    Lightray Insulated Jacket

The Marmot Lightray Insulated Jacket is built with the everyday skier in mind. It boasts an excellent blend of performance and style that has become the industry standard over the last few years. The Gore-Tex 2-layer laminate allows you to go riding no matter the conditions by blocking out horrible winter weather, while simultaneously wicking moisture and releasing excess body heat. This bad weather often brings along extremely cold air so the Lightray is packed full of lightweight but well-insulating Primaloft Black ECO insulation that allows you to ride from the first chair to the last. Finally a combination of riding specific pockets, a helmet compatible hood, and under arm vents ensure you stay warm, comfortable, and prepared all day long.

    • Ski and snowboard jacket ready for the deepest days of the year
    • Gore-Tex 2L laminate seals out and releases moisture
    • Primaloft insulation traps body heat to keep you warm all day
    • Fully sealed seams help prevent water from sneaking into layers
    • Helmet compatible hood helps block driving snow and wind
    • Underarm vents dump excess heat on the skin track or boot pack
    • A plethora of ski and ride specific pockets help you stay organized
    • Hook and loop closure on cuffs prevent snow on your wrists
    • Item #MAR01UN

    So far so good

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I haven't had a chance to try it on the slopes but my first impression is that is has everything I'll need. I'll update my review once I've worn it a few times.
I had a bilateral mastectomy with reconstruction and my chest gets really cold quite easily so my current shell (not enough room for laying) doesn't work for cold days.

I was looking for a shell I could wear either a fleece or down midlayer under or a lightly insulated jacket that would need a baselayer. I tried a couple other technical shells but decided this was a good fit since I have another shell for warmer days. Even with the light insulation i can still wear my packable down on the really cold days. Whether or not I need any additional layers is TBD.
