    Seeing is believing.

You stuff carrots down your gullet all day, but your night vision will never actually improve enough to rival the Light & Motion Urban 850 LTD Barfly Combo Headlight. When the streetlights don’t cut it anymore, the Urban 850’s namesake 850 lumens provide an ultra-smooth beam that’s designed to improve depth perception and peripheral vision, so you’re not surprised by deeper-than-they-look potholes or encroaching curbs. Three beam settings allow to you conserve battery life, and the IP67 waterproof certification will keep the Urban 850 safe in one meter of water for 30 minutes—good luck finding a rainstorm that heinous, though.

A great light deserves a great mount, so Light & Motion teamed up with Barfly to ship the light with the SLi handlebar mount, which promises never to slip, fall off, or otherwise compromise your light, even if you spend the ride home catching air off speedbumps. The SLi can also hold a GoPro, and there’s an included helmet mount if you want your light to move with your head.

    Works with my setup

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I needed a new light. With some L&M lights being on sale I ended up getting this one and the Urban 800. This comes in the usual L&M tube packaging, but with the addition of the Barfly.

The light is nice. The beam pattern is good. It's very similar to the Urban 800 that I also bought. The light comes with the regular rubber strap mount as well, so if you end up not liking the Barfly there are other ways to mount the light. The USB port protector hasn't broke off yet (like it did on my Urban 800 first day I got it) but I'm sure it will soon. I will simply use a piece of electrical tape over the USB jack when it does

I do like the Barfly. I have a Banjo Brothers bag on my stem for my phone and wallet, but I wanted the light centered. The Barfly allows me to do this. I do not use a computer, so I have nothing that needs to mount to the top of the Barfly. That's ok though because my phone bag blocks it anyways.

The light is upside down when mounted on the Barfly. Some L&M lights (like the white Urban 800) have the battery indicator in the power button. But, with this light the battery indicator is a small dot on the back of light, so you can still see the battery indicator if the light is mounted upside down on the barfly.

I ride at night, so I use this light to see in the dark rather than to be seen in daylight. I use the middle setting most of the time as I've found 850 lumens is more than I need. Being that I use the middle setting the battery life is pretty good. Brightest setting I can't tell much difference, if any, between this 850 and the Urban 800 that I also bought.

    Fine But

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

The light itself is great, but would have preferred an easier way to detach the light from the mount when I lock my bike to a post and want to take the light with me. This product requires a screwdriver to take the light off (the mount stays on). Would be better if it were just a tab or something that didn't require a tool to take off.

    Barfly Not Compatible

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Very happy with the light and the performance of the light. The barfly did not work on any of the 2 mountain and 2 road bikes I own. It's a great concept but needs more spacers and options to mount securely to the handlebars. The space where I could get the barfly mounted has a slight taper and the entire unit came loose within 30 minutes of riding. I went back to my Garmin GPS mount and used the handlebar mount that came with the light. I would either save the money or put the same dollars to a higher output light.

    Perfect front end bike light!

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

The adjustable arm and pivot at the base of the light make this light perfect for changing conditions and easy to adjust on the fly. I can turn the light left or right, as well as up and down easily. The light itself is unbelievably bright with a number of different lighting options.

    clean look and great light

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Its a great light. Even at the lowest setting visibility is better than good. I installed this in minutes and couldnt be happier with the quality of the material and the clean look.

    Update:

I replaced my forks, handlebars, and stem. When I removed the mount, it's a very small metric hex pan head, it was easily rounded out. I've ended up replacing the OEM bolt with a m4-0.7 x 20 mm pan head (Phillips) in stainless steel and it looks great. I was worried about the finished look and it's just as nice as the original.

    clean look and great light
    Unanswered Question

Will the light run/work while being charged by an external battery source?
