    Some like it haute.

Some skiers are content carving down groomers, having their chairlift swept free of snow, and sipping hot cocoa between laps, while others feel compelled to chase big lines and deep tracks in wild snow. Forged for the dedicated backcountry skier, the Leki Haute Route Lite SpeedLock 2 Ski Pole is a dependable stick for your backcountry tours. The SpeedLock internal locking feature clamps tightly to secure the pole sections into place, and it's easy to use with gloves on, so you don't have to expose your fingers to adjust your poles. On one end there are rubberized Aergon anatomical grips for comfort and stickiness, and on the other you'll find sturdy carbide tips that serve up solid snow- and ice-piercing performance.

    Typical Leki & priced right

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

These (and their Tour Vario siblings) have preformed flawlessly so far. Light weight, easy to adjust in clumsy mittens and the handle ergonomics are excellent. I'm convinced there is no perfect adjustable pole, so no points lost for the need to tighten the thumb screw now and then. If they collapse during resort use, I'll amend my review : )

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Pros large powder basket, nice grip and adjustable. Cons within the first day I had bent them slightly and the cheap plastic tab for adjusting the poles broke.
