I love these boots. The spring steel shank hits the sweet spot between stiffness and agility. The half tongue thing is a bit weird, I suppose it might add stiffness and waterproof ness, but they are harder to get on. I am at the larger end of things, and that might make a difference. I think the sizing might also run a tad small. The rubberized synthetic upper with a full rand looks durable.

First off: I bought this boot because I wanted high ankle support along with a supportive/protective mid-sole in a light weight package. I have very low volume (but not narrow) feet and went a half-size up compared to all my other shoes. After playing with the lacing (at first, I was lacing the mid-foot too tight); I really like them. Features I really like: 1. Flexible metal plate in mid-foot for side to side support. As well, this should protect against stone bruises on rocky terrain. 2. Lightweight but still robust protection for ankles and feet. This boot's upper is much stiffer than you might expect from the pictures. 3. Simple upper construction: "burrito tongue" at the ankle and one piece in the mid-foot + forefoot. I stood in water + walked in rain and they seem waterproof. Breath-ability will have to be determined in warmer weather. Will likely replace the insoles, but this is common for new boots. A common competitor might be the Arc'teryx Acrux TR and reviews have indicated some weird rubbing due to the upper material and potential for rocks to get in. From initial impressions, I would expect that they will hold up over time. Small complaints: Toe box could be a bit wider and burrito tongue has potential for rubbing.

good boot but not for me

these boots felt great, I live in Northern Illinois and put a few miles in them before my trip to Glacier, Thought they would be perfect. We had a day that did 3000 feet of elevation change down and that;s where my problem started. They really hurt my toes. I tried to adjusts the lacing and correct but couldn't fix it. Boots are hard because everyone's feet are different, and other than lots of down all at once they were great. If you are interested in them try them up just test them on some serious elevation.

They were really hard to put on but after breaking them in they mold to your feet and are easy to put on now. I've done multiple hikes with them and they were put to the real test when I hiked 6 hours in snow ranging 2-6 inches and they stayed dry the whole time. My spikes fit on them like a charm.

Great boot with incredible grip. Break them in a bit before hitting the trail, but once you get them worked in a bit, you'll find them quite enjoyable. Love the wrap-around tongue and the lace locks. The sole is rugged and incredibly grippy. Held well when descending a steep, loose slope. Haven't had to get them wet yet, but I imagine they'll fair just fine. Looking forward to putting more miles on them. Foot is roughly 26.5cm and the size 9 fit perfectly.

I have somewhat of a hiking boot addiction and I have to say that out of all the ones I own, these are my favorite! I was reluctant to purchase them at first because they had few reviews and I had never owned any items from Mammut, but I'm so happy I purchased them! I was looking for something waterproof, but light and breathable for my upcoming trip to the Milford Track and these will be perfect. I've already tried them out and the waterproofing works perfectly. They also fit true to size. I am somewhere in between a 10.5 and an 11 US typically and the 10.5 I purchased were snug but very comfortable as I've broken them in. I've worn them around town in the Arizona heat and although that climate would not be ideal for them, my feet still did not overheat like I would have predicted. I actually like the integrated tongue feature despite my initial hesitation. The look of the boot is also very sleek and attractive as well. This is a very nice moderately priced boot that will be comfortable and durable for a wide range of hiking climates. I give it my full recommendation and will be buying more products from Mammut!

I agree with the previous reviewer, and will emphasize the solidity of this boot compared to my last Adidas Terrex boots which are more like shoes with a high top. It will be interesting to backpack with such a thick hardcore sole, I'm very excited and confident these will hold up a long time. I also have about a 104mm last for my toe-box and these fit perfectly! So keep that in mind if you have a more narrow foot. 100% win IMHO. + No leather ;D

So these have a narrow toe box?

This boot feels really solid and supportive for how light it is. Feels really lively but still protective. Favorite thing is the fit, the tongue is not like a normal boot, Instead it wraps around from the side and there are no pressure points. Well made and looks like it will hold up.
