Why We Like The TX2 Approach Shoe

When a shallow creek stands between us and the base of our route, we don't have to worry about trying to keep our shoes dry when we're wearing the La Sportiva TX2 Approach Shoe. Its quick-draining polyester mesh upper dumps water, while the non-slip mesh lining ensures a snug and secure fit when you're hiking up steep slopes off trail. A protective rubber rand protects the shoe from wear and tear, and the lightweight construction with C2 ComboCord means you can easily clip the TX2 to a harness or backpack, without feeling weighed down or off balance.

Not Durable

I've had these for about 6 months and I'm really unimpressed with the durability of these shoes. I would expect them to be able to withstand regular weekend short class 1-3 hiking and approaches given the la sportiva brand and the intended use. The fabric began wearing off and tearing after the first trail hiking trip we went on less than a month after I bought them. We went for 5 days about 8 miles a day on paved/dirt class 1-2 trails, nothing crazy. 5 days and it looked like I had them for months.

Wanted to love them but very narrow

Familiarity:
I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I was very excited about buying these but they are just too narrow and low for my feet so I have returned them. I didn't think my feet were particularly wide or high arch but maybe compared to typical skinny climbers? The length of the shoe was true to EU sizing but maybe the width goes by US sizing as the conversion was slightly wrong (I'm usually EU38/ US7.5 and the box labels these as EU38 / US7). Also, if your feet are narrow with low arches the laces might be a bit longer too - I could only just tie a bow in them.

One of my best purchases of 2020

Familiarity:

I really like these a lot. I had REALLY been putting off buying approach shoes. I chose these over the TX4s due to their lighter weight and overall they had a pretty good rating for their climbing ability. I barley noticed them on the back of my harness while i was climbing. I felt good climbing easy friction slab in them and scrambling down gullies this past weekend. Probably one of my best purchases this year. My only problem is the narrowness and low profile for the toe and arch area. It feels sort of like the top of my toes and foot are being squeezed a bit to tight but I think breaking them in should fix that. EU sizing for this shoe was not the right size for me it was way to small. I had to use my US sizing to get a good fit. lilkley true to size for US not EU runs small.

Love the color!!!

Dope color and style. True fit!! Light, breathable, low profile, and great traction. Feels like an approach/climbing shoe. Excelent for spring to fall. The best future is it has elastic to compact them together and hang on your harness while you climb multi pitches. Brilliant idea!!!

Shoes I Can Trust

Prior to having the TX2's, I was using hiking boots to take on burly trails and climbing approaches. I slipped and tripped on everything. Now that I have the TX2's, I'm able to trust that the rubber will grip even the slickest terrain. I don't worry about slipping or tripping anymore. I love the cord on the bottom and back of the shoes, allowing for easy storage on my harness for long multi-pitch routes. These are stylish, lightweight, and comfortable.

37 felt like the perfect size for me. My other shoe sizes for comparison ||| La Sportiva Finales: EU36 ||| Saucony Powergrid Ride 10: US7, feel a tiny bit loose but good because feet may get bigger after running ||| Vessis Everyday: US7, feels a bit big

Order 1/2 size bigger!

I normally wear a size 43 in Sportiva hiking boots and needed to go up to 43.5 for these (and that meant switching over to the men's b/c women's don't come that big!) ... once I got the right fit, these are great! Super lightweight, good traction, and decent support. I just did a 13 mile hike to break them in last weekend and they were great! You can really adjust the tightness to match how much foot support you need for different terrains.

Finally! I've had a hard time finding approach shoes that fit my narrow, low-volume feet. These things are great. Snug and grippy, sturdy and supportive, but light enough to carry on a multi-pitch for descents and walk-offs. They also work for canyoneering. I recently wore them on a three-day trek up a creek, which involved hiking about 24 miles, half of that in water. They drained quickly, dried overnight, and the soles were stiff enough to provide support on cobbles. Based on other reviews, I ordered a few pairs to try, thinking that I'd need to size down. Nope. Ended up returning the smaller sizes and going with the 38, which is exactly what the size guide says is equivalent to my usual street size of 7. The only negative was the insoles, which were so thin that I was getting hot spots under the balls of my feet. Switched for some Dr. Scholl's and now they feel great! Otherwise, there was no break-in needed. The heel cup is especially cushy and secure. I can imagine that the laces might be too short if you have a wider foot, but they are perfect for me. Really happy with these.

On My Fifth Pair of These

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer
Size Bought:
9.5

I'm on my fifth pair of the TX2 because I love them so much. They are light, breathable, and sticky. I can comfortably climb low fifth class in them and always feel super solid on approaches. I also love them for canyoneering when I have to trudge through water and them immediately onto slick slab. I tie just the tips of the laces together to make them into slip-ons (who has time to tie and untie shoes?!) and I hike 20+ miles comfortably that way. I'm not a girl with tons of pairs of shoes, so these are actually my everyday shoes as well. They hold up a long time with a lot of use and abuse, and whenever mine eventually wear out, I always order another pair of the exact same shoe. P.S. I have owned a few pairs of the men's TX2 and they are identical other than color.

Perfect!

I tend to prefer a low profile approach shoe and these seemed to fit the bill. I consistently wear a size 7 and bought a 38. They felt tight at first and I almost exchanged for a half size bigger but stuck with them - I'm glad I did. It took 3 or 4 walks to break them in and now they might as well be the only pair of shoes I own. I've had pain in my right foot for the past 5 years because of tight calves. It would get aggravated just standing for 30 minutes or hiking/walking a mile. With these on my feet I can go all day and have ZERO pain! I finally got to wear them for the intended purpose for the first time yesterday. They felt secure on the rocky approach to/from the crag and gave me just the right amount of confidence to get around on some class 4 terrain. They were easy to slip on and off and so light on my harness I forgot they were there. I hope these shoes never go away!
