Great Comfort, No Durability
I love these boots, but after less than 70 miles of hiking they have already lost significant rubber and the ankle has a large tear in it!

Off to a Good Start
I have had these boots for 2 weeks. Thus far, I am very satisfied. Out of the box, the boots are both stiff and light. I had a slight pinch at the base of my pinky toe. I have hiked 7 miles in these boots over 2 days while carrying a 40 pound pack. The pinch has vanished and the boots are breaking in excellently. I particularly like the stability of the heel. I will try to remember to update this review after I put some more miles on them.

Just got them last friday. Wore them 3 days. Chunks of rubber sole tore off just from light hiking. Not satisfied considering they're $200+. I hope back country has a return policy. Verified buyer

Needed a light and rugged pair of boots for hiking the lower Niagara river gorge trails. After some research, I decided on the Lowa Zephyrs. Well made, no break in required, excellent sole grip, and lots of complements.

I've used this boot hiking and at the gun range running drills. I must say this is a worth it buy.

This is my 6th pair of these boots. It’s all I wear, unless I’m forced to dress up. Then I still wear them. Started wearing these in 2013 and was immediately impressed with the fit. They are a “stiff” boot, but stiff in a good way. Comfortable, extremely durable, I have put in 5 miles a day, off trail walking for a month, and they excelled. I have arthritis in my big toe because of an accident. I’m supposed to limit the bending of this toe, but I still need to climb steep canyon walls. These boots provide the stiffness I need to climb without further damaging the toe. The wrap around sole is a huge benefit to climbing and walking off trail. It’s a great boot.

Great boot for hiking, the retention system is great and the souls are great for most long hikes with weight.

Super durable waterproof boot that are great for trekking around the mountains and can also be worn in casual winter days. Stiff at first, and broke in within 3 wears. Keep feet warm and comfortable. My husband loves them!

Lightweight and supportive boots, but cannot recommend due to poor durability. Plenty of sole left in the boots, but have to replace because the stitching ripped on the inside toe-box in the same spot both boots. The seams completely unstitched near ankle on one boot as well.

comfort, but at a trade off.
I have had two different pairs. One gtx and the other not. They both don't breathe well and wear hot, so just get the gortex. They fit well and are super comfortable. Now the cons with both sets. The soles are injection molded and not durable, every set I have seen the soles wear through inside of 18 months. I have worn through the tread and into the midsole on two sets. Lowa can't resole them, so once your through or wear the tread, they are done... I won't spend 200$ on boots that can't be rebuilt or won't last. I'm pretty much a super user of these and have worn them extensively in most terrain and weather types.

This review may be a little long, so for my TLDR friends out there: These boots are worth every penny! For those who want some more details, I can tell you that I purchased these boots because I needed a new waterproof (Gore Tex) boot. These are the first boots I have ever owned that did NOT need a break in period. Originally these were intended for use when I would be in the field for work. I found myself looking for excuses to wear these all the time, they are that comfortable. I am usually a running shoe guy for casual dress. I now own a second pair of these boots to wear with my casual clothing. They surpass my Saucony's that I get at my local runnning store (where they fit the shoes to the runner) in both comfort and utility. Two warnings in regards to these boots: One, they are Gore-Tex lined, they will only breath so much. Two, if you are like me you will likely end up buying a second pair.

2185 miles on two pairs
I wore these boots on a thru hike of the Appalachian trail. I know how to keep my feet right, but this is the first and only pair of boots I've ever worn that I NEVER once blistered. My only negative is that the original insoles are only good for about 700-800 miles before they disintegrate. Most stock insoles are tossed anyways, but I preferred the factory insole as opposed to expensive insoles. These boots are SO light, and provide ample stability and support. I carried a +40 lb. pack at its heaviest and these boots kept me surefooted. My first pair was good for 1289 trail miles before the sides blew out, the tread was finished, and my feet hurt more than usual. Of course, this was after PA which is notorious for its rocks. I am sure they would have lasted longer if I could have taken better care of them, but hiking the AT is not exactly nice treatment for footwear. The second pair was good for about 900 miles or so, or the rest of the trail. There is practically no break in time for these boots and I transitioned from the beat ones to the new ones seamlessly. As far as "waterproof," in a jungle, nothing is waterproof. If you are doing miles in the rain, your feet will inevitably end up wet. At least they dry fast in the sun, and can be put on frozen. Absolute perfection for long distance, all-weather hiking.

Rock makes 'em cry - 8 mo. old
Just be aware that if you'll be hiking often on mostly ROCKY terrain, these guys may not hold up for more than 1 season. Burns me that I paid this price and didn't get more life, but the desert will do that to ya.

Yep, they start to look like that too when you wear through the soles with normal use too... can't be repaired like with a vibram sole

Buying a second pair was a wise choice!
Lowa you messed up by changing this model! These are favorite boots that I've ever owned. I have operated in these boots for almost two and a half years now...yes, over two years with the same boot...in Germany (all over western/eastern Europe in general) and now in the Hindu Kush Mountain System and these boots have carried every step of the way!! The Gore-Tex has held up great and the construction of the boot itself is superb. A few months ago I scoured the internet to find another pair of the Brown version in my size (not on Backcountry.com unfortunately) as a backup, because I know these will eventually be walked out of. Hasn't happened yet, but I imagine that it's inevitable. I initially bought these after testing these and a pair of Asolo?s. The Lowa toe-box agreed with me more, so I went with them and haven?t looked back since. One of the best footwear purchases I?ve ever made!!!!! I mean it.

Great fitting boot
I bought this boot used in 2008 and took it on several trips every year as well as using it for a winter work boot. The rubber sole finally broke down in 2012. Extremely light.

My first 11 miles
Best boots I ever had, hit the Santa Cruz mountains for the first 11 miles and boots feel great out of the box. Please spend money on a good hiking socks too.
