No need to bring the lasso.

Setting up a tent shouldn't feel like you're wrangling with an ornery and generously-sized longhorn bull, so keep it simple with the Marmot Limelight 3P Tent. Its color-coded clips and poles make for easy set ups, and the Marmot Zone construction offers more livable space so you can comfortably kick back after a day spent fishing, hiking, or mountain biking. Additionally, Marmot hooked the Limelight up with a mesh canopy for stargazing fiends, while the seam-taped fly repels those frequent summer rainstorms or unexpected dust storms. Not to mention, the added mesh fly vents ensure your little home-on-the-go stays cool during those hot and muggy nights when the bugs are out. And of course, the large D-shaped door makes it a whole lot easier to get out when you need to take a 3am bathroom break.

    • A homey, 3-person tent for 3-season camping
    • Waterproof fly and bathtub floor offer protection
    • No-see-um mesh canopy ensures ample comfort
    • Generous size accommodates friends or dogs
    • One door boasts large size for easy in-and-out
    • Vestibule protects gear from elements
    • Footprint is included

    Best tent I've ever used!!!

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I am absolutely enamored with this tent. I have a slightly different version than what is for sale now (the doors and shape look a bit different, mine looks similar in shape to the current Tungsten but is a Limelight) but the Limelight 3-p is a fantastic tent. Mine has withstood many a rainstorm, wind, cold, and sometimes all 3 at once and awakening to frost the next morning. I have had ZERO leaks with this tent, even under the vestibules tends to stay dry, and it is lightweight, packable, and can be set up by one person.

I've used this backpacking as well as car camping, and the easy set up is one of my favorite aspects. If I ever need to replace this tent (which won't be for a long while based on how it's held up with moderately heavy use over these past two years) I am most definitely going to get the Limelight. For comfort using sleeping pads it's more of a roomy 2 person, but I've also slept 3 in it no problem, it just depends on how snuggly you're willing to get with others :)

The only "problem" with my tent is that it's dark green and very dark inside which is great for trying to sleep but not so great if you're stuck inside due to inclement weather. Though this doesn't seem to be a problem anymore because they have bright orange as the option for color -- just want to be honest about all aspects of this tent. It is phenomenal and I LOVE LOVE LOVE this tent! Have I mentioned I love it yet?

Overall, if you're looking for a backpacking tent with just a bit more room for 2 people than a regular 2-p, the extra weight is worth it for me (though it's not that much extra) and you will stay dry and cozy in this tent! Highly recommend!

    Great tent!

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Loved this tent!! Lots of room for two people plus gear. The only flaw was it did not come with the gear net as the description said. REI would not replace it, even though the description clearly said it was included along with the footprint. Footprint was there, but not the cargo net. Other than that, it's a great tent! Super handy to have the two doors. We used it in the national parks and loved it!

    Great tent for the price

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

After years of car camping, our family has transitioned into back country/backpack camping now that our youngest can comfortably hike and carry his own gear. I spent a great deal of time researching the best product for the least amount of $ that would suit our needs and chose this tent for myself and my husband. We were looking for the lightest tent that would fit the two of us as well as our gear. While we could have squeezed into a 2 person tent, we felt a 3 person would be more comfortable for us (we had used a 2 person tent before and felt it was too small - but that is just our opinion, coming off years of "car camping" in larger tents). This tent felt very spacious for the two of us. My husband it 6'1" and about 200lbs and he felt there was plenty of space for the two of us and our gear at our feet. We were very comfortable in it for several nights. We loved that there are two doors, so each of us can access a door without crawling over each other. The rainfly can be set up (pulled away from the tent) to store gear if that is how you would prefer to store it. This tent includes a "footprint" which saves you ~$30. Coming off car camping, this was new to us as our other tents have a thick, water-proof ("bathtub") floor. In "lightweight" tents, the floor is much thinner (to minimize weight), so a footprint is recommended to extend the life of your tent and make it more water resistant. It also gives you more options (such as to not use the "tent" but use the footprint and rainfly for shelter. At over 6lb, my husband and I divided the tent between the two of us, so we were each only carrying 3+lbs. I didn't mind the extra weight for the added space, but the added space in the tent is translated to a larger tent to carry when it is folded up. It is larger than I hoped when it is folded up but the trade-off was that we had more room and could comfortably sit in the tent (some are really low). Another point of interest is that the corner poles have a slight bend to them, which makes them take up more space in your pack than if they were made straight. I don't care for that design, but it doesn't bother me enough to return the tent. We have not tested it in the rain as we had great weather for our trip.

    Luxury in the wilderness

Excellent tent. A palace for two people and bags, comfortable for 3. Have taken it on six ventures but never had heavy rain, but light rain has never caused any problems. Completely dry on the inside and you can leave your boots under the extensions on both sides.

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times

have been primarily a car camper using a 8 person tent for a while but was looking for something more packable and this works perfectly. large enough for myself and wife and dog. Setup is very easy and tent seems to be very stable in mild winds.

