Water resistant, yes; waterPROOF, no.

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

First off, this bag served me well and I'd recommend it. That said, water resistant is a squishy term open to interpretation. I assumed it would resist a steady shower for 7 hours as long as I didn't ride into a lake or something. Instead I ended up with a lot of wet gear. Now I know. My recommendation: if there's more than 1/4 inch of rain forecasted, just use a plastic garbage as a "liner" and you'll be fine.

open end bag

It has two ends completely open. Could not figure out how the small items would stay in the bag
