Light & Motion is one of the only brands that doesn’t load up its front lights with features and tech while relegating rear lights to the one-trick-pony bin. Case in point: the Vis 180 Pro Rear Light, which combines the usual features—flashing and steady modes—with amber colored sidelights. These increase the range of visibility and also recall the running lights on the cars and trucks we share the road with, reinforcing our status as vehicles by replicating a feature that most road users associate with automobiles.

The light can also be set to paceline mode, which turns off the red but leaves on the amber. Just what was needed, part 2.

Like the VIS 700, I like this product as I don't think about it. The Safepulse feature just plain makes sense as an alternative to too bright or too low light bothering riders behind me (not many find themselves in that position). Really like that feature. I struggled with attaching the light to the back seat post at first but once set it is fairly simple getting it on and off. All in all a very good light and the long lasting charge makes the light a must have for me.

I went with this light for its high output, long run times, and brand reputation. I mainly use it for day safety, and use the high SafePulse setting for most rides, and the medium setting for really long rides…not much dropoff in brightness and really long battery life. For night I use the solid mode. Mounting is easy which is nice since I switch it between two bikes.

Great light until it stopped working after 3 years of use. Simply stopped working.

Long Lasting and Dependable!

This is my third light of this version. They seem to last somewhere around four to five years. Each one has been a little better than the last. I do notice the models have changed some of the flash modes. I like the variety. Even the lowest setting gives plenty of bright light to make drivers notice me. Last winter, I was stopped one afternoon and asked by a another rider what kind of light I had on my seat post. He had noticed me riding for years and liked the brightness the light gives off. I have been riding for over thirty years. There's a good reason I continue to buy this Light and Motion product.

Terrible mount design and strobe options

The mount involves a rubber strap with holes, like a belt. On my standard seat post, the tightest I could make the strap without breaking wouldn't stop the light from moving on the seat post. That's partially because the rubber on the mount itself isn't very big or particularly spongy/grippy. More frustrating than that, the light doesn't release from the mount without taking the whole mount off the seat post. Which effectively means every time you charge the light you have to unhook the strap unless you happen to have a USB cord long enough to reach the bike. Why didn't they make a quick release so that the light can easily detach? My riding partners noted that the red light is always on. That's not quite true, but they are correct that the light is on for several second before it strobes once briefly, or in another setting it throbs very slowly with relatively little difference between full bright and dimmest. The effect is that there's very little dynamic element in any of the available strobing patterns which I think diminishes the effectiveness. Battery life suffers too, less than what is rated. Fail, very disappointing, hence returned. Thank you to CC though for great customer service and return policy as usual.

Eric here with Light & Motion. This reply is probably too late to help Garrett, but may help others considering this light. The unit should be solid and secure on the seatpost. Mine takes quite a bit of sideways force to move it just slightly out of position…I tried it on a carbon and an aluminum post. There is a friction pad on the mount that goes up against the seatpost…possibly the pad came off or was missing? The light comes off the mount easily, but the illustration on the package may not make the operation totally clear. First, the angle between light and seatpost needs to be closed completely: Push the red pivot lock button and close the angle, pushing the light in until it is up against the mount and post. Now the light will slide off with upward pressure, but you must also be pressing in on the lower half of the light. So push straight in on the light below the Light & Motion script as you slide it up and off. The first 2 modes are SafePulse High and SafePulse low. These should appear exactly the same, but with high being 150 lumens and low 125. The beam makes a varying pulse in intensity every 1.5 seconds and emits a strobe pattern every 5 seconds. The third mode is solid at 150 lumens. The paceline mode lights only the side markers and some riders like this in groups or on trails.
