Guiding your way through extreme cold with wonderful warmth.

When the weather's so cold that skiers flee the resorts, you slide a ski shell over the Marmot Men's Guides Hooded Down Jacket and enjoy the solitude of the winter wonderland. The 700-fill down insulation keeps you nice and toasty on those chilly chairlifts, and the Down Defender treatment helps the insulation retain its loft so you stay warm if it gets wet. Polyester ripstop wraps up this wonderful warmth with durability that won't let feathers poke out. Both the interior and exterior have a water-resistant coating to keep you doubly protected against wet weather.

Angel-Wing Movement gives you unrestricted mobility on the slopes, and it stops the body from rising up your waist when you stretch and twist around. A wind flap behind the front zipper prevents blustery breezes from seeping in the jacket. Hook-and-loop cuffs keep warmth in, and the elastic drawcord at the hem seals cold out. And the handwarmer pockets have a soft fabric to keep your hands cozy and toasty when you're traversing the resort plaza en route to a well-earned post-shred meal.

Great Jacket - if it fits....

    • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Lg / XL
    • Height: 6'0"
    • Weight: 205lbs

I had this jacket in XL for years and needed a new one. The new cut to this jacket has no taper so it fits accordingly. I have a 45" chest and ordered an XL (fits great through the shoulders and chest) but there was 12" of extra room at the hem (35" waist - 44" hips). The large didn't fit in the shoulders and chest and was still too roomy at the waist. This jacket would be passable for casual use layering over baggy clothes but if you're wearing trim items it may cause issues with the fit. I wouldn't wear it for active endeavors unless the fit doesn't give you the parachute effect.

This is a tweener jacket for cold activities. Probably not warm enough for low-impact in very cold weather but really versatile from 0-40 degrees.

    Really warm, love the hood

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: XL
    • Height: 5'10"
    • Weight: 175lbs

I'm 5'10 athletic build and returned a large for an XL, I like to be able to wear a hoodie or a big sweater under my coats in the winter. The large fit me fine I just like the feel of the XL swallowing me up. Comes down a little further over my butt which makes it warmer too. It's super warm, especially if you keep the hood on. Probably too warm for skiing if it's above 15 degrees.

    A stand alone puffy

Finally, a jacket that stands alone. I'm so used to wearing the lightweight down jackets and being "comfortable". I got this jacket for one to wear and guarantee I'd be warm in any temps. Regularly I wear this jacket, with only a t-shirt underneath, on hikes with my dog after sunset when the temps are in the single digits. And I feel comfortable. It keeps me warm in cold and windy conditions. Bonus feature, for how puffy it is, it still packs down into the breast pocket!.

      Minnesota Winter Jacket

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times
      • Fit: True to size
      • Size Bought: Large
      • Height: 5'11"
      • Weight: 200lbs

This might be the best coat I've ever had for Minnesota winters.

5'11'', 200-ish lbs, 34 waist - I went with the large. Fits great.

I use this daily walking the dogs in the late fall and throughout the winter. It's probably not warm enough to just wear a t-shirt under for extended periods, but it's great paired with a sweater, hoodie, or a base-layer.

Does a great job at cutting down the wind out on those bone chilling nights.

Velcro wrist straps are great for keeping warm air inside the sleeves. Double front zipper is an added bonus. I love this coat.

Definitely not the jacket for real cold

Nice jacket, not the lightest but for the money it’s a good down jacket. However, these people claiming it’s good for subzero temps are off their rockers. It’s basically a thicker, warmer puffy and still has sewn through baffles. It’s a step up from any of the lightweight down sweaters in terms of warmth and weight but don’t expect it to be a winter parka.

Nice quality, but not warm enough.

I brought this product and just returned it. I live in Boston, it is too light for me to fight with the winter. Overall, it is a nice-built down jacket. If you living in the near areas, go look for a heavier jacket, this one is too light for you.

      Super puffy jacket

      • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
      • Fit: True to size
      • Size Bought: XL
      • Height: 5'9"
      • Weight: 200lbs

I just moved to the mountains of Colorado from Louisiana so I recently found myself in need of a good basic jacket. I found this one at a great price point after searching in vain for a jacket in the ladies dept (I'm a chunky gal, not a common thing in these parts, and I don't like frou frou colors). This jacket is very warm, so far (I'm a sissy when it gets remotely chilly) and it's roomy enough at an XL to wear a sweater underneath. The fleece lined hand pockets are great, in addition to the extra pockets on the front and inside. The ripstop is hardly noticible on the exterior. It's super soft and very breathable. I like how it has a water resistant treatment and extra synthetic fill on exposed areas so it should hold up once the weather gets colder. I'm very happy with the purchase especially at less than 200 bucks. It seems very well made. The stitching is tight and even, no down poking through. I don't plan on doing a lot of mountain stuff because I work and go to school full time. I don't doubt that it'll hold up for more than a couple of seasons. I ordered this along with some Sorel boots when the snow started, and chose next day air. Backcountry does not play when it comes to shipping! It was at my house the next day! We'll see how she holds up when it gets really cold. I'll update if any issues arise.

