Nordwand Light Mid GTX Boot

When you your heel sinks into Mammut's Norwand Light Mif GTX Boot, and you pull those double-zoned laces tight, you know you're ready to rock the ice. The Nordwand Light stretches to fit your foot and is completely crampon compatible, so every time you sink your toes into the icy wall, you'll feel comfortable and confident. The raised rubber rand keeps this boot on tight so you won't lose your shoes to frigid cracks.

The Nordwand Light is easy to slip on, so your hands can stay warm in gloves while you ready yourself for the rest of your cold expedition. The GORE-TEX insulated liner will keep all the loose slush away from your toes and keep your ankle and foot warm so frostbite won't be what you remember from your trip.

Great boot.

I saw these boots in Chamonix in 2017 at the Mammut store. I was super intrigued and have been wanting to purchase a pair since then. With the great price, I finally did. If I had to repack for spending time in the Alps again, I would definitely bring this boot for the higher elevation climbs where crampons are necessary. I think this boot will be a great boot for Rainier during the summer months and other lower elevation climbs during the winter elsewhere. For Shasta, Hood and Baker it would be an awesome boot where a heavier mountaineering boot can be overkill, especially for the approach. I saw so many cool boots while in Europe and the Europeans definitely have a fast and light mindset in choosing their climbing gear. I prefer the step in crampons more than I do the hybrid ones. This boot having the front toe welt fits my crampons securely just like all my other mountaineering boots. I have thought about the usage of this boot and if I would suggest it to someone who is getting into mountaineering? I would. I would go into detail of why and that it isn't a boot that you will get a really wide seasonal usage out of and you might get turned away from some of the guide companies if you climb with them. They go no matter what the weather is like and they want their clients to almost be in too much of a boot than too little of a boot. It is made to be used in fast approaches but where the need for a technical boot is required. For travel, where your gear needs to be light and not cumbersome, this boot would shine. For the Alps this boot would be awesome, Mont Blanc during the summer for sure. I would also wear this boot for the Matterhorn as well. Ice climbing is another place I could see this boot excelling. It seems Mammut is phasing this boot out of its lineup and I have seen some new boots coming out in 2021 from a few major brands that look really intriguing. But again. For the price, this is a great way to have a really light option for climbing and travel adventures.
