anyone?

I had concern about this too. I called Marmot and they said there were some issues with some of the coats but not all of them. They apparently guarantee and so does Backcountry. I would check with customer service by phone to see how they would handle this. Not sure how Marmot would handle guarantee.

>Rating:

If I normally wear a medium, would a large...

If I normally wear a medium, would a large look too bulky on me? I'm 5'4", 120lbs. I really want this jacket but can't find it anywhere in medium.

I would not suggest getting a large. Based on your size it will be too big, and definitely look bulky.
