    Renegade GTX Mid Boot

Lowa has upgraded its popular Women’s Renegade GTX Mid Hiking Boot with a new Monowrap frame construction that not only reduces the boot’s weight but also improves its stability for even greater comfort on your weekend hikes. Combined with a women’s-specific last and a stiffer shank for extra support, the Renegade GTX is ready for miles of hiking on anything from gravel roads to boulder-strewn backcountry trails.
    • Monowrap construction utilizes polyurethane injected around the sides of the shoe to wrap the foot in a lightweight, comfortable and supportive frame
    • Gore-Tex liners seal out moisture while allowing water vapor to escape so you can ford streams and slog through mud with dry feet
    • Climate Control System allows air to enter the lining while the walking movement pumps heat and moisture out
    • Vibram Vialta outsole offers confidence-inspiring traction on mixed terrain
    • Item #LOW0119

    Ultra comfortable

    • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

Bought theses for my lady and this is what she had to say “Not only do they look awesome but are super comfortable. Didn’t even need to break them in before doing a 10 mile hike”

    Awesome Boot

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I wore a similar pair for well over 15 years & LOVE LOVE LOED them into the ground. Waterproof, fairly breathable & very comfy - inherited bunions over the years & desperately wanted a new pair to work. Afraid toe box not quite roomy enough & worried seam may hit top of bunion on right foot & cause issues. Hesitant & Sad to return

Best Hiking Boot I Ever Had

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I just tried my boots for the first time in a 4.5 hour hike which was steep and very rugged and rocky. I was kind of worried because most hiking boots require or need some break-in period. Not these. These are the most comfortable boots with absolutely no break-in period required. They stuck to the rockface very well, and provided very good ankle support. The fit was spot on for me, so I would say they run true to size.

    Best Hiking Boot!

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I tried on over 15 pairs of hiking boots while shopping and was so excited to find these. As soon as I put them on my foot I knew they were the ones! The Renegades have a perfectly snug fit, great support, and are built to be bombproof. The price tag was a bit intimidating but these will hold up for years to come. I am an 8 and they fit true to size.

    Best Hiking Boot!

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Finally! A boot that doesn't cramp my style, adventure, or foot. These are supportive and durable. I suggest sizing up a tad bit for the sake of not having crammed toes and being able to wear thicker socks. Great at regulating foot temp. These have been way nice for me especially cause I am the queen at rolling my ankle, and boy have these renegades saved me from some sprains and twists.

I love the boot, just not for me

I love the construction of this boot. It is light, cute, and comfy! I ordered a 7 and a 7.5. I found that I am literally right inbetween the two sizes! I even tried multiple socks with them. The 7 was a little tight on the top of my foot, the 7.5 was perfect but my heel slipped. I wish they would have worked out for me, but I had to go with a different boot.

      Must Have Boot

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times

LOVE LOVE LOVE THEM!! I needed a good pair of boots to use on longer more strenuous hikes. These are definitely the boots for that! They are soo supportive and perfect for those long hikes. I love that they have everything; Gore-Tex, Vibram soles, and leather! They look awesome and perform well! I have used them on many hikes, varying in distance, level and heat. They have preformed well on all of them! They keep me dry. My feet don't feel too hot in them when it is hot, and they also do a good job of keeping my feet comfortable in the cold. They have great support and help keep your feet from getting to tired. I love the look of them and couldn't be more happy with my purchase!!

The fit on them was also great! They fit me true to size. There was plenty of room to spare, so my toes don't hit the front when hiking and have room to swell when it is hot. The toe box is roomy and feels comfortable. I had enough room for a hiking sock as well. If you are on the cusp I would recommend sizing up! You really don't want your toe to hit the front, that makes for an unpleasant hike!

