Coziest bag of all time
I love this sleeping bag. It is so warm and cozy and worked great when we took an impromptu camping trip last month. While I probably wouldn't bring it with me on a backpacking trip, it was awesome for car camping and kept me warm and cozy even as temps dropped to 20 degrees!

Really happy with this thing. Light, fluffy, insanely stuffable, this is one of the best 3-season bags on the market. It's pretty silent and is one of the most comfortable bags to be in that I've used.

An absolutely amazing bag. Wanted to finally upgrade to a premium (800-fill) bag and could not be more pleased. This bag is plenty roomy (I purchased the Long being 6ft+) and absurdly cozy. I think my favorite feature is the second zipper that lets you use the bag like a comforter when you don't need to be fully mummy'd in, which gives this bag a great range beyond just cold-weather backpacking. I do recommend a compression sack with this, as the stuff sack provided is pretty basic. Overall I think this bag is an exceptional middle ground between $500+ ultra-premium bags and the heavier, 650-fill budget options. Also, Marmot puts out the best sleeping bags IMO. So happy to have upgraded!!!

Best Bag Ever
I've had this bag for 10+ years, and it has more than 5,000 trail miles on it. It has saved me life a number of times, and kept me comfortable on the nights where my life wasn't in danger. It's lightweight, it's a reasonable price, and it's super cozy. Last year, I sent it back to Marmot to have a tear repaired, and their customer service was exceptional too. I am buying another one for myself for Christmas, and handing down my old beloved Helium to my best friend for continued love. Buy this bag!

Great sleeping bag
I used the Marmot helium for an early season bow hunt in Colorado. We had a few cold nights and it provided adequate warmth and sleeps very comfortable. There was a great peace of mind to know that each night there was no worry of staying warm and getting some rest during our hunt. This is the best sleeping bag I have ever used. Well worth the money.

Warm, light, and double zipped
This sleeping bag is warm for most three-season uses, light, compresses into a small wad, and has a great double-zipper that allows both sides of the bag to be at least partially unzipped. The pertex outer fabric makes the bag slightly water-resistant, which is great for condensation drips. The zippers are well designed so they don't have the tendency to grab the fabric. Can't say much that other reviewers haven't already said, but this bag rocks!

Great Bag, Great Value
Took it to the mountains of New Mexico in late January and it performed wonderfully. I am a fairly cold sleeper and the bag kept me warm on multiple windy nights in a cheap 1-man tent. Lows where down to 25 F and I was toasty in my base layer. I'm sure I would still be comfortable if it was another 10 degrees colder. Very good construction quality, and no sign of escaping feathers. I'm 6'0, 155 lbs and the regular size fits me perfectly with little room to spare.

Lives up to its name
I just completed a 2 week thru of the Ozark Highlands Trail and although I have had this bag a while, I was holding off on a review of this bag until I really had something to talk about. We have had a proper winter, by NW Arkansas standards; the first in a few years. The Helium did its job and exceeded expectations. I experienced cold temps throughout the trip with a low of 8 degrees. I was relatively comfortable the whole time and would not hesitate taking this bag down to 0 degrees. That being said, I am a furnace when I sleep and I would be fully clothed, but for me it would be doable. The bag itself is generously sized without being bulky. I have a wide shoulder build and never felt overly constrained. The zipper is a great design and if you are careful with keeping the baffle out of the way when zipping, there will be no problems. A little thing that I noticed a few days into the trip is how convenient the small zipper on the right side of the bag is! It only zips down 12" or so, but is perfect for getting both arms out to read or whatever when its too cold to be out of the bag but too early to sleep! I think it is most comfortable in the 15-25 degree range and I had to vent as I got too hot above 25. Mostly slept in just baselayers, socks, beanie, and nanopuff vest to keep core warm. Overall solid product from Marmot at a reasonable price.

Great bag for the Shoulder Seasons!
This bag checks all the boxes. It's lightweight, compressible, durable, warm, and affordable! As with all bags I'd give comfort rating of about 10 degrees warmer than the listed rating, meaning it excels in temps in the mid to low 20s (with only a baselayer on). I personally use it backpacking, and car camping in the fall and spring when the temps dip into the low 20s and high teens at night. Do yourself a favor and get this sleeping bag.

Gifting to parents!
My parents are in need of new sleeping bags, they've had the same ones for 20+ years and it's time for an upgrade! They do everything from car camping to backpacking and have been spending a lot of their time in the winter up in Montana where temps dip lowwww. I chose the Helium 15 because I think the 800 fill down will be awesome for them when they go on backpacking trips and need something lightweight. I bought left zips for both of them, but I think if you get left and right zip these will zip together to make a giant, warm, human burrito.

Lightened Up and Slept Better!
It's quickly becoming my tradition to backpack the high Sierras in late October with family and friends. Last year I realized a few things about myself and sleeping bags while on the 6-day High Sierra Trail. I don't like waking up cold! I don't want to wear my puffy or extra layers to make a 30 degree bag work for 20+ degree nights. And since I tend to huddle tightly in my bag when cold, my previous purchase of a semi-rectangular bag was a sacrifice of weight and warmth. So I was on the hunt for a bag under two pounds in the 0-15 degree range. I purchased the Marmot Helium after narrowing the field. At 2.1 lbs. the value and quality of the Helium just can't be beat. I was happy to catch the Backcountry Marmot sale and thanks to my Gearhead, Gabe, for rushing shipment in time for this year's trip to the Mineral King Wilderness. At age 60 and a colder sleeper these days, the Helium made all the difference in a great night's sleep above the tree line in mid-20s. The 800 fill compressed well to eliminate bulk in my HMG 2400. I wear a L shirt (42-44" chest) and had enough room for movement as a side sleeper. The materials are soft, warm, quiet, light, and kept the bag on the sleeping pad. And I stayed completely cozy in a base layer. I was surprised at how light and airy it felt, and for the first time found myself comfortably breathing fine while completely submerged with my head covered. Great 3-season pick!

