    Urban 500 Headlight

The Urban 500 Headlight is a slim, low-profile light that puts out 500 lumens via a Cree LED bulb, so you can see where you're going and other people can see you coming. Four modes give you the appropriate illumination for any condition, and the seriously water-resistant casing can withstand being submerged one meter deep for up to half an hour, so you can turn your bike into a short-range pedal-powered submarine if you really want to.

Too early to post full review = initial

So far this unit does not appear to last for a full ride. I use mine in daylight. Did a 4 hour ride Christmas day and the light was off upon completion. Have used other lights that work on AAA batteries and they last multiple 5-6 hour rides.

Useless after 2 charges and bad design

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Disappointed to find that this won't charge at all after 2 cycles of use, and I'm out of my 30-day warranty so can't get my money back.

Besides that, the settings are strange. It shines at a few different brightness levels, and one that just barely pulses. What's the point? A flashing mode should be an obvious option.

Last thing, it's pretty difficult to do and undo the strap. I would prefer if it had a quick release option from the strap itself, so I can easily remove it when I lock my bike up.

I genuinely would not recommend this product.

I bought Light &Motion Urban 500. The price of the light:
        1. Light : $39.99 (on sale from $49.99)
        2. Tax : 4.02
        3. Shipping: 5.95
        TOTAL: $49.96
I opened, charged but never been used or installed on my bike. Returned the light couple of days from the date I received. I printed out their ups returning shipping label and agreed with the deduction of $6.99 from the principal for this returning shipping label.
Here I got the refund from
        1. Totally paid: $49.96
        2. Previous sale tax: -4.02
        3. Tax for returned the light: $2.89 (tax from $39.99)
        4. Previous shipping: -$5.95
        5. Returned shipping: -$6.99 (I agreed)
        I paid: $49.96
        They refunded: $39.99 + 2.89 (tax from 39.99) = $42.88
and deducted the returned shipping: $42.88 - 6.99
AND I RECEIVED MY REFUND 2 weeks later IN MY BANK with only $35.89 (I bought an item with $49.96, returned it brand new to them, they got the item, I lost $14.07)

        Nice light

What I really like about this light above others is the small retaining screw that holds the light in the bracket once it's mounted, a small but important addition in my view. I have had other lights which literally bounced out of the bracket. The light is well made and solid construction, makes it a little heavier than some other brands.
The reason I gave it a 4 not 5 is the battery life, I found the light burned through battery life quite quickly especially on full power.

          Pretty bright

          • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I got this light for my bar bike and it works great! super bright light with a bunch of modes to adjust it. If you're planning on biking at night this is a solid option!

          Great light

This light has the power to let drivers know you're there, and to illuminate obstacles in your path. There was even the option to pick a colorway that matched my bike. Form and function are both covered. The only downside is the battery life, but if you need brightness then that's the price you pay. Charging is easy so it's not a problem.

Light & Motion Urban 500 Headlight

            • Familiarity: I've used it several times

This light is bright and powerful. It is an amazing light for a great price and I feel safe on the roads with it. It is easy to put on and take off your bike. Great headlight!

            Safety First

            • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

This thing is bright! I feel much safer on the road at night and in the morning since I've purchased this. Easy to install and easy to remove when you're leaving your bike locked outside. The only complaint I have is that the battery life leaves a bit to be desired.

Awsome light that packs a punch

            • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Wow, I was blown away at how bright this little lite puts out. It light weight and charges up very quickly as well as hold it charge for longer then the competition. Great pick up for anyone that wants some bang for your buck.

Great light for a great value

            • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I was super excited to get this light for my commuter bike. It has more light output than the little stinger combo I was using and comes in a light and sleek style.
This was super easy to install on the handlebars and provided a lot of light while i was out late at night. Unfortunately it was easy to remove and was stolen off my bike. Definitely going to get another one but planning to remember to take it off each time I lock up my bike.

Very functional and easy to use.

            • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Very solid bike light for the price. The light has a wide and bright beam, which are my primary concerns. Charging is easy, and switching between modes is very simple.

The description says "handlebar/helmet mount", which I interpreted to mean that the light would be compatible with both. It only comes with the handlebar mount, but you can buy a helmet adapter for $10. I thought that was a bit deceptive considering it was one of the reasons I chose this light. I suppose any light can be helmet adaptable with some duct tape.

Overall, I'm happy with the light and would recommend it.

            Great Battery Life & Projection

            • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I originally bought this light for commuting around town as I wanted a high quality light that would make me easily visible to vehicles. It mounts quickly, offers outstanding side visibility, and great battery life (with battery life signal on the back). I eventually used this light while hiking at night, which was actually worked quite well since the shape of the light with strap is easy to hold in your hand. The beam projection and battery life are what sold me on it though and I use it for hiking all the time now. I wish I could turn off the side markers to extend the battery life further, but they are not bothersome while hiking. Whether I'm riding in the evening hours or chasing daylight down from a long hike in the mountains I always grab this light.

            Suspect battery life

            • Familiarity: I've used it several times

The 500 lumens are awesome. I get a super safe feeling operating with such a high beam on my ride home from wok. That is, when the light works... it's died on me twice on my ride home. THe first time, after three rides (approx 35mins each). So I felt confident it had a 100 minute burn time. The second time it died was after one ride home. That has me concerned.
My wife has been using it for shorter rides and hasn't complained of failure yet. I've swapped hers and mine to make sure she keeps a good charge so I don't think we have a lemon. It could've just been operator error on my part. I may not have charged it as long as needed.

Will keep using it, but just need to be more diligent about keeping a good charge. Excellent light with wide field of view and powerful.
