Futura Climbing Shoe

The La Sportiva Women's Futura Climbing Shoe looks like it's from the future. Climbers from the sixties would have been baffled with everything from the aggressive downturn to the flashy colors. They wouldn't understand how La Sportiva's No-Edge Technology actually allows better edging rather than none at all, and they wouldn't want to know why P3 technology keeps it at such a harsh downturn. If they did have this shoe back then though, there would have been even more first ascents in Yosemite, especially all the boulders, and sport climbing would have been mainstream sooner than it did.

Off sizing

Drastically off the sizing for the other La Sportiva I own and have owned. I would not know how many sizes to go up. Extreme pain and I already sized up a half size from slightly less aggressive. There is also bunching of fabric like it’s made for fatty feet. They seem like they’d be good for smearing with the flexible middle. Unfortunately I can’t risk shipping testing more sizes.

Great Shoe - wears faster than others

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer
Size Bought:
41
Height:
5' 10"

I really loved this shoe from the first time I put it on. I have a longer narrow foot and this seems to be a good shoe for my foot. I wear a 10 Woman's street shoe and usually get a 41 (US 9.5) in La Sportiva's. I like my shoe to be snug but not painfully so. With this sizing I still take my shoes off between routes but could leave them on if necessary. Previous to this shoe, I used the Otaki's - which I also really liked, but they seemed more difficult to break in. After wearing this shoe for about 4-5 months - once it felt good and broken in, I did feel like my (very narrow) heel started slipping more than I'd like. It never seemed to have a really tight fit. So for this reason, I would consider a tighter shoe if I wanted performance over comfort. As far as the no-edging technology, - I really like it! I feel like it was instantly easy to adjust to.... maybe this was because I wore my old shoes until they had no edge and no grip so it wasn't an accurate comparison. The only thing I'm disappointed with is that the shoe is already wearing through after 9 months -- this may not be a lot for avid climbers but I climb about 2 times a week indoor. My other shoes have lasted at least 3 months longer. Additionally, I'm reading that they cannot be resoled. If this is accurate (I'm still waiting to find out), then they seem kind of pricey for the quick wearing out. Other than that I'm quite happy with these!

The best!

I have been climbing in La Sportiva shoes for over 7 years and these are by far my favorite! I've had mythos, miura (lace and velcro), and solutions, but these are wonderful. The no edge is an interesting concept to get used to, but I love how sensitive these shoes are. I trust my feet and they're great for in the gym or outside. I love slab climbing and these work great for smearing and small edges, as well as overhung climbs. I sized down 1.5 from my street shoe size.

Sensitivity is the Key!

I’ve been wearing these shoes over a year now, and they are definitely one of my top choices. The sensitivity in the toe coupled with the no-edge technology really make this shoe. I personally love this shoe for slab.... it’s great for over hanging too, but I’ve always struggled to find a shoe that I felt comfortable on slab with.... these shoes give me an optimal range of motion and feeling in my toes to trust even the scariest feet. Also... the colors are just perfect!

Best gym shoe

I've been wearing the futura women's for a year and a half! It is my favorite shoe to use for bouldering in the gym. I like how sensitive it is and how the no-edge tech allows you to push through the toe, all the while, maintaining surface area!

Toe-in-on-anything

Awesome shoe. Difficult to get used to the fit at first, but like any aggressive shoe, you'll learn to love it. The no-edge technology allows you to feel every hold you toe-in on. Fast-lacing is awesome, I can get in and out of my shoes really easily which is a huge advantage for bouldering. Really good for overhung projects, but sucks to use for anything slabby or smearing. This shoe has really helped me with more technical projects, because it lets you toe in on anything. or at least that's what it feels like. A little expensive compared to other shoes on the market, but definitely worth it with how long the shoe lasts.
