Comfortable, Light, and Fully Featured

I've put it through the wringer

I have been climbing and mountaineering since the early '90s. I have used lots of packs. Usually, a light pack means a painful pack once you put weight in it. This one finally breaks that mold. It is the most comfortable pack I have ever carried even when it's full of mountaineering gear. The shoulder straps call to mind those light comfortable running vests and they do not disappoint. The sleeves in the shoulder straps make it so easy to access water, phones, maps, snacks, or other small things while on the move. In addition to being comfortable, the pack is well thought out. It has all the features I want without being cluttered with too many frills. Removable top pocket? Check. Secure pocket for wallet and keys? Check. Secure ice axe holders? Check. Water bladder integration? Check. Compressible? Check. Comfortable? Triple Check! I could not ask for a better big pack. I also love its littlest sibling the Trion Nordwand 15!

Is the Mammut Trion Nordwand 38L Backpack water resistant or I need to buy a rain cover for it?

Does this pack have a avi shovel pocket inside the main compartment? It says it’s built for ski touring.

Hi Tucker, Yes there is a large zippered front pocket that can be used to store avalanche safety gear like a shovel and a probe. Cheers, Mike
