Solid idea, for a small Price
- Familiarity: I've used it several times
A couple of weeks ago I was fishing in a local reservoir with a couple of buddies. It was a slower day with not a lot of action. As time went on, I somehow caught my line on what we thought was a simple snag. As I pulled the line in, I was pleasantly surprised. I hooked myself on someones sunken line and pulled in a new rod... I quickly cleaned it off and after inspection it seemed to be perfectly fine. Later that night I was thinking about how I could restore this rod and make sure that it works for months or even years to come. After some thought, I decided to purchase this reel oil and give the reel a thorough clean and restoration. This oil is simple and easy to use. The bottle is easy to squeeze and the amount dispensed is very easy to control and apply. It is a great product for a small price and I recommend it to anyone looking to restore, maintain or care for their reel. Since using it on the reel that I found, I now use it on all of my reels. Its a magic solution.
Is this essentially the same as gun oil? In what cases would I use this and in what cases would I use gun grease or gun oil?
I believe this lube is optimized for use with fly reels. That being said I know a lot of people use gun oil to grease their reels and so far I have not heard of anyone having trouble with a reel lubed with gun oil.
Personally I like to use the lube designed for the job at hand, reel lube for reels and gun oil for guns, but you should be fine using gun oil if you would like.
