Knife Edge Jacket

Face off inclement weather with the burly yet lightweight protection of the Marmot Knife Edge Jacket. This technical rain shell has a water- and windproof Gore-Tex Paclite membrane that packs down so well you'll have no excuse to be sans jacket when you embark on a day hike, weekend adventure, or bike commute to work. When the sky opens up, pull out the Knife Edge from your pack, slip it an, and stay dry and protected from the elements with help from the fully taped seams and DWR treatment.

Aside from being able to pack down to fit into small spaces, the Knife Edge Jacket is also equipped with Marmot's Angel-Wing Movement so you aren't being restricted by your jacket as you quickly hike down a mountain when a storm rolls in or pedal home from work when the afternoon showers unload. When you throw on the hood for particularly nasty downpours, you can make adjustments so your peripherals aren't impacted as you make your getaway from the storm. And if you take a wrong turn in your hurry to get off the mountain, you can still shove your hands into their pockets and access your map while you're wearing a pack.

  • Packable rain shell for full protection in stormy weather
  • Gore-Tex membrane guarantees waterproof, breathable performance
  • PFC free DWR treatment beads and repels water for dry fabric
  • Fully-taped seams block all access to sneaky moisture
  • Articulated design provides full mobility while active
  • Adjustable hem, hood, and cuffs seal out the stormy weather
  • Pockets placed for easy access even with a pack on

Ordered this jacket because I need a decent rain jacket. After it arrived I tried it on and it was too tight. Seemed like nice material and like it would have been a good jacket but I can't wear it because it is uncomfortably tight for it's size.

I love this jacket! I took it out with me while going fishing and it was predicted to rain a little. This jacket was easy to pack and it was surprisingly quite warm.

My husband can attest to the fact i have FAR TOO many jackets, but a good jacket is a good jacket and its nice to have variety. I scooped this one up on sale a few yrs ago and man its a great shell. i toss it over my poof jacket when it starts to rain or the wind gets ripping. excellent venting. blocks the wind while still breathable and shields me from massive amounts of rain. For the price you cant beat this rain shell. Took this to NZ for 100 miles of backpacking, day hikes, walk-abouts etc and man did NZ offer some soggy wet days and some gnarly windy days and im glad i had this light weight jacket stashed in my bag. i would like it to be a little longer as it sits right at my hips, maybe a little lower in the back for rump and hip coverage. Maybe the new style does that, but based off the pics not so much.

Put to the Test

I bought this jacket in a panic a week before leaving on a trip to the Galapagos and to hike the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu as I learned that the rainy season might bring a lot more rain than I had expected. I read a number of reviews on different rain jackets across a number of sites and this one kept coming up and meeting the specs I was looking for- black, slim fit as I’m petite, packable, and featuring Gore-Tex. Also, felt confident in the prominent taping on the zippers. The jacket was a little more than I wanted to spend, but I live in NYC and walk in the rain a lot and figured it would be an investment. Well let me tell you, I put this jacket to the test that I wasn’t even ready for. On the FIRST DAY of my trip, I took a two hour boat ride on a small fishing boat in the Galapagos. The weather turned pretty bad just after we started the trip and we were hitting huge waves and getting soaked. I pulled my jacket out of my backpack and put the hood up. The jacket kept me dry and blocked out the wind. The water rolled right off and the sea salt left behind was easy to wipe off. For the hiking leg of my trip on the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu, this jacket saved the day. Two days into the four day trek, it began to rain with heavy wind and didn’t stop. I wore this jacket non-stop for two days, only taking it off to sleep. Never soaked through or felt too hot with plenty of room with a sweater underneath. I was miserable, but dry. Over All Fit- I’m petite and this jacket fit me (5’2”, 112, 34B, active body type, size small) very well. There is more than enough room for me to wear a sweater under it and still be very comfortable. The front hits just below my hips and the back is tapered a bit and covers my backside, while also being flattering. The hood adjusts to a range of sizes and fit well with full coverage. There isn’t really a collar, but I was able to just fold the neck down (I saw reviews where this bothered some people, but it was fine for me).The two pockets on the front are very large and held all my needs (including a Peruvian Water Jug that I won at a dinner and then took to a night club). I like the Velcro on the sleeves to keep out the water/ wind/ cold. I was never overly hot in the jacket and I breathed well, the vents on the arm pits really helped while hiking. Pros- Great fit. Light and packable. Smelled after I wore it for four days with no shower as should be expected, but I washed it with detergent in my sink and it dried fully in about two hours totally smell free. Breathable and durable material. The material is softer than I expected and flexible, it does not make that loud brushing sound some rain jackets do as you walk. Kept me warm in the cooler temperatures (~50F), but not overly hot. Dirt, sea salt, and food (I’m messy) wiped off well. I saw in some reviews that the zippers are difficult and they were a bit hard to zip when I first got the jacket, but loosened up over time and are fine now. Cons- The description says it packs to the size of a coffee cup, but it’s a bit bigger than that and it doesn’t pack into a pocket or bag like other jackets. I did figure out how to pack it into the hood, which was very helpful (lay the jacket down with the front facing you, fold arms in one at a time, roll from bottom and tuck in hood, pull the cords on the hood down tight). This jacket is more of a shell and isn’t insulated, I wasn’t looking for that, but if you are this might not be the right jacket for you. There are no inside pockets just the two on the front. Overall, I’m very happy with the jacket and felt like it is true to the description provided. I’m looking forward to using it for years to come. Also, shout out to Back Country for selling this jacket at the lowest price with two day shipping- so happy!

The jacket is of high quality and soft material. Although I say true to size, it runs smaller in the shoulders and larger in the body. I'm 5'2
