Why We Like The TX Guide Approach Shoe

In La Sportiva's collection of TX approach shoes, the TX Guide sits right in the middle in terms of powerful stability and comfortable lightness. It's lighter than the burlier X4 boots, and more stable than the lighter TX3 and TX2 shoes.

We love that La Sportiva used an all-new upper for this shoe; its Ultra-Weave jacquard balances breathability with long-lasting durability, and TPU reinforcements work with the toe and heel caps for even greater abrasion-resistance. Underfoot, a unique combination of Vibram's Megagrip and Idrogrip rubber make for solid traction, whether we're going up or down; La Sportiva's Impact Brake System assists the downhill even more.

Narrow!

Familiarity:
I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Trying these on, I quickly realized they were narrow, so I upped by 1/2 size and that worked fine. I actually like the narrow front, since my favorite LaSportiva Climbing Shoe is the Solution. If they fit you, these shoes are very supportive. For some strange reason, they make certain of my socks descend into the shoe under the heel. Anklets with rolled backs don't suffer this phenomenon. Finally, they utterly look like clown shoes with their bright red laces, so I replaced those laces with all black. Geez, the laces are LONG = you have to go over 6 feet. I used a 10 penny nail to widen the lace holes so the laces would shift better whilst moving.

Too Narrow of a Toe Box

Familiarity:
I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

These shoes are well built and the little I was able to wear them they performed well on the trail. But from the get-go the formed toe box was very tight and I have a narrow foot. By day 2, my little toes on both feet were blistering and I had to tape them. With the ridged toe box design there is absolutely no way they would “Break In” to alleviate the pressure. So these are going up for donation, an I am out the cost with less than 10 miles on the shoes.

Weird foot shape

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

I really wanted to love these shoes. They seemed like exactly what I needed, but after giving it a few tries I had to sell them because the shape of the shoe is oddly narrow towards the front. Even with the laces adjusted to reduce tightness, the foot just doesn't feel right in the shoe. I've met others with similar experiences with this shoe so it's not just me. Of course there are some people who with narrow feet for whom this will fit nicely. I'm jealous of those people, the shoe is well built and seems like it would do its job very well, if only I could actually wear it

Not La Sportiva Fit

Familiarity:
I returned this product before using it
Size Bought:

The other reviewers are confusing the length of a shoe with how wide a shoe is. I sized a half size up to match the reviews and found my toes far back from the front and a loose heel. The length is the exact same as all La Sportiva shoes. Unfortunately, these are the most narrow La Sportiva shoes I've ever seen. They fit more like an Arcteryx shoe. You can size up, but what good are approach shoes when your toes are way far back from the front? I'm going to try a couple more sizes, but my expectation is that despite amazing specs and construction, these shoes won't fit most La Sportiva fans correctly.

Not so great?

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

I got a pair of these and, I'm impressed in some ways but not in others. The good: The rubber is super nice. Very grippy and it really lets you move over rough terrain with ease. Plus, holds up super well. Shoes are very comfortable. The outers are durable. The Bad: The inners. The inside ankle of my shoe started coming apart within.... two weeks. I've put a decent amount of miles on these shoes already and now more of the inner of the shoe is tearing apart. They still feel fine and perform well but, the fact that they're literally coming apart at the seams on the inside is disheartening. I've been a fan of LaSpo for a while now and honestly this is the first time I've ever been let down by one of their products. I haven't been exceptionally rough on my shoes, they've just been used for what they're designed to do. It just sucks seeing them come apart on the inside so quickly because I actually really like them otherwise. Overall, it could be a good shoe but, the quality issues are definitely glaring. I'd probably go with the TX4's next time.

Love 'em

Familiarity:
I've used it several times
Size Bought:
45.5

I wanted something burlier to replace my TX4s after they started to fall apart prematurely so I picked these up. They are awesome shoes: they're light, supportive enough for backpacking with a 40 lb pack, and I can climb low class 5 in them no problem. The only caveat is sizing. Sizing is quite a bit different from the TX4s. My size 45 (11.5 US) TX4s fit me like a dream but these run small and have a much narrower toe box and run small. After a miserable time climbing Mt. Shasta in a size 45 that I bought without trying on I bumped up to a 45.5 and am quite happy with them. I'd recommend going up a half size to a full size depending on how wide your feet are.

Fast and light approach shoe

I?m not one to write reviews, but these shoes are above and beyond in my opinion. I?ve been using these in the Oregon and Washington mountains and find them to be a perfect fit for when I need a do-it-all shoe. Light and breathable with a technical fit, but also stiff enough to make crossing boulder fields and climbing a breeze. I?ve paired these with a stiffer strap on crampon and found them excellent for moderate summer glacier ascents. I switched to these from my TX4?s as I was looking for something a bit lighter that I could move a bit quicker in. I wouldn?t say I can ?run? in these but I most certainly can get moving on the way down with much more comfort than before. I find I?m much quicker on low 5th rock in these as well with the climbing shoe like feel. However I they don?t climb cracks near as well as the TX4s did. I have not climbed above 5.6 in these shoes and that feels about as far as I?d feel comfortable in them without actual rock shoes. The only downside I?ve found as a wide footed individual these run a bit slim and short, but it is supposed to be a more technical fit I guess. I had to order 1/2 size up to get the correct fit.

These appear to be the same great quality you expect from La Sportiva, however they are labeling the sizes quite small. I returned mine for TWO sizes larger. Size up at least 1-2 sizes.
