Best backpacking rain pants out there!

- Fit: True to size
- Size Bought: Medium

You will not find pants that are this light and pack this small, even in a higher price range. If you do then they are definitely not going to be waterproof. Resistant at best.
And to top it off they have a fully waterproof rating and in the field stand up to the rating. I have been stuck in a storm where I swear it was raining up in these things and they kept me dry for the 6 more miles I had to get to camp.
If you want a backpacking rain pant stop here.

I have owned and used the Marmot Essence Jacket for years. It has lived in the bottom of my bike pack, backpacking pack, and hiking pack and kept me dry through many rain storms. When preparing for my recent honeymoon to Europe I decided to pick up these Essence Pants to complete my rain kit. My wife and I were doing the Tour du Mont Blanc, 8 days hiking through Alps while circumnavigating the Mont Blanc massif. And thank goodness I had these pants! Not only did it rain consistently for two days but it even snowed on Bastille Day, July 14th. The pants stood up well to many hours hiking through the rain (and snow) and did not wet through or cause me to sweat profusely.
I would recommend the Essence Pants and Jacket to anyone but be warned these are barebones; no pockets, no frills but they keep you dry when you need it most. I am a 34x34 and went with the size Large. Feel free to contact me directly with questions about these pants or any hiking/backpacking gear.
