Why We Like The TX4 Approach Shoe

Forgoing the mesh upper in favor of tough and supportive leather, the TX4 is well-suited for dry, rocky, and more demanding approaches and earns its place atop La Sportiva's TX lineup. A full-wrap rubber rand is punctuated by a rubber toe cap for additional purchase on small footholds, and the Vibram MegaGrip rubber compound sole offers a sure-footed feel whether you're scrambling up loose rock, packed-trails, or big boulders.

Perfect fit

This is the perfect approach shoe for a climber who needs something comfortable enough to wear in a city, on hikes, or on low 5th class terrain. It rocks.

Didn’t last 3 months!

I bought these less than 3 months ago. I bought these to use running a highropes course, zip line and wood climbing wall. (We have to climb half way up the wall to use the zip line). My season was already over when I bought these so I never got a chance to use them on the course, and never will. The rips above the rubber are 3-4” long, in both shoes. I’ve only used them for everyday use around my office, going out etc. This is to bad because they are really comfortable. Bit if they don’t last wearing them like I did how would they last on a mountain

Great Shoes with Many Use

This is my second pair. They are more than a casual fashion forward approach shoe. I have used them for many miles of technical scrambles (class 4 & 5), Class 3 and 4 canyoneering and light <5.6 climbing. They are the best I can find and worth the elevated price. The shoes have a wonderfully wide toe box with just the right amount of support. The soles are gripping on rock including wet rock. The toe-in fairly well for a comfortable shoes. The shoes will shrink a little after wet canyoneering adventures but stretch out again after a little use. They are nearly a perfect shoes. My only small complaint is that you will need to replace the factory shoes laces after a couple seasons of hard use.

Good shoes, extremely crapy quality laces

I bought less than a month ago, I like the shoes, but like I read in another reviews, the laces are totally crappy, they got broken, and for the price I paid that bothers me.

Best Shoe Ever

The TX4 is the best mountain shoe ever, I would go to hell and back in these with a 50 lb pack. I have 4 seasons in them, and use them for everything from day hikes, to multi pitch climbing. I have started climbing most routes in these, up to 5.7, maybe a little 5.8, and no longer pull out rock shoes when things get tough. I no longer bring rock shoes on alpine days. The comfort level is outstanding, and I would describe myself as having finicky feet. When others are scrambling for flip flops at the trailhead, I'd keep these on the rest of the day and not think twice. As for durability, I'd say outstanding as well. I hope Sportiva never changes this shoe!

Awesome approach/wall climbing shoe

One of the best approach shoes on the market. These shoes are durable, sticky, and super comfortable. I've had several pairs of these shoes and have climbed cracks in them, walked through snow, logged miles of approaches and the rubber wears out before the materials fails every time. I'm not sure what other folks are doing in these shoes that cause the shoes to fall apart like Ive read in other reviews. I feel like I've put these shoes through some serious abuse and they have held up well. I would definitely recommend these to anyone looking for a solid approach/wall shoe.

Not durable at all

I had the shoes for a month now and they already have tear in them. I used them only as approach shoes and light srambling and they are finish not what i expect for the price. The grip is good on rock and they are comfy

I bought these specifically for canyoneering. They were phenominal, in and out of water. I read that someone had problems with the laces...same. The grommets have nearly cut the laces. I got a 1/2 summer out of them, the shoes that is. I abused them! I'd buy them again even knowing the shortcoming. I bought a size big so I could use them all day with my custom inserts. Solid shoe for a day and weekend in the canyons. I would have given 5 stars except the laces are on the verge of snapping after 3-4 months of hard use.

Great approach shoes, super comfortable!

I love these approach shoes, just wish the laces didn't break within a few months with every pair that I get!

Weird tongue

Familiarity:

I did a lot of research before buying these and after getting them I was surprised a bit that people didn't seem to mention the shoe tongue in their reviews. The tongue is surprising thick and it's angled. I'm not sure why it is that why but it seems a bit weird to me. Lastly, the shoe fits great once I have it on, but getting the shoes on it tough. Other than that great shoe so far!
