Made for the mountains.
Weeklong hikes in the San Juans will take you across high peaks, through rocky passes, along hot trails, and through cold rainshowers, but Mammut's Runbold Light Men's Shorts will make short work of tough and changing conditions. The fabric is quick-drying and stretchy, and Mammut treated it with a DWR treatment to help it dry quickly if you get caught in a shower or have to ford a creek.

The perfect hiking shorts
- Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
- Fit: Runs small
- Size Bought: 28"
- Height: 5'8"
- Weight: 141lbs
I have spent all Summer wearing these shorts for both casual wear and hiking.
They do run a little small but that's perfect for me as I very seldom find shorts/pants that I can wear without a belt (even at 28" size). They've never once slipped down, even when wearing a full pack on 5 day backpacking trips.
The material is light, doesn't absorb much water and is quick drying. They're proving to be very durable so far too. The pockets are mesh so they're free-draining but the drawback is some things like keys can get caught when being pulled out of them.
After one season of heavy use they look as-new so I expect these will be my go-to shorts for some years to come.
Pricey compression shorts
Very well made, great material, features are all as advertised. But these things are skin tight, which was not clear from the description. I have average sized thighs, and wear a 30 in about everything, and these fit me like a pair of compression shorts. Unless you want your member clearly outlined, size way up, or look elsewhere. I will sending these back promptly.
When they say light, they mean it
- Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
- Fit: Runs small
- Size Bought: 34
- Height: 6'4"
- Weight: 195lbs
These shorts are extremely light and comfortable but they do run very small in my opinion. I wear a 34 in everything from jeans to shorts to work slacks. The 34 was skin tight on me, to the point where I'm not sure the 36 would fit. I decided to go with a different short purely for sizing purposes, but i really like what i saw. Nice material, and the zippered pockets are key.
