You never know what the trail will bring you, and what's wet and muddy one moment can be dry and dusty the next. Stay prepared for any challenge or terrain with the La Sportiva Lycan Trail Running Shoe. Designed to deliver the best in all-around trail performance, this shoe features a grippy and durable FriXion rubber outsole, which ensures traction on variable trail surfaces both wet and dry. The outsole also features an Impact Brake System that allows for a safer and more controlled descent. A protective toe cap and an underfoot rock guard help keep your feet safe from sharp rocks and roots, while the cushioned EVA midsole provides comfort and shock-absorption for high-mileage days on hard and rocky surfaces. The shoe's upper balances breathability that'll help you excel on hot days and the durability you need on rugged trails, utilizing both breathable mesh and an abrasion-resistant mud guard. Great fitting/comfortable trail runners

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

I really dig the La Sportiva Lycans. They're really comfortable and are sufficiently gripping for any of the trails I run on. They feel great and, though I've only put 70 miles on them so far, they're showing no signs of wear and seem like they'll last a long time. Just ordered a 2nd pair for when the first wears out. 300 Mile Update: Now that the weather has warmed up, I've noticed that my feet get super hot and sweaty in these. The Lycans have not been super breathable. I've also noticed a great deal of slipping if trails are the least bit wet. If they get wet, they stay wet for a couple of days. They seemed great before the weather really warmed up and things got humid. Now, they're not really my favorite. I do have some decent size holes ripped in the left shoe. Shoes still are more or less comfortable and functional after 300 miles. Anyway, breathability and sogginess lead me to knock a star off my original score.

Lycan product video

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

Lycan is the brand new trail running shoe developed by La Sportiva for running over medium distance, training sessions and skyrunning. A comfortable shoe, ideal for those who love to run off-road .

Another great shoe by La Sportiva

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

Like all La Sportiva's thee are well crafted shoes, high quality materials, amazing grip and colors are much nicer in reality (tropic blue is a deeper color than depicted online). La Sportiva's are narrower than most shoes, but these roomier than most of their other models- I usually size up a full size, only had to do 1/2 a size up with these. Toe box is roomier than other models which I find perfect. Since they are wider these are perfect shoes for those with custom made orthotics. I can see why they might be too stiff to run in, personally I use these for walking and hiking and they are very comfortable.

Huge Sportiva fan, just not for these

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

I am a big Sportiva fan generally. I have a narrow foot and have sportiva approach shoes, hiking boots, trail runners, climbing shoes, etc that all fit very well. These shoes were so different than any other shoes from the company I have used. I found the shoes to be far too stiff, not cushioned well enough, and the shape in the toe box wasn't comfortable. I sized the same as all my other sportiva shoes and while my big toe had enough space, my third and fourth toe felt super jammed up against the front of the shoe. It's a very odd sizing. They felt stable, well-made materials-wise, and like they would be great for technical running (of short distances due to the stiff cushioning), but in the end I just couldn't tolerate the fit and the rigidity - I gave them to a friend after about 15 miles in them. I'm curious if the Lycan IIs will address some of these issues. I haven't seen other people with the same complaints so I'm not sure if my foot just wasn't mean for these shoes. Supposedly they take some break-in time but I just couldn't do it. YMMV
