    Lightweight Adequate Head Protection

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

The helmet fits great and has plenty of adjustment. Once it is on, you'll forget that it's there. Vision is not effected at all with this helmet. It looks good. It comes with a helmet bag to keep my gear from scratching it up while scrambling to and from the climbing routes. It keeps my head cooler than I thought it would, comfortably climbing in temperatures exceeding 105 degrees. Oh, and the headlamp clips work with no issues. In response to a recent comment: No hard shell climbing helmet fits like a bike helmet. Climbing helmets are designed to take a good blow to the top from a falling rock or when you hit your head on an overhang. That is there main focus. Secondary consideration is given to front and back impacts from a whipper fall. Side impacts would be somewhat rare because a shoulder would take the majority of the force from a fall that had you twisted to the side.

    Didn't fit me right

    • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it

Really wanted to love this helmet, which would have been my first climbing helmet. However, I found the fit uncomfortable. I was comparing it to multiple bike helmets I've had, which are comfortable enough that one can forget one is wearing a helmet at all. Unfortunately, in the case of the Mammut Skywalker 2, there is no way to adjust the back strap up or down. On my head, the back strap didn't lie low enough. To keep the helmet on (since it rode quite high) it was necessary to crank tight the knob on the rear strap, boring directly into the occipital bone on the back of my skull. I foresaw the helmet giving me a headache if I wore it for any amount of time, and decided to return it. I should have read this review by Outdoor Gear Lab first:

    Comfortable and protective

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

It's a helmet that fits and adjusts well, covers the noggin, retains the headlamp robustly and is comfortable enough that you forget you even have it on. Lightweight and adjusts for all conditions, very easily. Recommended!

    Nice Fit, Good Price

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Overall good fitting, adjustable to fit most head sizes, comfortable to wear, no sliding around. I've hit my head with this helmet on multiple times I am confident it will do the desired job

    nice looks good price

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

This helmet has a sleek appeal , and is very light.
Though compared to the $60 Petzel model, the plastic shell of the Mammut seems to be lower quality. The Petzel certainly has a thicker outer shell. So depending on your usage choose wisely. I use the Mammut for mountain biking and shot top rope climbs. If I were to get serious on the rock Id go for someting else. As a weekend warrior, this works fine.

    Great Dome Shield

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I wanted an inexpensive helmet that wasn't the Half dome from BD... Thankfully there was the Skywalker. Is very comfy, fits well, looks good, and protects the brain cage. save your brain and get this bad boy now.

oh and i got the black.. thought it might be to hot but it breathes very very well.

    Great Dome Shield

The Force is strong with this one

    • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

Uhhhh besides the kick ass name this helmet is bomber! My friend loves it. It is light. Well ventilated and fits comfortably. What more could you want from a helmet? Also comes in awesome colors and the headlamp clips make it so you are not fumbling around and adjusting your headlamp strap just clip and go!

I gave this helmet as a Christmas gift to a friend and really didn't know what to expect. It turned out to be everything you want from a climbing helmet. It's comfortable and adjustable to fit all head sizes. has a nice pad underneath the chin has plenty of good ventilation holes for those hot days out at the crag.

I needed a new helmet something fierce. I researched helmets for about month before I ended up buying this helmet. Why did I end up with this one? Well I love Mammut and all the products it sells. As well as the color combos this helmet offered were excellent. I was a little worried about the helmet being mostly black and it getting too hot in a sport where you are in the sun a lot. My worries of this subsided the second I wore in in 90 degree weather and direct sun for 5 hours. It stayed cool and kept me safe. This helmet has excellent safety and comfort options. From a padded chin buckle to adjustable ear spaces.

    Decent Helmet

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I have used this helmet a handful of times. That being said it is fairly comfortable. The only thing that I do not like is that the straps rub my face a little wrong and just is not the most comfortable when tight.

Overall it breathes decent and is a good helmet. It protects your head!

    Mammut Skywalker

I purchased 2 of these helmets a few years ago. Right out of the box this helmet fit perfectly and was surprisingly comfortable. About a month ago I noticed the foam in my first helmet came unglued from the plastic shell and the foam cracked in half right across the vent holes on one side. I duct taped this together to keep the piece from falling out while I was still using it and started using my other newer seldom used second helmet. Within 2 weeks the foam in this helmet has also broken in the same manner and location as the first one. My first helmet (Half Dome) was worn for around 8 or 9 years of 35+wkends of climbing per year before I decided to get a new one. It is still going strong and I use it mostly for caving with no problems still. Despite the comfort of the Skywalker helmet, I would not recommend it.

How's the ventilation on this? It'll be my work/climbing helmet and some days I can be stuck on top of a tower for multiple hours in the sun. The rental helmets really aren't the greatest for it...

Hey I use mine in the sun and it's quite nice to have the vent holes in the helmet the way they are I've used other helmets and they don't let your head breathe at all. I work at a high ropes challenge course and use climbing helmets all day and I say that this is one of the most comfortable helmets I've worn. It's worth buying.

Is this helmet ansi or nfpa certified?

It is CE certified and GS stamped... one is the European Certification (climbing safety) and one is a German Safety certification. It is intended for use in climbing. The ANSI and NFPA requirements may or may not exist in these helmets as they are not designed for workplace/fire rescue use. I would suggest contacting the manufacturer directly.

How's the fit on this? I have a somewhat large-ish head (most CAMP one-size-fits-all helmets don't fit) and the Elios size 2 is just a smidge small with a hat on.
