    Spyfire Hooded Down Jacket

When you're looking for active insulation, too often it feels like you need to choose between a piece that's actually active and one that's actually insulated. With the Kuhl Spyfire Hooded Down Jacket you'll have the best of both worlds for all of your cold-weather alpine adventures. It's got a got a contoured 3D fit with thermal body mapping, giving you a larger baffle construction in the core for warmth where you most need it, and smaller side baffles for reduced bulk, easy layering, and better movement. The side baffles also aren't quite so toasty, which, along with stretchy and breathable knit panels, provides a comfortable warmth that won't leave you ripping off layers as soon as you get above a brisk walk.

The front body is constructed with a durable windproof nylon to ensure that cold blasts of air don't stop you in your tracks, while the shoulders are made with a softshell-reinforced fabric to prevent tearing and snagging when you're lugging skis, ropes, or other abrasive equipment further up the mountain. You've got all of this with DWR (Durable Water Resistant) protection from light rain and moderate snowfall, as well as a multi-adjustment hood to quickly toss over a beanie when you need added warmth on early mourning touring sessions.

    • A down hoodie for the active life in the mountains and around town
    • 800-fill down keeps you warm during fall climbs and winter touring
    • Thermal body mapping gives you core warmth with reduced bulk
    • Softshell-reinforced shoulders resist abrasion from ski carry
    • Stretchy and breathable panels for staying comfortable in motion
    • Adjustable hood quickly blocks the wind in exposed environments
    • DWR coating sheds off light rain and snow for multi-season use
    • Reflective zipper tape stops snags and keeps you visible when open

    Great jacket

    • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
    • Fit: True to size

Got this as a gift for my dad and here is his feedback:
Awesome all around jacket. It is a great everyday jacket or can be a mid layer. He likes the pockets on the chest and it is very unique looking, not like other down puffy jackets. Really good quality and durable. Did have to exchange a L or XL as the shoulders and upper arms were way too snug for me.

    Amazing coat!

I gave this as a gift and received great feedback:
"The coat is great quality and it looks awesome! I love that it stands out a little from your average down. A small detail that I love is they've added strips of fabric on the inside of all the zippers to help prevent them from catching on the coat, which happens to me far too often on my other jackets! It's not as warm as I expected for the price. Despite this it has become my go to jacket. Lastly, make sure you have great insurance before buying this product, as you are bound to give a few people whiplash as you walk by dripping in swag."

    Lightweight yet warm!

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Medium

I took this jacket with me on a trip to the Swiss Alps earlier this year. My buddies and I spent some time in Zermatt. I couldn't ski, but a few of us took the gondola right up to the summit of 'Klein Matterhorn' (little Matterhorn). I wore a Patagonia Nano-Puff Vest as my inner layer, and wore this Spyfire Jacket over it. The combo kept me plenty warm even with the temp at -15C! The hood did an excellent job cutting out the wind and kept my head very warm. I absolutely love how light this jacket is. It's also water resistant. I walked a couple miles with it on, while it was snowing quite heavily outside and I stayed dry all the way back to my hotel room.

The only negative to this jacket is that quite a few feathers popped out while I had the jacket. For this very reason, I decided to return it, with great reluctance. Maybe I got a defective piece...who knows! But, overall I absolutely love this jacket. and will highly recommend it. It looks super sleek and stylish when you wear it, so that's an added incentive! :)

    Satisfied!

Quality: material is great, feels strong, and jacket is plenty warm
Overall: great jacket for the price, would purchase again and just might actually in a different color

    Great Jacket

Jacket fits great! It works perfect for an everyday jacket as well as for any outdoor activity. It's not too puffy and works great as a layer as well for the colder days. A little bit tight in the chest but not too tight that its uncomfortable.

    perfect choice

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I have a lot of jackets, and this is amongst the favorites: 5+ stars.
This review is mostly to help people with sizing.
    I'm a 5'11'', endurance athlete, and weigh 175lbs.
    Ordered both M and L:
Med was great but still could use a 0.5-1 inch in the sleeves if i try to reach far above my head.
Large was way too roomy and not worth the extra sleeve length. Sent it back to keep the MED without hesitation.
Yes, upper chest pockets are a bit shallow, but if thats a big deal order a fanny pack also.
Lower chest pockets are deeper and work great.
I love the feel and warmth of real down, so thats another plus.

unique design, slim fit, could be warmer

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: small
    • Height: 5'9"
    • Weight: 140lbs

Love this jacket, and have worn in a ton since getting it, but it is not quite as warm as I would have hoped. The down is a touch of a lighter warmth than I had imagined it would be, also the front pockets only seem have down on one side (one side only has a thin layer of fabric!) and could use some revising, I'd say next design round. Saying that, though I LOVE the slimmer fit, style/cut, and the zippers, the color, and hood. Pretty happy overall, though.

    Best all around city jacket

    • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: large
    • Height: 6'2"
    • Weight: 180lbs

I gave this as a gift and the person who received it absolutely loves this jacket. They wear it every day. From what he said the 800 fill down keeps him warm almost all the time. On those super frigid days that drop below 15 degrees he will throw on an insulated jacket on top and use this as a base layer. This jacket is light weight yet super warm. You get the best of both worlds.
