Excellent and versatile pack

I love all the features of this pack! The zip open back is amazing when I'm climbing as I can access and see all of my gear without digging or dumping it out. The waist pocket and shoulder stap pockets are super useful and I love that the shoulder straps fit and cinch down more like a running vest. It is roomy enough for overnight/longer/more gear intensive days, but small enough to strap down and use as a light day pack. My only complaint is that it doesn't come in different sizes. The pack is a bit long for my torso/back and I find it fits best with the frame taken out (it was so long the frame was hitting the back of my head when I looked up).

Love this bag

Familiarity:
I've used it several times
Height:
5' 11"
Weight:
175

Used it for a week and a half trip through parts of Europe, for summer and winter hiking, and for skiing. Works exceptionally well for them all. I love that it has the back zip and a large brain. The hidden loops for criss-crossing paracord is great and has been used, and most importantly - 2 water bottle slots - this usually seems exceedingly uncommon for ski bags. My only gripe is that the chest buckle doesn’t go very high, but it’s something I can deal with.

Well thought out pack.

Been using this for skimo trips. Super happy with it! lots of options for holding skis, poles, ice axes, etc. I love that that back panel opens up. Would recommend! Side water bottle pockets are smaller than I expectec but they grip a nalgene bottle nice and tight.

The u-load zipper on the back is incredible for access to gear without unpacking the entire pack. Lots of good external features for gear. One thing that would be nice would be if the side mesh pockets were big enough for a Nalgene.

Misleading information from Backcountry

Familiarity:
I returned this product before using it

I purchased this item last weekend. I don't follow the name of the different models, I always check the description, price and pictures. The Mammut Trion 35L is not the backpack shown in the pictures with the guy using the marine backpack, that backpack is the Mammut Trion Spine 35L which is 100-200 USD more expensive than the Trion 35L. They are selling the Trion 35L model with pictures of the Trion Spine 35L model. I guess it is what it is, but you need to be careful with that you are getting here, because apparently, you can't trust the pictures on this site. I am returning the product.

Super comfortable hiking and climbing bag. Haven't taken it on any multi pitch climbing but bag is comfy for hikes to the crag or alpine adventures. I have taken it ski touring with decent results.

Great overall backpack with one flaw

I think this backpack is great I've used it about six seven times now on weekend cracking trips mostly trad and sport. I can fit a double rack and all my personal gear pretty easily as well as sinch a rope at the top of the pack. I've not used it too many times to really speak to its durability but so far it looks pretty good. The one drawback and I could not for the life of me understand why they did this, is the metal tube frame that supports the structure of the back is held down with a velcro strap. Does velcro strap comes undone every time I go on a hike no matter how short or easy. I'm probably going to find a tailor that can close this permanently to make it feel better but overall it's pretty solid

Not A Premium Build

I had the Trion Pro 50 previously, and the material and build on that pack was excellent. Unfortunately, Mammut seems to think a non-pro version doesn't need the same level of material quality. The walls of the pack are very thin and didn't hold up well to the edges of skis. The front pocket has a thin wall, crampons need to be deliberately organized or stored in a crampon bag to avoid puncturing it. The lid of the pack only has one pocket, on the top. The pack also does not feature the loops on other Mammut packs to use the Mammut brand helmet holder on top. I appreciate the stretch pockets on the chest straps. It makes for easy access to a phone and food while moving.

Everything they claim to be

This is a very well designed backpack. The features arevery handy but the one I like the most is the ability to open the pack from the back. You don't realize how handy that is until it is available to you. As for fit, I'm 5'9 180 and it fits comfortably for hours at a time.
