Lake realizes that to go fast, you must be comfortable which is why it creates the MX176 Cycling Shoe. Utilizing its MX Sport Last, it features a larger, roomier toe-box than its MX Comfort last, giving you a bit more real estate for your dogs during those marathon events without sacrificing efficiency. Lake calls the resulting fit aggressive yet comfortable, making it ideal for bike messengers, touring cyclists, or anyone else who plans on being in their cycling shoes for long periods of time.
Lake uses its Race Sole to transfer the power to the pedals and covers it with its Mountain Race X non-marking rubber outsole for grip anytime you are off the bike. The Clarino microfiber upper is soft and durable while its mesh panels keep your feet from overheating on long rides. The closure system consists of a side mounted push/pull BOA L6 lacing system up top with a hook-and-loop strap closer to the toes. The BOA uses a micro-cable that provides fine-tuning and evenly-distributes the closure eliminating pressure points and hot spots.

Can?t get a good fit
- Familiarity:
- I've used it several times
- Size Bought:
- 43
- Height:
- 6' 1"
- Weight:
- 200
I started out with a size 42, but that was too small. Exchanged them for a size 43 which proved to be a the correct size. I have a pretty average foot (9.5 pretty much always works). A little on the wide side, but otherwise pretty easy to please. The MX176s have a comfortable toe box as mentioned in other reviews, but the heal slippage while walking, as also mentioned in previous reviews, is very noticeable and annoying. The only solution is to crank down on the BOA laces, but the tongue material is very thin, and a lot of accute pressure gets placed on the top of the foot which is actually painful. An obvious design flaw in my view. I?m sure i can come up something in the garage to relieve the pressure and make it work. It?s amazing what you get / don?t get with a $160 shoe. Anyway for now, I will probably stick with my trusty 10+ yr old Pearl Izumis which are worn out and stink but fit great. BTW- Backcountry has been great in trying to get things right. Great customer service, fast shipping - all around 5 stars!
