A must have for hiking on rocks

40.5

I'm a novice climber (mostly gym, still trying to climb outside more), so I didn't necessarily need approach shoes. But I just finished my 8 day Utah national parks trip and am so glad I talked myself into getting these. We walked more than 10 miles everyday on rock faces and boulders; these shoes helped me hike confidently and were very comfortable. We also ended up hiking in some slot canyons, which I wouldn't have wanted to do without these grippy shoes. I could basically walk vertically down rocks with so much grip. The sizing of these shoes might slightly be off. I got a 40.5 and wear a size 9 in my altra road running shoes, but an 8 in chacos. I probably could have ordered a 40.0 and been happy, but I didn't have many issues with a 40.5. There were only a few times when I thought maybe a half size smaller might have helped. Overall really love these shoes!

Ordered this off the bat after doing research ! Have not tried them but will def update this review ! Just wanted to leave the size here because it took me over 2 weeks to convince myself to get em. I was going to go off the reviews as people stated it was bigger than advertised. Let me tell you ... it’s true to size at least for me . So if you are looking for a size 8 women -39.5. I usually wear a 6.5 in men’s if that helps! I had told my bff about this shoes and she bought them before me! And I seen how great they are! They help and are comfy considering we hike over 6 miles. They stick very well to rocks and the colors are just so vibrant!! Must have shoe

These reviews said they run large and to order down a size. I completely disagree and also so does Zappos - their site says size up! Super disappointing because I love the shoes and i need hiking boots but now it is 4th of July weekend and I can’t get a pair in time so I’m stuck with nike running shoes with zero traction.

Great option!

Got these as a gift and "Comfortable, lightweight shoes for walking around in the desert! the mesh uppers are great for keeping my feet from overheating and allowing any water that gets in to also get back out. The sole is nice and grippy and hopefully will help me stick better to canyon walls. I have slightly wider feet and these fit like a glove."

My go to Approach shoe!

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

I am in love with these shoes. They are light, comfortable, durable, and grippy. It is true that they run big (I sized down 1/2 a size from my normal size 7). I have loved scrambling in these shoes, they have always felt secure and solid. I am thinking about bringing these shoes on the JMT later this summer but I haven't deiced yet. The fun colors are an awesome bonus!

used for wet canyoneering

Familiarity:
I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

There's a lot of reviews stating they run big, which I think is true. I usually wear an 8 US and went to 7.5 US which was great. Got them for some wet canyoneering in Zion and I loved how grippy the soles are. They make me feel like a backcountry goat ;) The side wall and toes with the grippy rubber were a major help for the little nooks and crannies. Uppers show VERY slight signs of wear, but I think the wear is reasonable for the work I was doing, I expected more wear. I've washed them as directed and because they were wet for 3 days they're starting to smell a wee bit funky. I got these hoping they'd be more viable for wet adventures which I think is true compared with so many of the leather approach shoes. Hoping I can get some feedback on if sink the stink would work for this mildew issue. Followed directions on box for cleaning but I think canyoneering water is just too dank.

comfort vs durability

I got these last minute for a major climbing trip. They didn't have my size --I got the size US 6.5 which was incorrectly translated from a size 37.5 (La Sportiva seems to do this a lot). They were definitely a size too big. DESPITE this they held me up while I climbed for a week in the North Cascades - they were super sticky on rock, really comfortable and decent for the hike in on scree and talus due to the lugs on the bottom. The fabric makes me wonder if they would get holes really fast, but I really liked them and would be tempted to get them in my size. Generally I wear a size 6.5 or 7, ie a size 36-37, so if you're going by US sizes, size down.

Much lighter than my Boulder X's. The black that wraps from the sides of the forefoot back around the shoe and the heel is a really tough foam type material. At first it seems like it might get torn up easily but at second glance, I think only time will tell as its actually burlier than I thought. The colors are awesome! My only complaint is that they run big about half a size. I have found that in the past year when I have re-ordered shoes from sportiva that even in the same model I have to order a half size down. I am a solid W's 9.5 (sometimes 10 if its a boot) and the size 41 in these is just big enough I can fit my thumb between my heel and the back of the shoe. Will reorder a half size down.