      Design flaw

      • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
      • Fit: True to size
      • Size Bought: Medium
      • Height: 5'7"
      • Weight: 145lbs

I bought this jacket last year but returned it right after I tried it on. Pros- It fits nicely. It looks nice.
Cons- I thought it was a little light weight and definitely couldn’t be worn if the weather got too cold.
Idiotic design flaw- some fool designed this so the metal grommets are up against your chin/lips/face when you zip it all the way up. So however cold it is outside can be felt through that metal. Also the holes give the wind and cold a chance to blow right onto your chin.

      Idiots.

      Warm, Dry, and Comfortable!

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
      • Fit: True to size
      • Size Bought: Large
      • Height: 5'10"
      • Weight: 154lbs

Love the fit and breathable capabilities, keeps me warm on the chill slopes and i don't even put a hard-shell over it. pockets keep your hands nice and toasty. combined with some good base layers i'm never cold with this on!

      Warm and Cozy

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times
      • Fit: Runs large
      • Size Bought: large
      • Height: 5'10"
      • Weight: 165lbs

Got the Marmot Guides jacket for my boyfriend as his heavy/serious winter jacket and it is incredibly warm. The 700 fill down does not disappoint, especially for the price point and affordability of this jacket. It is a little larger than other brands who he typically wears a size L in, but it works and fits great. He is 5'10 and 165lbs for reference.

      not what i expected

      • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
      • Fit: True to size

Coat is nicely constructed but does not live up to the reviews that I had read .. definitely not enough coat for temps less than 25 degrees ....

      Warm! Sooooooo very warm!!

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times
      • Fit: True to size

Wow, this jacket is very very warm. I had one of the gearheads help me pick between this and the more expensive Arc'teryx and I am very happy! You can throw this thing on with just a teeshirt and you're good to go. I was told it is rated for about 0-10 degree and I believe it. It is slightly more puffy than I wanted it but hey, I'll take warmth vs style any day. I am 6'0" at 230lbs and I purchased the XL. Very nice fit.

      Really Warm Jacket!

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

      • Size Bought: Large
      • Height: 5'11"

This is my favorite all purpose winter jacket I have ever owned.
It is incredibly comfortable and warm. Rarely leave the house without it when it gets below freezing. Inside of pockets are nicely lined and can really warm your hands up quick. Tough to get cold in this jacket!

      Hem Adjustment

I just had a customer call in concerned that his jacket was defective. The hem adjustment tab seemed to be sew in the inside of the jacket and not accessible to use. He then realized it is accessible from the pocket to make the appropriate adjustments.
So just a heads up :)

        I am 6’2 , 215 lbs, my size xxl ??? Thanks

        Unanswered Question

        Hello,
I’m 5”8 and about 160-165 lbs. Can a medium fit me or should I go with the large? Thank you in advance!

        Unanswered Question

        Large or Extra large?
I need a little help on a purchase for my boyfriend. He's 6'1", 190 lbs and a muscular built and he's usually wears a Large but I'm having a hard time choosing what size Marmot jacket would fit. What size would you suggest?

I like this jacket in black, will you offer it to me at 45% off?

how does this differ from the ama dablem?

The Guides down hoody is a bit warmer than the Ama Dablam. Ama Dablam uses higher fill power and a lighter fabric so will be lighter and stuff down smaller than the Guides Down. Guides Down has a heavier face fabric and will hold up better for more rugged use.

        Anybody can tell me,
        for a man 5'10 and 175lb,
        L or XL is better?
        many thanks.

        Hey Rubens,

I would recommend you go with a Large in the Marmot Guides Hooded Down Jacket. The XL will definitely be too roomy. Feel free to contact me directly with any more questions on this or other Marmot Jackets or if you are interested in setting up an order.

        Is this jacket machine-washable?

        Best Answer

        Hey Giovanna V.,

Yes this jacket is machine washable. But you must strictly abide by the care instructions on the tag. It is also not a bag idea to use some tennis balls to help re plump the down fill while drying the jacket.

marmot change goose down to duck down this...

marmot change goose down to duck down this year, does the duck down in it have odor?

        Best Answer

        qwertwin,

I have a feeling that a lot of ducks out there are going to be offended by your question. They have played second fiddle to their geese friends long enough, but now they are being accused of a fowl smell.

Seriously though, I have worn older Marmot down jacket that have goose down as well as the newer models with duck down and I have not noticed any odor from either jacket, nor have I noticed a difference in warmth.
