Why We Like The Rime Light IN Flex Hooded Jacket

The Rime Light IN Flex Hooded Jacket is a more technical insulator designed for demanding activities like mountaineering, ice climbing, and even backcountry touring. Its low-weight insulation provides that special touch of warmth needed during highly active endeavors in the frigid cold, and unlike most puffy insulators, this insulator stretches to move with you up the mountain. The shell is water- and wind-resistant for light weather protection that pairs well with technical shells when the snow starts coming down. Stretch Polartec fleece covers the sides and under the sleeves for better breathability and mobility where it counts.

Jacket that Exceeds Expectations

My first outing with this jacket was on a fat bike ride in 30 degree weather and snow. All I wore underneath was a long-sleeve hooded merino wool layer. This was plenty to keep my core warm on a 10 mile outing where my average heart rate was 154 bpm. I also wore the hood under my bike helmet which was what it was intended for. I thought I would hate this but I was wrong. Not a bother at all and my heat stayed with me. The second outing with this coat was walkng the dog in 20 degree weather. Again, plenty of warmth. I deel the best aspect of this jacket is the side panels. This jacket forces your layering system to breathe. Proper wicking has always been my achilles heel during cold-weather outings. Such does not seem to be the case anymore with this jacket. This is the absolute best and most eye-opening piece of winter apparel I have bought in over a decade. I will have much less fear and apprehension venturing out for some exercise when the temps dip below freezing with this jacket in my closet! Well done, Mammut! Anyone who reads this should immediately purchase the Rime Light jacket if you are in need of a winter jacket that will keep you comfortable in any and all cold-weather endeavors! Also, I forgot to add that the orange tag line on the front zipper was a spectacular minor detail that made adjusting my venting way easier in low light than having a color that matched the jacket. Minor detail with significant impact!

Mammut Rime Light IN Flex Hooded Jacket

As with any Mammut product, the quality and design of the Rime Light IN Flex Hooded Jacket is top notch. The only issue with this jacket is the fit. It's described as having an athletic fit but leans more towards and regular fit. The arms and wrists are particularly loose and baggy making layering somewhat of an issue. I purchased a size large and considered getting a medium for a snugger athletic fit after receiving the large but know it will be too narrow in the shoulders. If you prefer a regular fit, this jacket will likely be a welcome addition to your wardrobe.

Problems with the zipper

Have had this product about 2 weeks as of this review. First impressions, this jacket runs large. I intended this to be a mid layer for an upcoming trip to Norway in February. I got a large and I'm 5'9 and 185lbs with a muscular physic. Would have been better with a medium given the material is very stretchy. The large wears like a standard jacket on me (too large to fit under my shell jacket). Material wise, great quality and as mentioned above, lots of elasticity. Biggest downside is that the double zipper feature has already broken. Had only worn this inside the house a few times and the zipper got misaligned already. The double zipper is a nice feature because it would allow you to unzip the bottom portion to dump heat while doing your activity. Mine could have been the one faulty product in 100 but still a bummer given the price and this is supposed to be one of Mammut's top-line gears.

Great coat!

Got this coat as my daily and it's beyond anything I could have imagined. I live in Utah and work/play in Park City and this coat is my go to. Not only is it stylish enough to wear to the office, it's warm enough to wear at the resorts. I do throw a gore Tex shell over it when it's slushy, but it holds true. Like all mammut gear, try it on before buying. They are European sizes. I typically wear in between L and XL but ordered an XL because of my shoulder width. The XL is a little long, but fits my shoulders perfect. I'm 5'8 and 225lbs, athletic build.

Best lightweight insulation

Familiarity:
I've used it several times
Size Bought:
M
Height:
5' 8"

I have had this jacket for over 8 months, and this fares well compared to other insulators. I purchased an M to layer it on top of other mid-layers, and I think I should have purchased an S, which is more apt to my size. I use it every time I go out to crags or backpacking or just hiking in cold weather. My only qualm is that the material is not very durable. I got a few minor cuts on the jacket when rubbing against rocks while climbing. However, with Mammut's 2-year guarantee, they replaced my jacket with a new one. I just have to be wary of sharp rocks, which is true for any jacket. Final verdict: Get this jacket for lightweight cold and wind protection.

Missing key features!

This jacket is comfortable to wear but is missing key features. There is no inside pocket for yor phone or camera and the waist band has no draw string to keep the wind out. Size, I ordered large 5'11" 180lbs and it's too big may have been better with a medium. Fabric is comfortable and functional to breath and keep wind out.

Lightweight + Breathable = Muy Bueno

I would love this for winter trail running in the cold Michigan winters. I prefer running outside and this would add warmth without bulk.

Great all around layer

Haven't ordered a Mammut in years and I didn't realize how much I was missing. This is a great breathable layer, lightweight but still keeps you warm for the approach.

These jackets are a must. Super portable to carry in case of wind and showers while on a multi-pitch climb in the mountains..

Great jacket for just about any sport activity! My favorite pet is the hood. Fits well over head, hat, helmet and also when not in use doesn't flap around hitting the back of my head at inopportune times. Highly recommend this piece.
