Convey 3-In-1 HS Hooded Jacket

Life in the mountains is full of constant change. One day you're enjoying some mild fall weather and the next day you're shoveling out your car in two feet of snow. For those who want to stay outside and play in the mountains no matter what the weather says there's the Mammut Convey 3-In-1 HS Hooded Jacket. This versatile jacket features a removable down liner, giving you three-in-one performance for your ever-changing climate. When it's freezing cold and dumping wet snow you can wear the jacket all together for total protection against the weather, and when you're facing some milder cold you can wear the down jacket by itself.

What sets this jacket apart from other 3-in-1's is its 2.5 layer Gore-Tex Shell. Whereas a lot of 3-in-1's feature shells that might be great in winter but are a little clunky the rest of the year, this shell gives you lightweight and breathable waterproofing all year round. You can take this jacket as a shell on warm and wet hikes and give yourself some extra ventilation with the zippered underarm vents, and keep out cool spring rains with the adjustable hood. Both the liner and the shell feature zippered hand pockets, and the liner boasts an internal security pocket for safe storage of phones, wallets, and other valuables. And if you get caught rocking the down liner without a shell in snowy weather, you'll be protected thanks to its Durable Water Repellent (DWR) coating.

Liner runs small

This jacket was almost the exact thing I was looking for. The shell is light and has a great fit. The problem is with the liner. It runs small in the shoulder armpit area.

A few improvements away from perfection

The jacket handled snow and sleet just fine, it's so warm I only needed the shell for walking from building to building. That said, improvements could be made to how the liner attaches to the shell. I'm sure the three snaps are sufficient, but it feels flimsy, and some kind of zipper would be well-placed. Still, really like the jacket!

Very Versatile Jackef

This product is very versatile in all winter conditions, I chose this jacket because of the 3 in 1 system. I like it more than other similar jackets because the shell is just that - a shell, gore-tex and nothing more. I tend to run hot and the ventilation on the shell kept me at a comfortable temperature on winter hikes in the Tetons and on the summit of Mt. Washington. When I stopped to take a break I would switch to the puffy version to contain my heat when immobile. The shell also works very well in the wind and rain, it has never soaked through and I barely felt the wind.

Jacket for all weather

I have been wearing this jacket for a couple months now and it great in all conditions. I wore it in a snow storm in the backcountry and stayed warm and dry and on a warm blue bird corn skiing day just as a shell. I love the vents on the shell and the down looks good just wearing around town. I would have giving it 10 out of 10 if the main zipper didn't catch on the fabric cover periodically.

I did not realize that Mammut only uses left handed zippers in their jackets which they explained is for belaying....problem is I don't climb and if I did I would use my left hand for belaying since I am left handed! And this jacket is not a 3 in 1. The two layers do not zip together. You have to zip the insulation layer and then the shell. Not sure the shell would hold up to walking near raspberries let alone bushwhacking through the stuff I go through while hunting, fishing, or hiking. And they do not take returns when ordered through third party sites so my daughter is enjoying my Mammut learning experience

Would absolutely recommend. Things to know though

The sizing is a bit off. I'm 5'9 and 198 lbs. the jacket is way too tight in the shoulders and chest. It has a bit more of athletic fit than I want. I like to do a bit more layering than the jacket allows. Fitting a bulky hooded sweater under is a bit of a chore. I should have purchased an XL. That being said, the jacket stretches very well with my movements and it's very well made. You can feel the quality in the materials. I wouldn't ware it if I'm in below 0 temps and stationary, say while ice fishing, but if I'm moving around, like while shoveling, it's perfect. Good job Mammut. Leave a bit more room though.
