Our Favorite Base-Layer for Kids
- Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
We picked up a pair of the LuvMother Everyday base-layers for our two daughters because we wanted a lightweight merino wool set to replace their polyester blend ones and have been incredibly impressed. The girls are also in love with them and almost refuse to take them off. They've been wearing them not only as a base layer for playing in the snow and going to school, but also as pajamas and as their around home garb to play in.
We've been wearing these constantly for quite some time and there are several aspects of the base-layers that are worth highlighting here.
First, they are super lightweight but still very warm. We initially thought they might be a touch thin, but in the end our girls said they were warmer than their much bulkier polyester ones. This translated to them loving them so much more and not begging to take them off immediately after any activity like their other ones. We took them camping recently and they were comfortable even as the temps got into the low 30's.
Second, the fit is excellent. Our children our not too skinny but are definitely slim and these fit perfectly. We've had trouble in the past with base-layers being too large width wise and often short. These fit with a more slim trim and are a bit longer than your average. Exactly what we've been asking for.
And finally, they look good in the pics on the Backcountry site, but look even better in person. We were taken back at how good they look, and we even let the girls wear them out to dinner after camping recently and were asked where we got them because another parent loved them so much.
Overall, I don't think their is a better base-layer on the market for kids.