Richard, Thanks for the awesome review! Glad you weren't cold this time around, haha. Have fun!

Warm, soft, and quiet
Technically, this bag is amazing. I'm 6'5" tall and fit in the Long with room to spare for extra socks and the morning's clothes at my feet. The good cinched down perfectly so my mouth and nose were left exposed, so condensation from breathing didn't foul the bag. The nice long zip made temp control a simple task, as my first multi day use was in Iceland with temps ranging from 35-65 F. It is water resistant, and even when the shell is waterlogged, the down didn't compress too badly. It packs down to the size of a large grapefruit, I used a small S2S eVent compression sack. As far as weight, it was barely noticeable as I was not pushing for ultralight - at just over 2 pounds, it easily fits into a very light pack. All in all, it's a terrific bag and I will update my review after winter when I can push it past its ratings.

Great Bag and Value
For the cost I don't think you can go wrong, super lightweight and holds up to it's temp rating.

The Ideal Bag
This is my favorite sleeping bag ever-- it kept me very comfortably warm during an unexpected freezing snow storm in the Wind River range with only a tarp over my head and this bag around my body. Yet it is also so light that I barely even notice it on long hikes and steep technical climbs. It comes with a large storage bag to keep it loose for storage and a separate small bag for compressing it and taking it on hikes/climbs. The sleeping bag compresses so well that with almost no effort I can stuff it in the tiny sack and quickly be on my way. I can't imagine any better sleeping bag and highly recommend it for any sort of alpine trip (you would probably only want a warmer temp rating if you were doing winter alpine activities or obviously if you were in alaska or himalayas or something, but for most 3-season high-altitude alpine activities in the U.S. this bag with an insulative pad and your layers should be sufficient), I only wish it were also available with left/right zipper options. I am 6ft tall and the regular works great with a little room for stuffing a few clothes at the bottom if necessary.

Marmot Helium Sleeping Bag
Love this bag. High quality and compressible down and very light weight. Kept my wife warm this summer in Utah and Colorado. She gets cold very easily and this was what she needed when the temperatures dropped to the 40s. Great investment. Marmot always makes great gear and committed to excellence. Thanks Kyle Livingston at Backcountry for helping us out.

I am so glad the Marmot Helium worked out on your road trip!

The Perfect Three Season Sleeping Bag
This bag is so freaking versatile its unrealI! I slept comfortable at 10,000 ft when it got down to 25F degrees, but I've also used it in the desert where the low was 75F! I Its also insane how light this bag is. I have the long and it weighs in at just over 2 lbs, and it practically packs down to nothing. It really is the perfect 3 season sleeping bag. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions!

Lighter than champagne
I wanted an 800 down, high-quality, three-season sleeping bag to work primarily in high-elevation camping. Early in the spring season, I slept comfortably in the desert around Moab at 5,000 feet. Later, with snow still on the slopes, I slept well at 10,000 feet near Pikes Peak. The sleeping bag is ideal for dispersed camping in wilderness areas throughout the Mountain West, paired with an 800 down jacket or fleece. The bag is compressible, of course; the materials are high-quality, apparently durable; zipper is snag-free. The bag is so light, I feel like I am sleeping naked. I feel this was an ideal purchase. This will usually replace my heavier Marmot Never Summer bag, the bed that has fulfilled my nine-month, high-mountain needs for two decades. Great, versatile, lightweight, reasonably-priced 800 down sleeping bag.

I've taken this bag everywhere in every season over the past year and wouldn't buy any other. It is super light and compact for the amount of warmth it provides. It is actually too small to base my backpacking bag when in the given compression sack, so I put mine in a 20L drypack with my puffy and clothes for a wider base. I've heard the 15 degree rating is a little generous, but I sleep hot and wouldn't know. I've spent many nights cozy in this bag and a quinzee.

I love Marmot Bags. They have never given me problems with leakage, they compress down awesome and are pretty light. Just as a warning, I think the 15 degree rating is more of an extreme rating, so if you run a little cold, you may want to look somewhere else.

Hello, can you tell me how many ounces of 800 fill In a regular size bag? Comparing this to the WM Apache MF 15 deg bag (19 oz of 850) which is maybe hard to beat. Thanks.
February 16, 2018
I'm a rather cold sleeper, have tried the traditional quilt method and even with (several) high end to low end pads with R values ranging from 2-4.9, I can't stay warm in a ~10°F quilt around 20°. I'm interested in ordering this and have questions someone can hopefully help me with. 1) how much longer will this item be on sale? 2) is this the/a newest model? 3) Backcountry or Marmot warranty on items that may be subpar? 4) I usually backpack in temps ranging from full on hot and humid to just below freezing. I'm wondering if this will be overkill. If I added this I'd be adding around 9oz to my pack, which I like to keep low weight, I also don't want to sacrifice. Just wondering if I should opt for the hydrogen (30°) model. Thanks in advance!! Thanks in advance!

Does this bag attach to a sleeping pad?
February 16, 2018
I dont think this bag has the sleeping pad sleeve that some bags have.
April 19, 2017
How small does this bag pack? Also, what size of compression sack would be optimal? Thanks

Does this version of the Helium 15 have the water resistant down? (Down Defender)? Thanks!
August 29, 2016
Hey Jonathan - The 800-fill goose down in the Helium 15 is treated with Marmot's Down Defender and the Pertex outer material has a DWR treatment to make this bag even more water resistant. Feel free to contact me directly with any additional questions. - Kyle L. - Expert Gearhead