Really nice boots, but not for me

      • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it

I had my eye on these boots for some time, but sellers never have my size (7.5M) available. So when Backcountry had a pair, I had to snatch them up. I'm looking to replace my current Merrells that are showing signs of wear (treads balding) after 700+ miles. I use these mostly for long (10-20 miles) day hikes in the mountains in mild weather (New England in summer, Southern California in winter).
Unfortunately, I had to return these. They are great-looking boots, and the fit is spot-on, true to size with a roomy toe box & supportive footbed. But the claimed light weight spec of 709g per pair (12.5 oz per shoe) is just way off (I knocked one star off for this error). These are actually a lot heavier than the 13.5 oz each of my current boots, with a measured weight of over a pound each (18.25 oz per shoe, or 1035g per pair for size 7.5M). That excess weight , coupled with the very stiff ankle collars, would just slow me down and cause more fatigue for my intended use. I already have taller insulated hiking/snowshoeing boots for cold weather, and stiff-support boots for heavier backpacking, both pairs with a lot of miles left in them, so unfortunately I don't have a use for the Lowas. I also recently replaced my low hiking shoes (at 1000+ miles) with lighter-weight trail runners, and immediately noticed significant improvement in my pace, so I know weight really does make a big difference.

      Hey Louise,
Thank you so much for your feedback. I am sorry these boots didn't work out for you. If you have any further questions about any other hiking boots or need a suggestion I would be more than happy to help you.

      Thanks again,

      GF Loves!

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I purchased these for my girlfriend. She says they are the comfiest hiking boots she has ever had! Lots of support while still being burly but flexible. They are true to size. She is looking forward to doing some longer hikes and backpacking in them, and see what they are like in hot temperatures.

      True Love

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Lowa has the most comfortable stiff boot out there. The foot bed frame and support allows you to trek with a heavy pack for many miles without fatigue. Lowa uses the Monowrap Construction which cradles your foot and remains rigid. The addition of Gore-Tex allows the wearer to tromp through anything without pause. Waterproof and windproof allows the wearer to use these boots in all seasons, so winter camping is a breeze, with the right socks of course. Teaming up with vibram gives these boots the added traction that other boots may not have.
I usually wear a 6.5 in shoes. In backpacking boots i always recommend to purchase a half size above normal street shoes to allow for swelling and thicker socks.

      So Comfy!

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times
      • Fit: True to size
      • Size Bought: 7

I've been hesitant to purchase new hiking boots because I've always hated how heavy and clompy my boots have been in the past. But after talking with a couple of Backcountry employees, I decided to give the Renegades a chance--and I love them!

Feel: They're super lightweight and don't feel clompy at all. They're ready to wear right out of the box (I hiked 20 miles the first time I wore them and didn't have any problems). The fit is snug, comfortable , and true to size. A high ankle offers plenty of support for long days carrying heavy loads.

Performance: I wore these shoes on the Mist Trail during peak runoff and while my friend's feet got wet, mine stayed dry and comfortable thanks to the Gore-Tex liner. The Vibram sole also made a huge difference on the slick trail.

      Living Like We're Renegades...

      • Fit: True to size
      • Size Bought: 9.5

Bought these boots in the Stone color 9.5. The boots come in narrow sizes, which is perfect for me since I have a very narrow heel and supple arch. My heels always slip in boots, but the Renegade's secure fit locks down my heels well, and without having to lace them uncomfortably tight! The lacing provides a snug but comfortable fit. I wanted a boot that would be supportive and able to handle anything I could throw at it: I have used these boots for hiking, scrambling, fishing (loving the gortex), and horseback riding.

The full grain leather is very durable. I use them frequently to scramble up boulders and rocky trails and they don't show a scratch! I have put at least 50 miles on the boots so far, and aside from a healthy coating of dirt, they look new. The gortex works great; I've waded in water several times and not had a single drop come through.

The Vibram sole is super sticky on rock, which is great for securing footing when scrambling or hiking on slick rock. Even descending wet rock is easy in these boots! I am so confident in their traction that they were my boot of choice for tackling the famously exposed trail of Angel's Landing in Zion National Park. And they were perfect; I watched those in lesser shoes lose their footing frequently throughout the day. I have yet to find a surface these boots will slip on!

