Urban Cycling Shoe

Sometimes you want to take a casual spin around town without clipping in and other times you'd like to charge down the trail with the confidence-inspiring feel afforded by clipless pedals. That's why Louis Garneau created the Men's Urban Mountain Bike Shoe with the versatility to ride both flats and clipless pedals, regardless if you're exploring back roads, hitting the trail on the weekend, or exploring back roads.

This commuter/mountain bike hybrid shoe features an insert for 2-bolt, SPD-style cleats if you prefer to clip in. However, Louis Garneau places a grippy rubber cover over the cleat inserts, so you can easily wear flats when you're running errands or commuting through the city with your flat pedals. Overall, it provides the best of both worlds and gives you the flexibility for a wide variety of riding disciplines and terrain types, should you regularly transition between trail and town with different pedals on your bikes.

  • Versatile shoe for trail riding and urban commutes
  • 2-bolt, SPD-style cleat inserts for clipless pedals
  • Rubber cover goes over cleat inserts for using flats
  • T-Flex rubber sole allows you to walk off your bike
  • PU leather, mesh upper is breathable and durable

  • Heel retention system keeps foot in place

Poor Quality, Sizing Off

I returned this product before using it
Runs large
Size Bought

Purchased these more to use on for more "casual" occasions, riding to nearby parks to walk around, grocery store runs, work commute, cafe, etc and while I had modest expectations at this price point, these are cheap and they show it. Out of the box, the finishing around the sole is rough and imprecise, I wouldn't expect them to last more than a season. Trying them on the laces are strangely long- perfect for catching on your cranks (not necessarily unique, never understand this on running shoes either!) Putting them on, they are about one full size too large. I wear a 42 in Fiziks, Salomon, and others, 42.5 in La Sportiva, and these seem to fit at a 43-43.5. Different brands but just FYI. The real issue however is the protruding...metal(?) large BB popping out on the interior of the heel. I'm guessing this is part of the "heel-retention system." Ouch. Thankfully Backcountry makes returns pretty straightforward.

Good 2-bolt road shoe

True to size

Wearing these for 18 months, purchased from LBS. My size 12 feet are fairly wide but not enough for a wide size and the size 47 fits fine. They were a little narrow at first when I tried them in the store but they predictably broke in. They are reasonably stiff. I have not experienced “hot spots” but my all-road rides are 30 miles or less. Fairly easy to walk in. The cleat bed is recessed far enough from the tread that lateral float is restricted and I bought cleat spacers from Shimano that resolved this. The cleats are still recessed enough that I can walk carefully on hardwood floors without denting them. The laces are long but when double-knotted and tucked through the elastic loop they’re fine. I can’t imagine traction enough for muddy hillsides, but for a general purpose road shoe I can reasonably walk in for short distances they serve me well and I recommend them.

Nice, but really narrow.

Nice looking shoes. Couldn't believe how narrow they were.
