These shorts are very good in all aspects of use and wear. Tightly woven material is a great blend of toughness and comfort, offering ample stretch and nice “feel” against the skin; these shorts dry overnight after washing. These shorts are not “ultra lightweight” but not “heavy” either, but a good balance of a weave that can tolerate the abuses of the elements, yet with an attractive appearance. Leg opening diameter is good and the inseam length is great for walking and are comfortable to swim in; no water absorption. Pocket configuration is optimal; zipockets hold a cellphone no problem. The front snap is a bit overly heavy duty and can offer resistance to being pulled apart/opened... but it’s really not a problem. Overall: UBER!

Purchased for husband for father's day but they are smaller in waist than all his other shorts. He's 6'2" and 180. Our daughter purchased a similar pair, same size (34) but a different brand and the Kuhls are 2 inches smaller in the waist. He recently retired a pair of Kuhls he bought 11 years ago and has worn consistently throughout every summer for hiking, kayaking and general use. My husband loved everything about these so he asked me to get the next size up despite a new similar pair from another brand. He says you can't beat the quality and features of Kuhl!

These are the new cargo short—without the appearance of bulky cargo. I own several pair and I love the modern, sleek, clean look of this smartly designed, super-comfortable short. The length is really nice (but for my height, I'd like to see a 7" or 6" inseam). Its clean minimal cut makes it easy to dress them up for an evening out in warmer months, and they are my preferred go-to short for every occasion—whether I'm on the trail, on the water, or on a beach vacation. The side pockets are very handy for quick storage of a cell phone or small sports wallet, and the secure side zip pockets provide the peace of mind that your pocketed valuables won't ever be left behind. The shorter inseam gives a modern look and the mesh pockets provide a cooler wearing experience (just wore these every day for a month while backpacking the High Sierras for 222 miles). The fabric dries quickly (especially so in sunny, arid climates), and is surprisingly more durable than I expected it to be. I did have one pair that become defective where the hand pocket seams began to unravel, which was disappointing because the seam runs across the outside of the short and, of course, the pocket was no longer usable. Most brands don't offer a waist size smaller than 30, but a 29 would fit me perfectly and eliminate the need for a belt. This is an excellent, versatile short and I recommend it highly.

These are probably the only shorts I'll ever buy. I was delighted to see Kuhl didn't update much for this season except the colors, because why fix something that isn't broke? 8" inseam is a perfect length for me, ensuring my thighs get Vitamin D'd. There's a good stretch in the material making the waist comfy even after you're on Beer 7 and go back for a third plate at your buddy's 4th of July BBQ. The multiple pockets are super useful, whether you're backpacking for several days or out running errands and need to stay organized. They're also mesh which means the whole piece dries lightning quick if you need to ford a waist-deep river crossing. The pic attached is from the 2016 model, but like I said - nothing's changed but the colors.

Love the fit, has that stylish above-knee cut. Great utility with the pockets. Stretchy fabric holds up under abusive treatment. Quick drying with mesh pockets. I'm actually ordering another pair. Only complaint is the velcro on the back pockets is sometimes REALLY stuck and takes some effort to open up but that's probably best in the long run. Would rather not lose my ID/credit card when I sit down for a break.
