Another Interesting Show from Mammot

Familiarity:
I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
Size Bought:
10
Weight:
220

I haven't had these on the trail yet. This review is based on putting the shoes on and walking around the house. I'm a "big guy." I'm pretty demanding when it comes to shoes. Also my feet pronate, so my shoes do not wear evenly. That in mind, I need soles that will stand the test of time. This is my second pair of Mammot shoes. I had some hesitation buying these because the other shoes have a really small toe box, which is great if you're bouldering or climbing around, but not so great if you're hiking 10 miles to get to the bouldering. They are very stiff as well. But these shoes looked so cool, I couldn't pass them by. Initial thoughts: there's nothing to say but that these shoes are unusual. The pictures are somewhat misleading, in that they make these shoes look like your average pair of day hikers. However, having them in my hands and putting them on, they seem capable of much more. First, while the shoes have laces, they are more for visual effect than necessity. These shoes literally wrap around my feet. When I "tighten the laces," only the first eyes tighten to snug the shoes around my lower ankle, almost sealing them. It's like my feet are in a glove. I'll double knot these on the trail. The good news: the toe box is like standard hikers. These shoes fit as advertised: a 10 is a 10. The "different" news: the soles are really stiff, much like my other pair of Mammots. Also like my other Mammots, they have great arch support, but they feel like they have very little cushioning. Because they fit so snuggly, you're probably not getting a pair of insoles in them. I think your feet need to be in good shape to wear these - few calluses, no corns or blisters, well trimmed toe nails, etc. I would not be afraid to wear these while carrying a 25-pound pack. The support is that good, if you don't need ankle support. However, you're not going to turn an ankle because of these shoes. I'm wearing medium weight wool sox at the moment. Time will tell as I wander around the house, but my inclination is these socks are too heavy for a perfect fit. Also, the Mammots seem to run on the warm side. The shoes feel very well balanced... and because of that, lighter than advertised. That's a big plus for me. I'll update my review, if I decide to keep these. Like every pair of shoes I've ever bought, the jury doesn't vote until after the crime is committed. ...and they do look cool as hell.

Love them, tiny problems

Familiarity:
I've used it several times
Size Bought:
10
Height:
6' 1"

I love these shoes. They are perfectly comfortable, warm, and waterproof. Also super grippy, and the rigidity of the sole is just right. The sizing is right too. Tiny problems are: (1) the green color is not the best, it looks like a military gear, which I don't particularly like, (2) the laces wore out and broke after two weeks of wearing, so I had to buy a new pair of laces - bought orange laces trying to tackle the first problem :)
