Whatever the weather.
We teamed up with Louis Garneau to create the Louis Garneau Mondo Primo Men's Bib Shorts, trusting Garneau's expertise in functional, durable kit and adding our own Competitive-exclusive graphics atop the clean platform. The combination of a streamlined cut and high-end, weather-resistant fabrics equip the Mondo Primo for rainy day races and long, cool-weather training rides alike, handling the brunt of inclement conditions so you can maintain focus on the task at hand.
The shorts lead into frigid air and light showers with panels of Super Light Dry, a material that blocks wind and repels water in order to protect your core from those two pernicious elements. The lower back is also Super Light Dry, a move meant to limit the effects of rooster tails and ensure that any tail winds are pure benefit. The rest of the shorts' lowers consist of HeatMaxx material, which is a traditional, brushed fleece synthetic that keeps you warm by insulating and managing moisture. All the loft in the world doesn't do any good, so by wicking away sweat and breathing to release water vapor, HeatMaxx protects the gains that it makes by trapping body heat.
The bibs themselves comprise two different meshes, Carbon-X and Power. They emerge from an insulating girdle of yet more HeatMaxx material, but—while your hips and thighs are well-protected—the mesh bibs are lightweight enough to avoid interfering with whatever layering regimen you're observing for the day's conditions. The bibs also feature a short, four-inch zipper in front to help facilitate nature stops, and it terminates in a zipper garage to avoid abrading baselayers or bellies. The bottom of the legs are LG's Powerband cuffs, which gently grip without the pinching and bulk of the elastic cuffs of yesteryear.
The included 4Motion chamois combines 3D pre-shaped wings with a deep split at the back that is bridged by vented mesh, increasing breathability and allowing the ischial padding move with you without bunching. The multi-density, perforated memory foam is ergonomically designed with a central channel that relieves pressure on soft tissues during long rides, while the seamless, four-way stretch 4Motion chamois features an anti-odor carbon top sheet and pre-molded wings to add comfort while protecting against inner-thigh chafing.

I bought this bib anticipating cooler weather rides, but we nornally get very little precipitation that isn't of the white fluffy variety here in Colorado. Little did I realize how beneficial this bib would be. I rode in the "Tour of the Moon" in Grand Junction, Colorado on September 30, 2017. As weather can rapidly change in Colorado I brought several versions of kit with me, including this bib. Uncharacteristically, the weather here has been extremely rainy for most of September, and I figured I might need something that could protect me from the elements. I donned the bib, a light Underarmor long sleeve shirt, some wool riding socks and arm and leg warmers (and stuffed my now beloved Costco Paradox hooded rain coat into my shirt pocket. The short version of this story is this--once up in the Colorado National Monument, the weather moved in. First the skies darkened, followed shortly thereafter with booming thunder and jagged lightning bolts. Then came the freezing rain, followed shortly by hail. At this point |I had about 15 more miles to ride. Throughout all, I stayed, warm and as dry as possible under those conditions. I loved this bib--it worked as advertised, keeping rooster tails from riders in front (and much more) from turning me into a cold, wet casualty of the weather. Once last note, lest you think I exaggerate the conditions. One female rider missed a turn on the descent due to conditions and died. Yes, it was that bad.
post script--I normally buy Medium size as I have a 32 inch waist. The large here worked great.
