    Swing it around.

Kuat bike racks have been among our favorites for years. They are easy to load up, sturdy, and secure, all of which are ideal characteristics. The one drawback, though, was the maneuverability. When it came to truck beds or hatchbacks, you can pivot them downward, but that only goes so far when you're hoping for a post-ride tailgate. With the Kuat Pivot Swing Away Extension, your tailgating problems are solved. This handy arm attaches with any 2-inch rack to securely hold your rack with up to 4 bikes. It also swings those bikes out of the way if you need access to gear in the back of your truck, or need to grab an amber ale to toss to your buddy while you enjoy your post-ride brews.

The Kuat Pivot Swing Away Extension is welded to be tough, holding up to 250lb when loaded, and it attaches to your 2-inch hitch receiver while accepting a 2-inch hitch in the back. It swings a full 90-degrees, allowing you to fully open your hatchback or drop down your tailgate for access to gear. A locking anti-rattle hitch pin ensures that the rack stays secure and doesn't give your bike too much of a shake on the ride to the trailhead. The added distance from the Pivot Swing Away Extension system offers a touch of extra room, an added bonus that enables those with rear-mounted spare tires to fit Kuat racks with fewer issues.

    • Swing your bikes out of the way for tailgate access
    • Opens a full 90-degrees to preserve access
    • Sturdy welded steel holds up to 250lb
    • Can carry a loaded bike rack with 4 bikes
    • Compatible with all 2-inch racks
    • Locking anti-rattle hitch pin stays quiet on the road

Kuat swing away for 2" receiver's

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Installed on 2017 Mazda CX5 into receiver. When installed per initial the bolt hung down to within 5" of touching ground on flat concrete driveway. The main support beam drops approx. 2" below receiver hitch height. I reversed the bolt so only the "head" head hangs down and the "nut" is on top, that provided 7" of clearance. Major flaw in design here for vehicle with limited clearance. Having gotten past that, the latch mechanism is simple to use, I would recommend a small cable on the safety pin to not lose the pin. The bolt that holds the stinger solid in receiver and is locked, is difficult to start. I had a thule previous and it was much easier to start in the threads. It sticks out slightly behind the vehicle, but nothing unexpected and the swing seems to work fine under load. I have a 1UPUSA 2-bike tray system I use it with. I would have given 4-stars if it wasn't designed so very low. Given it's inserted into a receiver and that almost all vehicles the receiver is under the bumper mechanism, some thought should have been given to creating it to be in line with the back bumper of the vehicle to avoid dragging in driveways, off-camber terrain, etc. It will not function on my friend BMW X5, we tried it and it had 2" of clearance. Granted it's a BMW and there special, but it simply wouldn't work on his vehicle. He also has the same 1UP USA and I was complaining, so we tried it. Hope this helps you make an informed decision.

    Camping made easy

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

On bike trips I typically sleep in the back of my truck. Problem is the bikes are back there as well. This guy changes that and leaves me not having to remove the bikes from the rack and lock to tree, etc...at night. Not gonna lie, it's pretty heavy. It's not a huge deal just a heads up on the product. That being said I am also pretty confident it will last a long time due to it's construction. Also dig the fact that it comes with a lock and keys.

    Game Changer

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

This is the new game changer when it comes to hitch bike racks. When you get into camp, simply swing your bikes out of the way and do all your usual camping with not having to unload and reload your bikes. Why more bike manufacturers haven't turned to this is beyond me. Definitely pick one up!

    The answer to your prayers

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

If you have a truck, suv or van ( I have a van) this is the device you've been waiting for. It lets your bike rack swing away so you can access your rear hatch/back doors/tailgate without taking off the bikes or the rack. Genius. Thanks Kuat !!!

    Unanswered Question

Is the pivot reversible? Due to a swing-away spare tire that swings to the passenger side, I need the pivot to swing to the driver side. I'm sure it can be flipped, but does it still work the same?
