Matrix 2.0 Neck Warmer
Dressing for a chilly ride can be a dilemma. If you over-clothe, then you've got to strip mid-ride and carry around a bunch of bulk. If you under-clothe, well, it's best not to think about that. We find that the Louis Garneau Matrix 2.0 Neck Warmer strikes the perfect balance, eliminating the over/under-clothed binary with its warmth and flexibility.
Its Matrix 2.0 fabric is laid out in different zones to offer protection from the cold air and breathability to keep you comfortable. It stretches and conforms so you can pull it on easily but it still covers snugly with no extra bulk. The 4-way stretch knit reduces chafing by keeping seams to a minimum, and the grey and black color scheme and understated logo on the jaw mean you won't look like a rolling billboard. Plus, in the (almost inevitable) situation where you start to overheat, you can bunch it down around your neck to cool off without having to stop, remove your helmet, and stuff it into a pocket.
- Balance warmth and comfort with a lightweight warmer
- Matrix 2.0 fabric is laid in zones for targeted protection
- 4-way stretch is easy to pull on, traps in heat without bulk
- Fabric is light and breathable, ushers moisture outwards to dry
- Compact for easy stashing in pockets, or bunching around your neck on the climb
- Item #LGN003L

This neck warmer is too loose, it sags badly while riding, and constantly needs to be readjusted. I use it as a face and neck warmer, pulling it up over either my mouth or my mouth and nose, depending on temperature and wind. The sagging gets worse after riding awhile, as the gaiter gets heavier with moisture from breathing through it. It is very breathable, a plus, but having to constantly readjust it while riding is annoying. I guess that’s an issue with many “one size fits all” items. Update: got the Garneau Matrix Balaclava, great fit, breathable fabric around the mouth and nose, and can be easily pulled down around my chin or neck if temps warm up, a much better choice for me than the neck gaiter.

I recently participated in a very cold(wind chill +5 to -5 deg F) mountain bike time trial. I wouldn't normally come out in such conditions but I was already registered so. This neck warmer did help keep the heat in. Most of the ride I left it loose on top of my jacket so that it covered my neck. At times on descents I'd pull it up over the chin and part of my nose for the protection I needed, my ears were protected by other gear, but this warmer could be pulled up enough to help with that as well. I'll definitely use it more for my windy road rides.

You can use this as more than a neck warmer because it is arguably large and stretches well....so you can ride it over your ears to your chin easily and length is well under collar. Note it still fits loosely on neck so that is unusual for old school me, but it is nicer than I might have thought. If you want you can breathe through it. And it's warm for something lightweight, and length keeps wind out.