Big enough for three! Love it

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times

This tent can sleep 3 men if you don't mind being close. I am 180 lbs. I shared this tent for 3 rainy nights backpacking with two other guys weighing 200 and 220. We had room to sleep head to foot no problemo. It just takes a little space discipline. Also we didn't have our packs inside the tent, but in the vestibule instead. The tent feels huge inside because of the vertical walls. The wall really do make a big difference in the usable space. Large vestibules. Divided into 3 equal parts, we each carried about 2 lbs, which is pretty good for backpacking. I would buy this tent again today

Not really a 3 person tent.

      • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

We (my wife and I) used this tent for the first time the week of Thanksgiving. The tent was large enough for the both of us, but I can't see three people using this tent unless they are dwarfs or double amputees. The double wall system kept condensation from dripping on us on cold nights, and the separate entrances allowed us to get out of the tent without waking the other. Overall a great two person tent.

      Impressive product from Marmot

      • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

So bought this tent so my boy scout could use instead of cheap loaners from troop.
This thing is amazing, from the poles that almost come together on their own to setting up in less than 3 minutes, I am impressed.
More than enough for two people and packs with room to spare. Love all the little netting "cubby's" that held everything from lights to food to socks!
First night a little windy but the tent was rock solid as we setup all guy lines too.
Love the reflective lines as bio breaks in middle of night in pitch black made it easy to see tent from a distance.
Looking forward to putting this through its paces of rough use over the next year culminating in a 2 week hiking trip in NM.
Only one caveat to this tent, and its a very minor one, but wish it came with another 6 stakes for the guylines.

      Great Tent!

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Ive had a few tents in the past but have been most impressed with marmot. Loved my first limelight, still love it, just wanted something a little bigger so i picked up the 3p. zero complaints with my limelight 2p just wanted something a little bigger. Didnt bother looking at other tents. Easy to set up and break down. holds up great in wind and rain. If i ever wear through these I'll be getting another one

      But it

I obsess over reviews and features built in to products. Having said that, I love this tent! It's one of few that comes with its own footprint and offers a fast pitch option which is something I wanted.

        Great tent!

Bought it for my last camping trip. It worked perfectly. Quite roomy inside. Quite light to carry around. Set up is super easy. Good ventilation. Two of us sleeping in it and it was comfortable. And finally... I love the colour!

          Epic tent!

Great tent! I live in Costa Rica where it rain's pretty heavy and had always kept my girlfriend, dog and me cozy with lot's of space while outside the skies are falling with water.

          Great Tent

          • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

My wife and I bought this tent for a trip to the BWCA and for future camping. We needed something sturdy, waterproof, and bug proof...this was all three. The only bugs that got into the tent came when the door was open. This was amazing since the mosquitoes in Minnesota's lake country are relentless. I'm used to them buzzing in my ear all night long, but we had peaceful sleep all week long, so that in and of itself is AWESOME! As far as the waterproof goes...we got five inches of rain on the last night and we stayed dry all night long. If there was ever a test for staying dry, that would have been it. The tent wasn't tested in the wind, but everything held up nicely. The stakes aren't super tough, they are aluminum to be lighter, so don't drive them into rock, but that's to be expected from a light weight tent. Depending where you're going, you may consider switching out the stakes for a little heavier duty ones. Overall nice job on the tent.

          5 Stars for the Limelight!

          • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

All around solid tent from Marmot!

We purchased this tent for a mixture of car camping and backpacking for 2 people and a dog and it is just the right size! Plenty of room for the extra gear while car camping yet light weight enough to pack it 10 miles into the backcountry!

The bent pole design is great to give you that extra room at sitting level and not have to worry about sharp angled walls chewing up your space. Also a big fan of the light dispersion pockets on the top of the tent. One headlamp in that pocket throws enough light for reading or getting in a game of cards.

The limelight 3 person tent is the perfect tent if you're looking for one tent to do it all!

          Sadly not waterproof

I'll start by saying that sadly this tent is not waterproof. Living in San Diego we rarely see rain, but on our 6th weekend out in this tent we got some heavy rain and were drenched. Fly leaked and the bottom of the tent soaked through to our sleeping pads. Everything was staked out tight and proper. The tent was not stored in extreme conditions and was practically brand new. So disappointing.

That said I love this tent so much (lightweight, easy to set up, HUGE for a 2 person tent) we talked about buying expensive waterproofer, etc. to make it work. But that just doesn't make sense. Hopefully we can find a design we like as much that actually IS waterproof.

            Unanswered Question

When set up properly, is this tent fully waterproof? I've come across a couple of reviews stating that this tent leaked while other reviewers said that it held up great in the rain. Are there known issues with the taped seams? I need to be sure this will hold up against the elements while backpacking in the high country. I see the specs say waterproof but figured it couldn't hurt to get a second opinion.

The length of the sleeping area is really 90", as it is stated in the characteristics? Or less? (The dimensions of many tents are in reality less than those declared by the manufacturer).

How does this tent manage in high winds?

            Hey Mary,

The Limelight does great in high winds. With the fly having full coverage all the way to the ground it give all the protect you will need. As long as you have the tent staked down well and the guy lines staked out for additional support the limelight will do great. Email headed your way Mary. Hit me up directly with other questions.
