MXZ200 Cycling Shoe

You're not one to turn down a ride just because there's a little snow on the ground, but that doesn't mean your toes should have to freeze. Don the Lake MXZ200 Cycling Shoes and hit the singletrack in the freshly fallen snow, enjoying spinning your legs when the trails are empty of all other bipedal creatures, while keeping your feet toasty, thanks to durable uppers that cut through the elements, and ample space for proper winter socks.

The Lake MXZ200 are constructed with full-grain leather uppers that are vegetable tanned for a unique look that's akin to work and hiking boots. The inside features a waterproof membrane, so if the snow gets deep your feet can stay dry, and the toes are backed up with 3M Thinsulate lining to trap heat inside. The shoes are built on Lake's Winter Last, which means they have a taller and wider toe box that allows for room for layering your favorite wooly winter socks to keep you warm. They lace up tall, finishing above the ankle, to keep wet, muddy, and cold weather on the outside where it belongs.

Finishing off the shoe is Vibram's heavy duty Mountain V outsole. This outsole has aggressive hiking lugs that keep you secure when you have to walk on slick and muddy trails, with directional tread designed to help you brake in the heel when walking downhill, or propel forward in the toe if you're hiking up a steep face to chase a fast and flowy descent. The sole also features a recessed cleat patch, for mountain any two-bolt mountain cleats, so you can clip in for maximum power on the trail.

Runs Very Small & Sole Requires a Knife

I returned this product before using it
Size Bought:

Aesthetically, this boot is beautiful. Looks like a fine hiking boot. Soft leather exterior, soft interior and Vibram lugged outsole. I am a long-time Lake shoe user. Every model I've used has always been 45.5. I ordered the boots in 46, thinking they would be bigger than usual and the boot is sized for winter use. It was very short. I eventually found a local store to try on. Results: the 47 was still too short. the 48 was ideal. And this is with low-bulk socks. The shoelaces were good in creating a lockdown. The sole. The picture used on BC's page is not accurate. I've seen the same picture in other stores too. The location for the SPD cleats needs to be cut out with a utility knife. There are not screws there to easily remove the rubber cover. I ultimately did not get these boots because it was just too much trouble to cut-out. The design made me feel that these were originally conceived for flat pedals and the SPD was an afterthought.

Good for spring and fall, not winter

I've used it several times

Comfortable. Run very small. Went up 2 sizes. It was a pain to have to cut out the sole for the spd cleat. Did not keep my feet warm when colder than 40° F. Returned them but only got a credit as I had worn them twice. I’m now using insulated Keen Targhee leather mid boots w flat pedals from Backcountry and my feet are toasty on the coldest days.
