Lycan GTX Trail Running Shoe
When you're exploring the higher elevations of your local peaks the weather can be awfully fickle, but you'll be prepared for any conditions or terrain in the La Sportiva Lycan GTX Trail Running Shoe. Designed for all-terrain performance and outfitted with a waterproof Gore-Tex membrane, this shoe will continue to deliver steady performance when the skies open up. Your feet will stay dry thanks to the Gore-Tex Extended Comfort lining, and the grippy FiXion AT 2.0 rubber outsole will give you sure-footed traction on muddy trails and wet rock. The upper, along with the Gore-Tex lining, allows for maximum breathability when you start to work up a sweat, and the abrasion-resistant mudguard helps prevent mud from coating and soaking your shoe. You've also got a cushioned EVA midsole for added comfort and shock-absorption, as well as rock protection in the forefoot and underfoot to keep your feet protected from sharp roots and rocks that might be hiding in all that mud.

Lycan is the brand new trail running shoe developed by La Sportiva for running over medium distance, training sessions and skyrunning. A comfortable shoe, ideal for those who love to run off-road .

Another great offering from La Sportiva
- I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
- True to size

I've been wearing La Sportiva trail runners almost exclusively since Salomon changed the fit of their Speedcross line and they became too narrow for my feet. I've worn (and worn out) La Sportiva Wildcats and Synthesis, and these Lycans are similar in quality and fit. I need shoes with a fairly wide toe-box and a normal shaped heel area and these, like previous La Sportiva offerings, fit the bill. The styling is nice, garnering compliments whenever I wear them. My typical use for these shoes is winter trail running, usually involving mud, snow, ice, rocks and gravel. The soles on the GTX Lycans are more aggressive that on the non-GTX models, each lug measures nearly a 1/4" tall! The grip is amazing. But like other La Sportiva trail runners, the compound is quite soft, and will likely wear out quickly much like previous models. Usually I get 300-400 miles out of a pair of La Sportiva trail runners before the soles are too slick to safely run in. The goretex liner breathes very well and does a great job of keeping water from creeping in. I have worn these for extended runs in snowy conditions and my feet remain warm and dry. As far as negatives go, I am not a fan of the nylon webbing lace "eyes". On previous models (like Synthesis) the webbing has worn through making the shoes useless. The weight is a bit excessive, but after all, this IS a goretex shoe. All in all the La Sportiva Lycan is a great winter trail shoe

I order a pair of these in a 45 and found they run a bit small. I've reordered a 45.5 to try out... really cool looking shoes. I own a lot of La Sportiva shoes/boots that I love but the sizing is always a bit wacky. Update: Sized up to the 45.5 and still a bit small! Go up at least 1 full size. Ball of the foot is narrow... but traction is incredible!!