The boots are very comfortable, and just seem to get better with every mile!

I've used these boots on my backpacking trips during my summer in YNP. Whether it's traversing over mountain ranges or crossing through rivers & creeks , these boots really get the job done. I sized up half a size and the fit was perfect, had no need to break them i either.

      Great all-around hiking boot!

I love these hiking boots! I have hiked in the Appalachian mountains of VA and Black Mountains of NC in these boots without any issues and no break-in period needed. As for the Gore-tex lining and waterproof abilities, I took these boots with me to Mt. Rainier park in WA to go snowshoeing this past May. They held up great! I wore REI liner socks with Darn Tough wool hiking socks and my feet stayed dry and mostly warm.
Personally, I am pretty impressed with these boots and will certainly buy from Lowa again!
For size reference, I wear a size 9 street shoe, I do not have wide feet but am "flat footed"/over pronator, and a 9.5 was a perfect fit for layering socks! My only complaint would be the lack of arch support and cushioning of the soles, but by no means are these boots uncomfortable, just a personal preference!

      Love them!

I have NEVER been able to find boots that fit me properly. I wore them today for the first time and they are a fit! They are light, great walking up/down on steep rocks. Just love them. I ordered 1/2 size larger than my regular shoe size.

      LOVE these boots!

I was initially attracted to the color (not shown for purchase, but mine are purple with hot pink laces). When I started getting into the grit of it, they seemed like a really great buy! Most of the boots for women on the shelves looked hideous.

The fit is snug, like a glove. Its definitely very true to size. These boots have a super soft leather on the inside and out, so I put them on and backpacked a 25mi trip without even having to break them in. No blisters, no loosening up, nothing. It was like I had been wearing them for years (in a good way!)

The high angle is great for support too especially when carrying extra weight on your back, and for if you ever mis-step and twist your ankle, they really have a lot of good support to prevent sprains.

      WEAR & TEAR

So these are AMAZING because they are very durable- Vibram soul and GoreTex coating... so when I'm backpacking I can step right in a creek and not care about anything. Up to the brim and not a drop even stays on the boot! Its great! The boots before these I had accidentally slipped and dipped my foot right in the water... for the next two days I had to wear heavy wet socks and it caused all kinds of problems on my skin. Never have to worry about that again though!

They are also SUPER light, which makes such a world of difference. Its like walking on clouds :)

Initially, since these have a nice leathery rim on the top inside, they are kinda squeaky :-/ Im hoping once they get more miles on them it gets softer, but about 70 on them now and still a bit noisy.

      Unanswered Question

I'm a geologist looking for a pair of boots that will last for more than half a season. All of the hiking boots I've owned prior to this have fallen apart, and I cant afford to keep buying new ones every year. Unfortunately, I'm not easy on hiking boots, as my research requires me to hike over very sharp rock daily. Any suggestions? Will the Lowa Renegade GTX Mid Boot hold up to long, multi-day field sessions? Please help!

I have problem feet (bunions) and need an extra wide boot/shoe. Can anyone comment on the width and toebox?

I'm still in search of boots for a Philmont...

I'm still in search of boots for a Philmont trek with my son this summer. I tried another pair of boots with a less flexible sole and quite bit heavier but after backpacking in them they were just too klunky and did not fit well. These boots are so comfortable but I worry that the soles are not as rigid as other boots. So my question is: are these boots "Philmont-worthy"?

PS. I weigh 115 lbs, so pack can be at max 35 pounds (i.e., max load will be about 150lbs)

ccop149363: yes these are true to size but I did go up 1/2 size because of the extra thickness from a liner + wool hiking sock.

Now to answer my own question in regards to wearing these boots for Philmont. I did indeed wear them at Philmont and I did like them. However, I did ultimately find them a little heavy for me personally given my size and my max pack weight of 30lbs. When I do Philmont again, I will go for more of a "trail" shoe with ankle support than a backpacking shoe. If you plan to have a heavy pack then highly recommend these boots.
