Traverse Pant

The Kuhl Men's Traverse Pant provides a versatile performance that keeps comfy whether it's an everyday event or you're hiking something fierce. Its superlight softshell fabric provides plenty of stretch and breathability to perform well on the trail, and Kuhl treated it with DWR to shrug off raindrops with ease. An articulated fit ensures freedom of movement, and adjustable cuffs keep the leg openings off your hiking shoes when you're traipsing over muddy terrain.

What could have made them even better? Less would have been more. Unlike a great many designs that fall just short of perfection, Kuhl's problem is they have crammed in 3 features too many. More than being just superfluous, the problem is these try-hard features simply add frustration, not function. 1) Kuhl has added a 2x4" triangular flap of fabric to the fly that attaches to a large, quarter-sized plastic button sewn to the left pocket liner. This does absolutely nothing but add a large, uncomfortable, hard object between my groin and my phone or whatever else is in that pocket. No bueno for active sports like climbing or skiing where your knees repeatedly come up above your waist. I will simply cut the button off, and hope that the flap does not need to be cut off & seam-stitched as well. 2&3) There are bizarrely deep and narrow pockets on the back of both pant legs, placed just below the rear pockets and behind the side seams. Openings are zippered, and only 3" wide. In spite of my long, slender fingers, I cannot insert enough of my hand into either side to reach an object at the bottom of these 7-9" deep pockets. What on earth do Kuhl's designers think we are going to put in these pockets? A gel or Chapstick? You'll need to pack nice, long surgical foreceps to fish them out. I am going to cut off the metal pull-tabs off the zippers so they don't snag on things and just pretend these pseudo-cargo-pockets are not there. TLDR constructive critique for Kuhl's designers: delete the flyaway fly and pseudo-cargo-pockets, and pass the weight & cost savings on to your user/buyer, and these mountain-pants will be pure zen!
