Why We Like The Solution Climbing Shoe

The Women's Solution Climbing Shoe is La Sportiva's most popular answer to difficult boulder problems and steep sport routes. Drastically downturned, this shoe is one of the best for overhangs, scummy heel hooks, greasy smears, and microscopic edges. La Sportiva's revered P3 Power Platform was first developed specifically for this shoe, and it retains the shoe's aggressive downturn for the shoe's life. A shoe this technical deserves its own special rubber compound, and it's one of the few out there to feature Vibram's XS Grip2 rubber, which is extremely stiff around the toe box and soft, supple, and thin at the heel and arch. With more flexibility at the heel, the Solution bends to your will when you're toeing off-angled footholds and high-stepping the top-out.

  • La Sportiva's popular shoe for bouldering and sport climbing
  • Sharp, asymmetric downturn engages an aggressive performance
  • Vibram XS Grip2 is stiff at the toe and soft at the heel and arch
  • P3 power platform retains the shoe's aggressive profile for life
  • Lock Harness System unifies the upper for your foot for a comfy fit
  • Fast Lacing System with a quick-and-easy hook-and-loop adjustment
  • Women-specific last designed with a narrower platform and lower volume

Snug...maybe a little too snug

Love the shoe and how it feels when I’m on a steep overhang, being a male with wide feet, maybe wasn’t the best idea with these shoes but sacrifice comfort for performance and it works well for the task at hand. A little snug for me but that’s due to my naturally wide feet.

Great sensitivity for bouldering

Familiarity:
I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

In looking for new climbing shoes, I tried on many pairs. All of them, with the exception of one other one , hurt my heel. I have a normal width foot, street shoe size 36. My heels are not wide or big. I ended up getting the size 37. I was pleasantly surprised when I tried the solutions on, as my heels did not hurt. The fit is snug with no hot spots. I tried these shoes bouldering in a rock gym. I think they have incredible sensitivity.

Perfect for my narrow long feet

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

I've been wearing Solutions since they first came out. Switching to women's gave my heel a better fit to lock in the entire shoe perfectly. They are size, fit, and performance reliable. This is my go to shoe for just about everything.

Great for Experienced Climbers

Familiarity:
I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

I gave these shoes as a gift to my b-a sister in law and here’s what she had to say: I wanted to pick up the Solution last year but the shocking pink color threw me for a loop. With this year’s update to orange, I was stoked to give them a try. They’re easy to pop on and off between climbs. The more aggressive toe allows me to step more confidently to smaller holds on a route. They are true to size, with a close fit in mind.

They are the SOLUTION!

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

(from a friend) I have worn the old style (pink) solutions for the past three years and instantly fell in love with them. So I was curious to see how the new (orange) style would be. They fit perfect! and they perform the same. They have an inner lining that hugs your foot like a glove. They are very comfortable, especially for the small size I wear. I am a street shoe size 38.5 (7.5 US) and I ordered a 35.5 (5 US). Seriously, if you want to step up your climbing...they are the SOLUTION!

Disappointed

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

I have been climbing in solutions for four years, and I’™ve always loved them. I’ve had no quality issues, the strap never broke, and they fit me like a glove. My only complaint was that they were pink! So I was super stoked when they came out with nominally the same shoe in orange. However, after three months of normal summer use, I’™m highly disappointed. The toe cap is pulling up to such an extent that toe hooking is nestling impossible, and the problem gets worse with every use. The strap is also tearing: a problem I have heard others complain about, have never personally experienced, and which Sportiva said they had fixed. I hope this is just a quality control issue, due to being early in a new design. The Solution has always been a fabulous shoe, and with some tweaks could easily be again!

Two years later, you have the Solution Competition; with much more rubber on the toe.

pretty cool

Familiarity:
I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

The newer, pointier toe makes it harder to put toes in all the way, so consider when downsizing. The design itself is way better than the original pink, which is just nice as far as looks go (although all climbing shoes are ugly, so function over fashion is always the way to go). The strap seems sturdier than the previous model, as well, which is reassuring as far as wear and tear goes. Other than that, same ol’ Solution - which is a really good thing.

Okay

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

I was pretty excited to finally get to climb in these. And it's been alright. They're tight, but have a bit of slippage in the heel all the same. The most frustrating part is paying full price for the shoe and already having the L strap wear out, I'm worried it'll snap soon. I've had them a couple of months and I feel like this shouldn't be the case. I don't think I've nearly out it through the wringer yet, kind of bummed about the quality.

New for 2018

Check out La Sportiva's in depth look at the new women's Solution. New for both this shoe and the men's version are the Lorica tongue, a thinner more tactile toe cap (for easier break in and better feel) and the redesigned fast lacing system. If you are used to the Men's solution look for a lower volume last and thinner mid-sole going into the women's solution. Copy is Incorrect

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

The copy states that "Apart from the new, flashy colors, this Solution has a newly refined, 3D-shaped heel cup that keeps a solid fit no matter how scummy that heel hook feels. " This is incorrect. This 3D shaped heel cup was introduced on the last model of the Solution and remains unchanged for this model. They have only changed the strap and colors, along with the rand for the toe hook rubber. Seriously, do you guys even Google search this stuff? This took me less than 5 minutes to research. If you actually look at the pictures on your own website, the heel appears to be exactly the same. The toe hook rubber has actually changed fairly significantly, and this does change the fit and feel of the shoe. I literally don't see a single sentence highlighting this change. What is going on here? 4 stars for a great pair of shoes, remodeled to be slightly better. They are still too loose in the heel cup for almost anyone with the corresponding foot width for this narrower model.
