    Old dog, new tricks.

The laces, fluo color scheme, and high-gloss uppers on Louis Garneau's Signature 84 men's Shoes combine the contemporary aesthetics of modern cycling shoes with an apparently old-school closure system. We write "apparently" because the six points of contact provide twice the fit adjustment options as the traditional ratcheting or wire buckle with two hook-and-loop straps. If that level of customization is old school, then we suggest that the new school has some learning to do.

The Signature 84's Ergo Air Carbon Composite outsole is equally advanced, consisting of a carbon platform that places a scant 4.3mm of stiff, efficient material between your feet and the pedals, further reducing the already low number of watts lost to material deflection. The outsoles also feed air into the shoe via LG's multi-vent system, and interchangeable Cool Stuff and Hot Stuff insoles let you control the internal temperature based on external conditions. At the heel, the shoes are finished with an internal system to anchor your foot and an external hit of reflectivity.

This is my first pair of lace up cycling shoes, I've been a cyclist for 15 years; mountain and road with some racing. Long story short is that these are incredibly comfortable and light; the power transfer is as expected due to the stiff carbon sole. I was definitely leery of the laces when purchasing but decided to pull the trigger. The main reason I did was the 6 points of contact with the laces versus a boa or a buckle. They cradle my feet perfectly and I can tighten them or loosen them to my exact preference. I have about six rides on them, one of them being a 3-hour group ride with some good elevation. They performed flawlessly and I didn't have to tighten them once. If you get the laces tightened correctly at the start of a ride you do not need to adjust them, it hasn't been an issue for me. I like my shoes snug and have somewhat narrow feet and the 42's fit me perfect. For comparison, I wear Bontrager rxl's 42 and the fit is the same for me. I ordered size 43's at the same time to make sure I got the right fit. The 43's would have worked if I wanted a more roomier feel in the toe box. I settled on the 42s as they were snug and fit just right. I wear a size 9 in regular shoes. CC return policy made the return process easy if you are not sure which size you need. These are an incredible deal for how light they are and the carbon sole. I would recommend these to anyone looking for a top tier shoe.

    Slightly small

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: Runs small

These shoes are slightly smaller than I'd like. They are just okay while wearing thin cycling socks but I'd size up +0.5 (but not a full size) if I were to buy another LG shoe built on their Carbon sole.

    Good value

    • Fit: Runs small

I bought these shoes for their value. They have a stiff carbon fiber sole, interchangeable in soles (winter / summer). My favorite design feature is the material in the heel that allows you to slide into the shoe, but the material prevent heel slip out of the shoe- a nice touch considering I have narrow heels and slide out easily from some shoes. The size runs smaller than my Bontrager shoes. In particular, these shoes are very narrow. If you are familiar with Bontrager sizing I would suggest going up a size. The hi-viz yellow is high contrast and the pictures are accurate. This was important for me since I do a lot of solo miles after work (evening / dusk rides).
